I was wonder if Anet has though of implementing a communication system in game, like Vent/TS/Mumble, that would be provided by the GW2 sever. I saw WoW try and introduce the idea, but there was no need. There was basically a way to voice chat with people in-game with no 3rd party program. However, GW2 is very different and it seems like there may be a need/demand for such ideas.

BUT I feel this is a possible solution to any server worried about their voice communication being compromised.

Your thoughts?

Bad for people who play far away from the GW2 servers. If they use a local TS they’ll have good voice connections, but if they’d have to route their TS through the 300ms GW2 servers, too…? Not good.

Plus, BG would probably DDOS the GW2 servers at that point, which would also suck.

A few things. 1) It seems like it wouldn’t be worth it for GW2 to sink such an investment, when it seems like its only BG that constantly has this problem. 2) The fact it seems to keep happening to BG no matter what servers they’re against hints that it may be someone just trolling (maybe even in BG)
For Anet to do this they would have to sink a lot of investment time and money into this. Unless guilds paid money, it wouldn’t seem worth it…plus it would put their servers at risk for a DDOS. In the end, BG has to find a way to solve the problem on their end…

Lets not add more things for the servers to process. I don’t want more lag.

Also, only BG? Wat. It only started to hit BG when SoR dropped. They used to be the target of most of it.

Many modern games including several MMOs now have built in voice chat and IMO a modern MMO which is a social game should bake it in as well. ANet should have licensed the tech from another company and packaged it with the game. Map chat, team chat, party chat, etc should all have been included with the game day one. Similar to the current typing system players can opt out/in to any base channel.

The biggest argument against doing this is moderating the channels which I am guessing is the reason many companies avoid these systems. However, there are several good systems already in place to moderate voice chat that could be employed to counteract this issue.

Dragonbrand’s TS got hit with a fairly decent DDOS last night. It usually happens once a week on wednesdays and doesn’t last too long but Sunday’s lasted 10 minutes and effectively shut down the server during the time. I think the only counter to it would be to a counter-attack ddos against the servers whose players you think are perpetrating it.

It is a very suspicious DDOS too…
