If the AoE cap were removed...
And you can forget capping anything that is defended by >30 people because the aoe concentration would be so intense anyone walking through would insta die. So you wont be able anymore to go through a gate.
Aoe cap should stay the way it is, it is fine.

That was kind of the point, so people can actually defend something even when outnumbered. You know, defense? That thing people used to do before they figured out karma trains?
Honestly I love zergvszerg, but the fights last too long, and if both teams stack it’s not only laggy but also boring. The AoE limit is a band aid fix for bad servers is the only reason it’s even in place.
RIP my fair Engi and Ranger, you will be missed.
It is so far from fine.
I don’t think anyone is arguing that the AoE cap should be removed and Damage should be kept as-is. There should definitely be more balancing involved.
But it’s a joke now.
I don’t even use ground targetted AoE because the idea of my targets being randomly selected out of the blob just sounds
Really
kittening
Stupid.
I want to damage who I try to damage, if my skills don’t do that, they’re useless.

You realize there are a LOT of ways to get through the choke unscathed, right? Regardless, it shouldn’t be easy taking an objective from 30 people.
Even assuming that were ok, the trouble really is map design. It’s balanced around the AoE cap. There isn’t the room to maneuver in/around a tower/keep or even many areas of a map. Whilst a lack of AoE cap is a nice principle, giving smaller groups a reasonable chance to defend a heavy choke point, the map layout is such that nothing would ever get taken.
Also, with the state of leg specialist arrow carts, imagine one guy on that whilst 2-3 elementalists cast a meteor shower. Easy mode victory. Numbers shouldn’t be impossible to fight, but there should absolutely be better than reasonable odds of the larger force beating the smaller one. Larger doesn’t necessarily mean less skilled remember that.
I think people are starting to miss the point. That’s a lot of data to send to a lot of people simultaneously when we already are bumping into skill lag on occasion.

Putting restrictions on your players and your game isn’t a good way to substitute for poor hardware.
I imagine such a change wouldn`t go without reworking AoE abilities, even if just slightly. It`s really a major one, so it would be unwise to recklessly remove the cap straight on.
I totally approve of it though.

Right here.
They knew the kind of game they were releasing and they still either cheaped out on hardware or cheaped out on optimization of that hardware/code.
Adequate servers should have been bought right off the bat, what was the point of stress tests during beta weekends if they still can’t handle the traffic of a game that seems to be dying?
anyone remember the epic defence fests in woe in ragnarok-online? that was fun. would love to see this kind of aoe defence in gw2 <3

I remember a lot about Ragnarok Online, I played it for years.
But I also remember a lot of the meta for War of Emperium being “Who has the bigger precast” and that was pretty much it. Stand inside a castle entrance and spam AoE’s on the portal the entire time so anyone that tried to invade would just die instantly.
1. There’s really nosuch thing as removing the AoE cap. All games I’m aware of have had some caps on AoE effects. When people say remove it they really mean increase it, or they’re just unaware of this fact.
2. Yes it would require a review of every single ability in the game. That is obvious and people claiming otherwise are just foolish.
3. Yes, defense of structures is a concern. Some players claim they want to be able to do unorganized mindless camping defenses that slow the game to a crawl or quagmire….but reality is the game needs to favor the attackers to keep things moving and players being rewarded with treats.
Short version is, anybody who thinks this change is easy or should be rushed is talkin’ crazy talk. Personally, I think a more achievable goal that would help would be to start by raising the cap of AE/PBAE effects from 5 to 10. They could maybe even start smaller and start with buffs and heals since these seem especially weak in a zerg?
Will never happen .Atm the servers can’t handle 100 vs 100 with (100×5)x2 targets info and server gets several seconds skill delay.People shold have realized by now that increasing the target cap to literally 20x times more(100×100)x2 without even considering taht will be multiplied but at least 100 for each condition, boon and so on will be an impossible task for this game.We should consider ourselves lucky if they ever get to fix the skill lag in 5 targets cap per player as it is and that’s being optimistic.
Also there were many other mmos out there that had massive pvp in wich you could only lock and damage one target at the time and still were very succesfull amongst pvp players.Take the classic lineage 2 sieges for example.
I will never understand the wish of some people to want to spam 1 skill and kill 200 players at once .Will that make you feel more pro or whatever?5 targets aoe cap is great as it is and with this limit a group of 5 very good players can theoreticaly still take down one of 25 very bad ones so imo the scalling is really good enough for those who really wanna prove a point about themselves in some virtual pixels war but it actually forces you to work for it instead of having 5 players hide behind a rock, pop inside a 100 man group with invulnerability on and instantly killing anyone.Far to stupid concept, especially ina game that has no charracter collisionwhatsoever.

Just imagine. Instead of seiging up with arrow carts you seige up with eles staff using meteor storms. 0.0
