Q:
Incentive to WvW
So I’ve been a long time mmo player of many past mmo games, and played gw2 since launch.
WvW to me was fun at one point in the game, but past couple years its been….meh…. not really all that fun as it used to be.
I used to play a mmo called DAoC (Dark Age of Camelot) back in the day, and thought of Darkness falls.
Darkness Falls is a Daemonic zone in the game that players could enter and get more loot than in the normal world, buy items from, and can raid in as well. However the only players that could enter are the ones on the winning side in WvW. (DAoC it was called RvR)
There are more details a bout it here in the link

It would be nice to have something like this in GW2, as it gives more incentive
to go WvW.Let me know what you guys think a bout something similar to this happening in GW2
=)
This is sort of like offering rewards from the seasonal tournaments, in that it caused a lot of server stacking and many players left the game over it. I do not think they would do this for the same reasons they stopped the tournaments. They do not want that to happen again.
WvW / PVP ONLY
Honestly, I’m not sure what is so ground breaking about the beta. It’s wvw, the same wvw for 4 years now. They really need to go Lebron James 4th quarter mode because I think bringing back the DBL is just going to drive more of us out of gw2 in general.
To hear they are working on an expansion is kinda a joke being they left HoT unfinished. Not trusting of these guys.
Something working more or less like http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Favor_of_the_Gods ?
Even if I’m supposing it’d be for the winning world of each matchup, it still has a major flaw : if that elite zone dropping a lot is (roughly) a PvE zone, then one may not be able to run it with friends, because PvE doesn’t work with worlds anymore. :-/

This. WvW players generally fear the game mode becoming too rewarding, so as not to encourage the section of the PvE community who cares only about g/hour to stack some servers, farm the rewards and ruin it for the rest of us. Y’know, the kinds of people who throw a tantrum in map chat whenever a commander in EotM fights instead of running away to capture a tower. WvW would become even more of a joke than that map is.
It’s a nice idea in theory, but you can’t trust the community with it.
At this stage, with all the changes anet has and is continuing to make, if you still need more of an incentive then WvW just isn’t for you.
If I’m not mistaken Anet basically said no to locking access to content behind winning matches. Even in GW1 they changed Favor of the Gods from territory based to globally based.
In my opinion this would be a bad idea.
The incentive to play WvW should be in WvW itself and not in other content.
And as lil devils x said this would also increase imbalances between server populations.

There is truth in that, WvW has turned, strictly in a competition a sort of group PvP.
Anybody else, that does not think, with this group-think, is very much unwelcome.
In my view, there is no way to change this driving force and we have to accept that WvW has taken an elitist turn and is headed in that direction. Time will say if that survives with dwindling population and multi-server grouping.
We all know about the route, that will be taken, first 2 servers, link and when that fails, 3 servers link and when that fails 4 servers link and so on and no end in sight about the queues that this creates. Eventually, even the die-hard crowd starts dropping out and that becomes the slow death.
In my day we put in 12 hour days with NO reward, and we LIKED it dag nabbit!

Back in my day, we paid gold to play WvW and were thankful for the opportunity!

The incentive? Lamentation. Driving the hordes before you. Plus, we all know that servers like BG keep their Sylvari under grow lights in their Garrison. Its next to the bacon.

We the inquest are curious as to how plant matter has achieved sentience. Do not disrupt our ongoing research.

nodding I can understand and appreciate this sentiment. Sadly, if the laboratory continues to be placed in such an unfortunate local as behind the Lord’s commode, we will have to find a better way to compromise.
