Some interesting developments this weekend in server scores/strength in NA. Could this be indicitive of some popultion shifts? Are we about to get greater match variety than we’ve had in awhile, maybe ever?

DB is destroying YB and CD, the same two servers that resulted in a very close match last week – with CD winning. This is after rumors of an exodus of DB NA guilds. And its not just their SEA, they won reset.

GoM, the 13th rank server, beat both SBI and IoJ, 9th and 11th respectively, on reset. And SBI and DB (rank 7th) were pretty even a couple of weeks ago on reset.

DR, rank 15th, is destroying HoD and BP, 12th and 14th respectively.

Could the middle of the NA bracket be getting interesting?

I think the ranks are simply still shifting towards where they are actually meant to be based on the population shifts that occurred during and after the Season 2 tournament. The rating system that Anet uses seems to take months to properly adjust the rankings, especially when you consider that the same three servers can fight each other for two or three months with no change in which server places 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Matches are still pretty lopsided for the most part, and the rankings are still trying to settle after Season 2 because of ridiculous population shifting that Anet encouraged. I don’t think we’re about to get greater match variety by any means. A couple servers will rise and fall in the mid tiers, but like I said, that’s more due in part to Anet’s lasting influence rather than the players (unfortunately).

I still want to know why SBI si 9th, and YB is 8th, giving the fact that YB has only beaten SBI once since the season was over (and that was when we were paired with DB). In a match without the 7th server getting in the way, SBI beat YB. The glicko system is crap.

With that being said, it is interesting seeing how the T3-T5 have been changing since the season ended. CD did great last week, but they are probably burnt out after working that hard to win last week. DR is destroying Hod and BP. I wonder if HoD lost more people.

GoM did great at reset, but once they logged off, that was it for them. IoJ picked them clean, and then SBI took advantage of them as well. GoM doesn’t have the OCX/SEA for this match, but they are great fighters and I wish I could play more this week (kitten school), because it was a fun Friday night / Saturday morning.

NSP got beat by DH last week, but came out swinging hard in their match. Wonder if they can hold on and win this week. At this rate, season 3 is going to be interesting in silver and bronze (as long as we don’t get another free transfer fiasco again).

Probably, because 3-sided matches and coverage are shaky things, it depends strongly on who has best coverage when, and if a server has undisputed coverage or not.

Simple example
Server A is strong strong during 8h of the night and strong in 8h of the late afternoon/evening
Server B is strong during 8h of the day and strong in 8h of the late afternoon/evening

Who wins?

If there are just A and B, B wins, as it starts the shared strong time with fully upgraded map domination and by that get’s more points from prime than A.

Does a third server influence this?

If C is strong only in prime, there is no change, but if C is strong in the night B wins more clearly and if C is strong during the day, A wins, as B day domination is no longer given.

Ceterum censeo SFR esse delendam!

Coverage etc, is not the same as the glicko formula.

Hell, when SoR had their exodus, and couldn’t compete for months, they were slowly…slowly dropping.
