So I have three ideas. First is open servers up and give everyone one free transfer by sending them a mail and the transfer expires a week/month/whatever after the mail is opened. Leave servers open for no more than a month. After servers are done from being open give servers back their real population whether its full or others. This way everyone has a free transfer and someone who was not able to play the game or know at the time would at least have the free transfer even if the server he wanted was full(can’t expect to not be punished on something while being inactive whether its and christmas event or other things). This idea is more of less to “reset” the servers and sort of let the players decide in a way.
Second idea is instead of 4 tiers where the top 3 tiers are really more zerg/groups than solo-roam/15man-zerg and 4th tier sort of the oddball make 5 tiers. Do this by leaving the top 6 servers unlinked (if follow first idea might work better? just and idea after all) and linking the bottom 18 together to form 9 linked servers(3 tiers). This way theres more of a variety making the bottom 2 tiers(hopefully) more for “casual” not as serious palyers and less zergfest and requiring a zerg to do anything and more about ~15-25 man and solo/duo roaming and the top 3 tiers more about zerg/guild fights and stuff.
Third idea is about server identity and pairing. Give every server a little icon for example if you are on jade quary it says JQ somewhere on your character or if you are from Devonas Rest it says DR and so on, whenever someone clicks on your character and shows the bar with “eroden terrace gold raider”. Or have every server have a badge and give us that instead. If we do this Would also be a bit better instead of having the specific server name have it say blue/red invader or like EoTM frostreach/badlands/overgrowth or whatever name Anet comes up with. This way servers don’t lose their identity and no one is really “forced” to be called a dirty [enter server name here] invader.

TL;DR 1) [reset? servers] give everyone free x-fers, expires after x-amount of time once recieved for inactive players & open servers for x-amount of time then recalculate pop.

2)[5 tiers] make 5 tiers instead 4 to distinguish between zerg/blob/guild/more serious players and small guilds/~15-25man/solo-3man roaming/more casual less serious palyers.

3)Give servers a set name like blue/red/badlands/frostreach and/or every server has initials (jade quarry = JQ, Devonas Rest = DR, stormbluff isle = SBI/SI) or a bad to represent that server, somewhere in the bar at the top where it shows target info when clicked on.

P.S just and idea. I hope Anet reads this and brings them ideas they have not though of or helps at least a little. just was an idea. I have a bit of an idea but not really of how hard it would be to do this another idea for server identity would be to give every server a finisher anyways bye. thanks for reading <3

Just think about it… the majority of players will move up on the top servers, not spread out as much as some of us would like that to happen. What did you think happened in the first few months of the game.

Just think about it… the majority of players will move up on the top servers, not spread out as much as some of us would like that to happen. What did you think happened in the first few months of the game.

I mean you could obviously close a server or two like blackgate and maybe TC who don’t really need any more players at all. Majority moving up is sort of the idea in a way. Theres plenty of people in higher tiers who don’t like zerging and and won’t move just because they don’t wanna waste gold/money. the point is for bottom 2 tiers to not be so populated and have like a zerg or two at most at one given time and for top 3 tiers to be loaded as much as possible. Bringing the first year of gw2 with free x-fers is useless since most people didn’t really care about community as much. Right now people who want to move will move anyways. most people would go t2/t3 since t1 is a different ball game. at the end the last 2 or last tier will still be open and peopel who don’t enjoy top tiers can xfer there at a later time.

Yeah sorry that feels like the reverse to me these days, there was much more server loyalty back then, when players had just picked their server and were willing to stay for a while.

There have been guilds who have been on multiple servers to get “fights”, there have been massive migration of players moving so that they can “play together”, servers have died and tumbled down the ranks because of these events. And they were willing to pay to do it, imagine if they had a free chance at it with no restrictions. Then you had tournaments with free transfers that also screwed up populations because “winning”.

Let’s be real here, players play a huge part with the imbalance of the population starting day -1 in beta when alliances and entire communities choose a server to stack on, to just last month when multiple guilds moved to TC, and then multiple guilds moved off TC cause they hated them.

You really want to hand out a freebie transfer with no restrictions other than an expiry date?

I agree with 5 tiers, but basically T1 unlinked, T2-4 linked, T5 the old T8 unlinked.

Also I’m for new names but maybe as placing servers linked together under names of Gods or Dragons, HoD/EB = Grenth server for example, that way one server doesn’t feel like they lost their server to the host, but each can now feel like they’re playing together for a side of a god or dragon.

That doesn’t change anything.

The rational behavior is still for every player to transfer to the same server (or two servers if people want fights) in order to maximize rewards & probability of winning.

It’s like putting out a poll: Do you like loot and winning? Yes/No

Again the point is for the top 3 tiers to be as full as possible. yes some people/guilds will want to be on same server but theres no point leaving to another server if everyone you know is in your server already. your assuming everyone is going to transfer 100% which is wrong. Also you said people want fights but they all wanna join same server and stack it up to win easy which is a bit contradictive. lot of guild and players want to have fight people, and even certain people/guilds they don’t like. also unless they know absolutely everything not many people will transfer to another server unless its a zergish one to a smaller groups/roaming one and vice versa because no reason to xfer to another server that has x,y,z when your server also has x,y,z you looking for.

hate when i click reply without typing anything >.< anyways, i mean in the beggining there wasnt really that much loyalty around the time free transfers stopped was when loyalty definately starting being a thing which i also miss a lot. This idea though is more or less to leave it up to the palyers to decide. I just feel like everyone has their own taste and a lot of people won’t be using the free x-fer just because no point going from server A to B if they both have the same things. only reason to xfer would be if you were going from zergfest to smallman /roaming server or you hate your server for some reason which i think players would have xferred off already if they really cared. but you are right about there are players out tehre that sort of screw the system but i feel like if you really think about it, with a tweak or 2 the idea could improve wvw. not saying 100% work just improve. but its just an idea so yea there are flaws :/

I did not say people want fights.

I said that if they want loot and like winning, then the rational behavior is to stack a single server.

I said that if they also wanted blobfights on top of that, then the rational behavior is to stack such that two servers (total) have very large populations.

I do not think your proposal would make the top 3 tiers as full as possible. I think they would transfer the loosely-attached population from every server to an arranged and designated stack2win server or possibly two.
