Is this a new (at least new to me) trick that people have discovered? I was in a 1v1 with a Mesmer and went into the downed state. Before I could press 1 I was stomped. No animation, no cast time, just stomped. I figured it might be a fluke, so I dismissed it. A short while later I was against a Thief and the exact same thing happened. I figured he would do the basic stealth stomp which is annoying, but as a Necro I can shroudstomp so I can’t complain about that. Instead I was stomped pretty much as soon as I entered the Downed state.

This instastomping makes it where you have zero chance of recovery and trying to turn the tables. Since Friday I have had this happen on 5 different ocassions. Just curious if anyone has come across this.

Both of these classes have quickness buffs, where they can finish you within (pretty much) half a second…

quickness halves the time to do anything, so its a 1.5second stomp instead of 3. if you cast your interrupt as soon as you go down, you wont get quickness stomped.

Well, I’m used to what I always considered a Quickstomp where I have to Fear as soon as I get my abilities. Pretty rough as a Necro since our Fear is 1.25s cast for a 2s Fear.

This is different though. I was stomped as soon as I came out of the Downed State transition screen. Literally not a chance to press a button because I was dead as they appeared.

If this is simply stacking Quickness somehow I need to really look into that more.

Not sure about stacking, but I’ve seen instant stomps done by classes that have quickness skills.

Having said that I wouldn’t be surprised if that information is handled client side………

A warrior, a guardian, and an elementalist walk into an open field…
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”

regardless of what you saw, you go temporarily invulnerable as you are downed, which is the transition screen as you described, and the fastest stomp is 1.5s with quickness. you probably lagged, or have high ping. if you press your 1.25s cast time fear as soon as you can, that gives you a 0.25s window to interrupt, which is negated if you have over 250 ping.

My ping is almost always sub 100 and I don’t remember dying very often that night. I usually have under a 10s repair bill during an 8hr period.

I believe your times wads, but these just didn’t seem right.

Not dying, but downing.

You get down penalties for dying too quick in repetition, and you can actually die almost instantly.

Hell, sometimes you don’t even notice you’ve downed and rally back really quickly, it happens that fast when you’re in a zerg.

Are you sure it really was a 1v1? Could there have been another player there, hostile to the enemy Mesmer, that you didn’t see? Perhaps a perma-invis thief or the like?

Plenty of times when trying to avoid interrupts on my stomps (as a Mesmer), I will start my stomp animation on a downed enemy who I know cannot interrupt me, then I will Blink mid-stomp onto an enemy I know has his interrupt ready… which oftentimes that other person doesn’t even see coming… and thus it may appear as some sort of instant stomp (as I am only channelling my stomp for like 0.25 seconds or less over top of the guy I am actually intending to stomp).

This happened to me yesterday when I was fighting either a Guardian or Warrior. I don’t know which, because it happened so fast. One moment, I’m fighting Krait with a random person from my world, next moment, I’m dead and a dude with a broadsword is killing everything.

I thought it was a bug, so it’s good to know that other people are experiencing this.

It still sucks, though.

It’s mostly common with a warrior’s knockdown, great sword hundred blades + frenzy. They’re always in melee range to take advantage of the quickness stomp.

I’ve had it happens a few times to me as well; it kinda negates the entire downed state – which one might be for or against, but seeing as it is there – chances are it’s an effect the devs are not really aware of.

But (for me anyway) the interrupt is on CD for a couple seconds when you go down

I know I have used my Quickening Zypher on my Ranger to speed this up but I will admit I have been instant finished a few times. I’m talking no cast time but they just walk up and BAM insta-cast finished. It’s rare but it has happened.

These were most definitely 1v1’s and the person who stomped me was the one I was fighting. During those fights I had not been downed multiple times (or recently) to my knowledge. I prefer to wander about and look for single fights by catching scouts or stragglers and avoid being part of the zerg. Usually I only join the zerg if it’s pushing a very important objective overall.

The real question is whether you were actually finished with the fancy animation and all, or someone just dropped a quick >10K damage combo on you in downed state. Both professions noted can push out some major burst numbers.

there is currently a glitch that happens after the server lags form large scale fights that will give a passive quickness to players and if they add this to their own quickness everything is instant i know i had this a few times last week befor sandy when there were actualy alot of players form all 3 servers in wv3 and i could dump my entire initiative pool instantly on anything for a few min after server lag

thats not giving you quickness, thats your graphics catching up to the animations that happened during the lag.

no wads it gave me passive quickness i could spam #1 autoattack as a thief and attack so fast my hadn were a blur adn anyone that ran past me while i did this whiel stealthed would die almost instantly so i was like some kind of unstoppable monster forr a few min
could also take out short bow and spam #1 into a group of players and watch the shots ricashey everywhere clouding my screen with numbers and if i proced quickness and stomped it was instant or even without quickness it was as if i had quickness and outside of some sounds not playing there was nothing else wrong with the game

I’ve seen a quickness stomp, and I know the effects of quickness seeing as I play mes. I’ve also seen an insta-stomp. The first you can at least see a hyperactive animation. The second will happen instantaneously, you wont even see the stomp “occur” except for the stomper having stomped at the end of it. I’ve no idea how/why it happens but there is definitely a difference. Something is up.

they are stealthed as they start the stomp, and stealth wears off as it finishes, therefore you only see the finish.

as for the server lag quickness thing, i’ve never seen it, has someoen fraps it yet somewhere? i’d be curious to see it.

Often i find player that use quick stomp but this isn’t a problem, if u are fast enough u can use you skill to teleport/interrupt so just be fast.

The Ranger’s “Lick Wounds” ability makes me laugh. Not only does it suck, but really? A wild animal licking your wounds heals you? If anything it would kill you even faster.

Any yeah, in pvp the only real chance you have is a lucky Rally.

Fully agree here.
A fellow guildie and I we’re both WTF stomped the other night by a solo thief not messmer, and before you ask yes we are both level 80 with full exotics as well.
One second we was standing ready to take on a camp the next we are both dead on the floor.
TBH I personal feel that someone has found a way of dare I say this hacking the system.
And before anyone says sore loser I don’t mind dying just means the other person was better than me at the time, but there is dying and WTF dying there is the difference.

Must be an odd glitch. Only happened to me once, I was downed and used my downed Mesmer decoy escape. The guy stomping me continued his animation (I could still see him from my new possition) and when he landed it still killed me. Glitch or lag on my part I guess…

Well it’s still going on only just come out of WvW after been Insta Stompped 8 times on the bounce, once twice I can handle but 8 times nah there is something def not right.

This is a real thing. Don’t have much info on it, but I have been on the recieving end. And I play a theif so I know how fast a stomp can be with haste. This is not a haste stomp. It almost feels like an attack that one hits you while downed but I never see the huge damage in log.

I know EXACTLY what the OP is talking about as I have had it happen more than a few times myself. Granted, getting insta-stomped is quite rare.

I will define instant-stomp as getting stomped by a player (jump-thrust animation plays) before your downed action bar appears. It’s like a double quickness buff, but we know quickness stacks only in duration.

It happens, it sucks. I don’t know if people are hacking (including latency manipulation i.e. lag hacking) or the server is lagging. One thing I can be certain is that my ping is VERY low at all times and I have a solid, stable connection to my ISP.
