Im so bored of scouting at my towers
i never do it its just boring and useless – i dont care for the towers and i dont care when people think its important and we have to do it^^
seriously – worsed game mechanic ever
would i be forced to sit in a tower for 15 min i would just go on other screen and watch tv
I do find it terribly boring. And when a commander doesn’t come or acts surprised even thought I’ve been telling him for a few minutes that they were coming → put rams → door down → lord down, I stop doing it for the remaining time he’s the commander.
Unfortunately, the past 4 weeks have not needed any kind of real defense from our part, so our players/commanders are becoming less caring when it comes to defense.
But while it’s not rewarding most of the time, when an enemy zerg comes in and you and someone else are on a superior ACs, bags fill up nicely.
I only baby sit a tower until it has reinforced doors, because I’m running the yaks. After that I scout around the map.
The answer is simple: just ignore the boring stuff and do whatever is fun to you. Computer games are made to have fun. Thats why they are called: games
I see so many scouts in towers and players pushing doliaks while roaming. Most of them are free bags in the wild. It’s so sad. Your skill will never increase as long as you shoot your arrrow card from behind a wall.
Hopefully Anet once introduce climb wall skills so roamers can relieve those sad souls.
DAoC had a really great mechanic where the guild that claimed a keep or tower would get messages in guild chat when a guard near their tower was killed. The message looked like “a guard from your tower was killed with 25 enemies in the area” and showed up in guild chat even if you were in a PVE zone.
Something like that in GW2 would be a great improvement and would alleviate the need for so many static scouts (active scouts following enemy forces would still be very useful though). and while they’re at it, maybe they could add the claiming guild’s tag after the guards/lord’s name so we can see who has a keep claimed in game, instead of having to use an external site!

Its sad when old games have better gameplay concepts then the new ones, DAoC, RO(WoE)…
I, personally enjoy sieging, upgrading, and watching keeps/towers/camps. It’s something my guild kind of specializes in on certain nights. When we do it though we are on our servers TS and using channel commander to talk with our larger groups when we need help from them and it’s incredibly effective. I actually find after about 30 mins of running Yaks and upgrading I start attracting a lot of roamers trying to cut off our supply lines and I get a lot of fights. Plus I find it thrilling holding off a force 4-10x my size until our large force shows up and absolutely crushes them from behind.
That’s not to say sometimes I don’t dislike it though, and when we want a change we’ll just join up with the guild running the zerg buster force in the other TS channel. It’s really about keeping things fresh I think. Rotating out your tower/keep/camp teams so they don’t burn out, because if you care about PPT at all (which some people don’t, and that’s OK if it’s not your thing) is absolutely necessary.
It’s all about what you enjoy I guess, and make sure to do what you enjoy, that’s the pointof gaming after all. Maybe if your server doesn’t quite do it the way you enjoy check out a couple other servers and see if their play style fits your better.

This would be an excellent feature to add to GW2. It is logical, removes some of the most unrewarding and boring play in WvW and creates a whole new set of strategies to work with.
“Youre lips are movin and youre complaining about something thats wingeing.”
Same with escorting dolyaks. ANet’s dev team for WvW just does not like defensive tactics & abilities. I can’t repeat that often enough – look at our WvW abilities: Lots of siege related things that makes those stronger and hardly anything that makes defending almost useless (just look at the reward you get for taking a tower or killing a dolly compared to defending a tower & speeding up/defending a caravan.
Still keeps a volume of Kurzick poems ;)
cause defending you can do afk – not easy to reward this^^
SOR doesn’t play for PPT, so don’t need to bother to scout, refresh siege or escort yaks. The game rewards you mostly for offense, most people prefer to just fight.
In the end play the game for fun in your own way.
North Keep: One of the village residents will now flee if their home is destroyed.

I have a lot of fun with it.
Sieging up a tower and being able to hold it with 2-3 people versus 30-40 is a blast.
Holding on to your servers tier 2 and tier 3 towers is important.
There’s always stuff to do. Refreshing the siege, upgrading, dolyak escort, scouting, retaking sentries and supply camps with under 5 minutes until tick. Anyone who just sits in a tower isn’t doing it right.
Sure it doesn’t net the same rewards as following the Zerg around, but it’s fun in its own way for people who like that playstyle.
I’m lucky enough on SBI to have lots of people who enjoy that playstyle to play with.
It’s good to kick back and relax a bit and enjoy what MMO’s really have to offer, people and community.
I find when I run with the large groups I rarely have time to chat and goof around.

I seriously think this, all of what you just said is very much yes! It would have my vote for sure. I don’t mind putting up and refreshing siege. It is the standing around doing nothing. This fixes that and its an awesome thought. Thanks for sharing.

Ive spent time on alot of servers in NA and I am on an EU server atm. I have only ever enjoyed scouting whilst I was on Blackgate. Its hard to explain why, but whilst I was there I felt I was actually contributing to something. Whilst it never felt like my input was frequently not received on other servers. On the EU server I am currently on, SFR, its even much worse than most of the NA servers. I outright won’t scout whilst I am here. There is no point. The commanders are fairly bad and they do not organize anything outside of fights. NA servers make them look pretty bad in terms of organization. Id be quite interested in seeing leagues combine EU and NA servers for a gold league because I honestly think NA would wreck EU. The only thing that might keep EU servers in the fight is the fact that they have some of the stronger guilds in the game. But I don’t think that would hold against the organization I have seen from NA servers.
Nobody care about PPT so why the kitten anybody would sit in tower and be bored?

It helps out the team is the reason I do it, but guys……I’m so tired of playing watch for the red to come across the horizon so I can tell the commander/guild. Also…. no rewards for doing an important job. Whats up with that? We all take turns watching our towers and keeps but seriously….. its SO BORING.
Anyone share my opinion? Disagree? Any ideas on improving the situation? let me know and GLHF
Should be no scouts at towers, should only be active scouts following and looking for the enemy out in the wild.
