Infamy, not honor
It would be awesome, if the game could understand, when some1 acts “honorable” by for example defending a tower or a camp against superior force or scouting for your server and reward that person with “true” badges of honor and make some super mega awesome skins available only with those badges… But I guess that will stay a dream, even if ANet wanted that too.

Funnily enough there are some countries in the world that gives out Medals of Honor for sitting in a plane bombing children and stuff like that. So I don’t really see the issue here.
Honor is clearly in the eye of the beholder.

Yeah badges of honor are kind of ironic when you go chase to 1v1 someone, and they run off only to come back a bit later with a bunch of people just to take you out. Would be funny if they were only awarded if you win even or outnumbered battles.

I think that would encourage better even battles and less mindless zerging. You only get badges if you fight honorably.
The question though is, how could it be achieved, that the game realizes that you fought honorably. And what is honorable fighting anyway?

so if you successfully defend your keep from an equal size force… you would’nt get honor? since you used siege against them you have the advantage… so you wont get given badges?

You would get infamy, with the opposing server, obviously. The good thing about infamy is, it can cover both heroic actions and despicable actions, because a hero on your server would be very infamous on the other servers.
To be clear, I didn’t ask to introduce two kinds of badges, that can’t be done without a human judge. Just a rename of the current badges, they can be distributed then just like now, no change, but without the ironic aftertaste.
Right now calling them ‘badges of honor’ is as meaningful as calling them ‘badges of the rainbow unicorn’s second winter’ :P
You have to remember, in the eyes of the NPCs in Tyria the people we’re fighting in WvW aren’t “other players.” Instead, they are a nonspecific “evil” that is attacking our realm.
Every kill you get in the Mists is an honorable defense of your world – and failing to kill anyone means you haven’t stopped evil at all.
You wouldn’t get infamy as they don’t know who you are still
If anything they should be ‘Badges of I Damaged Someone’ or ‘Badges of Herpade|rp*’ for short…

Don’t care what they call it but I wish these things banked like karma or laurels. Having to pile up rows of these things in mules and bank slots is pretty crappy. I would start throwing them away but I know as soon as that starts happening they will roll out something to make them more useful.
