Idea: Changing WvW from a week to a series!
sounds nice i guess but now after almost 2 years of wvw i would like a carrot to play again more then 1-2 hours of wvw….you know, a reward for winning these endless zerg fights, dont get me wrong , its nice everytime we win a fight a collect all the bags but…it´s still always the same , kind of bored of it..
Its a good idea and it has been suggested before. Nothing happened last time either…

7 matches in 7 days between the 3 servers?
I like this.
Only issue I see arising is this line (almost the same as current WvW):
“Server X has greater coverage than us and wins the day for free during SEA or EU, no effort required.”
But if they changed how scoring works, along with making it 7 matches in 7 days, it could work.
One example that might work would be the “points for capping instead of time held” theory.
PvP modes are the “endgame” in all MMOs.
Stop failing at PvE, and fix WvW/SPvP. Thank you.

Something similar was suggested before by ANet but with a twist. The suggestion was aimed to solve nightcapping. (can’t find the post as the Forum search is broken)
The week would also be divided into smaller sub-matches. Scores are summed up for the final result.
But instead of 1 day per sub-match, the sub-matches last 1 calendar week but play on certain hours of the day only.
For example
- Night zone: plays every day 00-08
- Morning zone: plays every day 06-12
- Afternoon zone: plays every day 12-18
- Evening zone: plays every day 18-00
When a zone ends the WvW state is persisted and next zone’s WvW state is loaded. Players in WvW are teleported to their current map’s spawn.
This does not address PPT gap morale drop, but it would prevent nightcappers creating “unfair” PPT gaps.

Add in a WvW reward track as well (similar to the PvP one) and we’re golden!

Essentially a variant of the “time slices” suggestion that has been put forward multiple times before. I fully agree that some version of this is hands down inevitable if you want to deal with time zone imbalances, and it’s something a.net should seriously look into.
We actually had this before, at launch as far as I remember. Not with a series but just 24h matchups so that the servers would get their appropriate rank faster without being stuck in onesided matchups for weeks.
It was quite fun imo. Of course a lot changed since then, but I think it would still be more interesting than 1 week matches. More variety and no everlasting “impregnable” t3 forts owned by the dominating server.
Also, after 1-2 days there’s usually too much supply available (at least for my taste) – too much siege and golems can be build without risking a shortage of supply. It’s much more fun managing and “destroying” supply when you now you/your enemy can’t just port to the next storage and refill.
For 24h matches to become the actual gamemode however, ANet would have to adjust upgrades (cost, speed, eventually gate/wall hp etc.) and probably seperate eotm / normal wvw supply “bag” of players. So I like the idea and would like to see 24h matchups come back in one way or the other, but I don’t think it will ever happen^^
I’m def up for some kind of a change.
The fortification upgrade times would have to be reduced or a complete revamp of the system would be needed. (which I, and many others, have submitted ideas for previously)
It has been suggested before.. kind of in time slots, but in the same effect.. a series. The match can still be a week long, just break it up into 3 time slots:
12-8
8-4
4-12
Winning 1 time slot gives you a point, winning 2 will win you the match. This way, those that have overwhelming coverage say in SEA or OCX time are not guaranteed to win.
If yo take a server who has decent to great coverage from say 8am to Midnight and can win those time slots, it won’t matter if they have absolutely dismal coverage from Midnight to 8am.
Another thing they could or I think they should do is take the bulk of PPT off of holding forts and institute a system where PPT is awarded through quests within WvW. Quests based on what you hold and what the enemy holds. Gw2 is generally based on random quests throughout the world, it only makes sense to have WvW style quests within WvW.
This would be one more nail on the coffin of defending. There would be near no point for escorting dolyaks or trying to upgrade a keep. People already whine about the fact that they do something for objective, go to sleep and everything is back to wood, but that I can accept. But hard resets every night (or morning, evening, noon, when ever the reset would be), no thanks.
BUT, if it was 3 days or something like that then it would be cool. Also I remember someone suggesting that there would be two matches per week. One during the weekend and another during the weekdays. That way we would have the “more competitive” weekend match up when more people had more time to play and then there would be “less competitive” weekday match up, when there is more night capping etc “unbalancing” the match up.
Hard to say how hard it would be to implement two different ladders for these, but it would be cool. Or maybe the weekday match up’s wouldn’t affect on the overall ranking of servers, I don’t know.

I like it, but I want to know what the Dev’s think!
lol I proposed this a year ago…

That’s an interesting idea. The empty captured maps would not automatically tick points for your server. Instead the dominant server would have lot of players questing instead of fighting in frontline. This gives the less populated servers better odds to fight back.
On the other hand this would be PvE content pulled into WvW. There is already plenty of PvE content in this game.
For balancing the matches I’d rather see more incentives for 2 the losing servers to focus on the leading server.
