Here is my idea of making WvW more challenging (and rewarding). Put an npc in the game that allows guilds to schedule sieges, like guilds from a server form big groups and sign up for a siege at a certain time, then defending guilds can sign up too, to defend their property. When the time comes, the siege begins and the attacking and defending armies that signed up get an event similar to how world boss guild missions work.

A set timer based on location and objective to conquer it. Players that signed up for an event get a priority queue, so they can bypass players on the queue that didn’t sign up for it. That works so players that are involved in it, will actually be able to play.

Here is an example:
Guilds A, B and C from Red sign up to take Stonemist on Saturday night.
Guilds D and E from Blue sign up too
Guilds F, G and H from Green sign up as well

Now it doesn’t matter which server controls Stonemist, but before the event timer is up, guilds will fight to take it, fight for supply nearby, weaken walls/siege, place enough siege, gather supplies etc, then once the event is up, it’s an all out brawl. The winning server takes the Keep and one of their guilds can claim it.

If no opposing guilds sign up then there is no event. Only if there are guilds on at least 2 servers the event will begin.

Why do this? To focus WvW on big guild vs guild events where the most organized and powerful guild will show it’s power. This will allow Arenanet to give WvW the rewards it deserves, without fear of night capping without opposition, farming kills at random spots, overly imbalanced populations and other factors that make WvW un-rewarding. Also, it will offer WvW with some more focused fights rather than the random blobbing that occurs often. It will give lower tier servers a chance at playing good fights, as some smaller teams could join from all 3 servers for a chance at rewards.

Sounds a little too ArchAge-y for me.

They did this in Aion too… It was awful.
Every fort battle was a zergfest, and the open world was empty between scheduled fights.

I can understand that scheduling sieges will make it more of a zergfest, however some way to promote large guild play and in a way make WvW a bit more balanced in terms of challenge would give Anet a way to add more rewards to WvW.

Think about it, WvW ranks don’t mean much, they are just a grind you can do by following a com tag and pew pew from 1200 away. Badges don’t mean much either because you get loads from outside WvW (APs), you get loads from easy achievements etc. Night capping, or in general capping while there is no opposition has the same benefits as capping an objective defended by entire guilds. It’s very hard to measure the quality of WvW content, so how are they supposed to give out good rewards?

My proposal is to make WvW easier to reward and less based on grind and/or population imbalances. As for the empty world between fights, you misunderstand. I’m saying WvW will be as it always is during the rest of the day. Guilds that schedule for a siege are not guaranteed to defend or attack because the ownership of the objective might change until the “scheduled” siege begins.

The idea is to make guilds an even more integral part of the WvW experience, and reward those that take the time to form good teams/builds, organize and promote teamwork among their members. It’s a way to actually reward them, without also rewarding the solo roamers who just follow a com tag.

That bold would make even gw2 player want to grind more….

1st April joke, when gw2 receives a “balance” update.
