I had an idea for a blueprint which is a wall blueprint. It can be useful for blocking choke points or back entrances from huge quick zerg rushes. Making more coordinated attacks more reliable and small defenses able to hold their ground a bit better. The trick to implementing them is balancing how much supply it would take to build, yet balancing the health bars to make it more of a deterrent then a barrier. Defending supply camps would be more reliable if the back entrance had wall to defend from a ninja attack coming around, but was slowed to break the wall giving time for a reaction. Just an idea!

I would like to see fragile ladders that you place at the edge of walls allowing people to climb up. Useable only on outer walls.

I thought ladders would be a good idea too, but against towers and things like that it would make it too easy. The only possible way they could work is if they were worth nothing, but had only a few hundred health. The problem with that though is then they would die too quickly to be of any use. Being able to circumvent destruction of the walls/doors would ruin the game. Otherwise you could have siege ladders that work like siege golems – they take a long time to build but have a lot of health – and you can push/carry them to the wall.

I would like to see more blueprints though. Having placeable walls would be a good idea I think – you could essentially use them to build tiny fortresses along supply lines and things like that. It would completely change the game – in fact it would completely change how zerging worked in the game (you could make small fortresses near castles/towers before you attack them).

The only problem I could see with it though is their overuse – if you have an army of players carrying them around and then just covering the maps in them. It would be a very easy way to troll. There would have to be limits on how many walls can be made and on where they can be placed – but that would then limit the tactics related to them which would mostly eliminate their usefulness.

I remember back in my DAoC days…. they did come out with a siege tower. But… they were non-movable structures that were built against a wall and only usable against keeps. In addition, I think the wall had to be destroyable. They took a large amount of resources to build, in addition to taking a long time to build. They were fairly easy to destroy, but had enough health where it took several people if you needed to take it out quickly. They weren’t cheap either (in DAoC, there was a crafting profession to make the good siege equipment). After a certain point during the construction process (a certain percentage of completion, iirc – any old DAoCers may have to help me remember), if the siege tower was destroyed, it dropped the health of that wall a certain percentage as sort of a consolation prize.

The whole idea of the siege tower was to distract the defenders with your main force by attacking one side of a keep while a small special ops group goes and sets up this tower where the defenders aren’t looking.

If you made them around the price of a siege golem and around the same supply I bet it wouldn’t be over as much. Also its health should only enough where a group of 5-10 would take around 10-15 seconds to kill but a small group of 2-3 a bit longer. Making zergs that normally just run through aoe and can rush players in open now have to stop and attack something before rushing. Also to make them easier to kill if it would be a problem, make then unable to be repaired like other siege. This way in time attrition will take the wall down.

Cannon blueprints would be pretty sweet. So would more types of battering rams, mobile catapults, etc… The possibilities are endless, really.

But as for the original idea… I agree. Constructing some sort of wall or shelter would be of immense help on the battlefield, and isn’t really off-base as far as medieval combat is concerned (which is what GW2 seems to take a lot of pointers from). A place to retreat and heal up while storming the castle would make sieges more fun, IMO.

Kite Bombers.

You float above the field, but are tethered to the ground. So you can’t fly over a wall or any other obstacle, but you gain height and droppable bombs. Used for clearing walls and behind walls.
