Invisibility in WvW is out of control.
With regards to Mesmer, Nothing has changed since launch. Mesmer has the same amount of stealth skills now as it did then so I am not sure why your saying it’s worse than ever.
Lol. It has been needed and needed ever since launch. Its because mesmers pu build got buffed so you see more of those now.

The buff played a part, yes, but I think you’ll find it was the meta that changed. With the insane pressure warriors and the like can apply now, coupled with the insane (hard for mesmers to deal with otherwise) condition meta in play, heavy stealth use is a mesmers means to survive, and thus remain in this game.
Heavy stealth PU Mesmer > Non heavy stealth PU Mesmer. It’s as simple as that.
You want to see a decline in stealth use for mesmers? Tell Anet to bring a more well rounded Mesmer into the meta they made.

I wasn’t saying it was bad, I was just saying that that was the reason behind his complaint. But the fact that he uses “thieves” in his OP, is totally wrong. In fact I’m sure there are way less thieves than there used to be because of all the stealth and overall nerfs they have had. What he should be saying is solely “mesmers”. Again, nothing wrong with it in my eyes. It’s a L2P issue.
L2p argument……
show me how to kill a thief…surviving them is a thing…Killing them is another.
But i bet that being immortal is balanced…
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
Idk I have been playing condi warrior lately and eating thieves alive.
not just making them run, killing them.

Not surprising condi war is really strong atm. High condi dmg, great survivability, several channeling abilities that will hit a thief after he stealths(via lb) and some nice immobilize stacking. Also condi war do decent direct dmg compared to other condi specs.

I’ll be curious to see how well these Thieves play in your video. It really doesn’t take much at all to make Thief effective in a 1v1 environment, but even so people seem to screw it up for no reason. In an XvX, I’ve annihilated many a Thief who engaged on someone else.
It isn’t even just the stealth, it’s the blind, too for Thieves. And PU Mesmers always coming back with Aegis is annoying beyond measure.
But even so, I’d be fine with it if stealth had some sort of counter-play aspect to it that wasn’t “swing randomly and pray for the best, with your only reward being a lucky hit that provides minimal feedback and no additional reward”. Or doing any attack, even if it misses because you’re out of range, pulled you from stealth instead of just running behind someone and spamming 1 until it lands. Anything, really.
I’d take anything to make it so I respect the Thief class even a little bit. As of now, I don’t. I was shadow refuged by an allied Thief while 5 people were hitting me, and I escaped so incredibly easily that I almost ran back in to engage them again knowing I’d probably die.

only way to kill a perma-noob thief is to actually fight back when they are visible. they are squishy with low health pools so enough pressure will make them retreat. also, if you’re a ranged class, thieves are most vulnerable between pistol 5 and heartseeker.
As i know WvW is about conquering castles, towers . . . for your server.
Why the !@#$% are you crying for a mesmer or a thief that you can not kill?

No kidding. I tried fighting a PU Mesmer on my zerker ranger. Barely got him down to 50% HP before i died. Switched to Condition/Trapper and the very same mesmer (remember the guild tag and armor he wore) melted instantly. Stealth only prolonged his agony.
But yeah, Mesmers, need stealth. However stealth needs to dispell on miss/block/invuln attacks and stack a maximum of twice. Doing that would kill permastealth, yet allow for good duration (think a thief would get a maximum of 12 seconds or so at best. Which is not bad.

They’re most vulnerable between Pistol 5, which blinds you at 900 range, and Heartseeker, which stealths them. So in that time, they’re vulnerable for me to shake the blind somehow, then CC them before they disappear.
I haven’t really been able to do it, personally. Dodging in .5 seconds to an arm raising a gun isn’t a skill I’ve mastered yet in the heat of a fight, and I haven’t yet learned to reliably guess when they’re going to be doing it.
@Solecito: I’m glad you’re playing the PPT game with no thought to small-scale class balance, but some of us enjoy the roaming/personal encounters. Is there a reason we can’t discuss why it doesn’t feel like a fun mechanic for us? Would taking steps to fix it ruin your PPT experience? If not, why do you care so much?

You know man, just take a look about farming trains.
You cant can’t take a thief you can’t get the lootbag QQ
The short bow support thief is better IMO anyway. I love support thieves. I run a might stacking build anyway, so its really nice to have a support thief with a short bow on hand to help me blast wells. Stealth thieves aren’t hard to deal with IMO. Especially if you are a guardian and can just pop “Renewed Focus” right before they backstab with all the might they acquired from stealthing. I run a hammer/staff build so I like to just AoE the kitten out of their shadow refuge. By the way, thats how you handle a stealth thief. Figured I should state that considering everyone else is just gonna scream “L2P or learn to play”. So, just to recap. If you want to kill a stealth thief,
*for the love of kittens use sharpening stones and nourishment(WvW players)
*AoE their shadow refuge,
*Try and have some way to give yourself the “retaliation boon” or them the “confusion condition” somewhat regularly if it is at all possible for you’re class,
*and use your immobilizations.
I do all four and I see a lot of success against thieves. Keep in mind that the more skilled thieves will wait out your boons.
Killing them is quite easy with my build. Little bit of careful dodging on the predictable backstabs and CnD’s and you can outplay them all day. Sooner or later they’ll have run out of options and gone into Shadow Refuge for a fight reset. Enjoy the satisfaction that comes with using Flamethrower’s Air Blast to knock them straight back out again. They now have revealed debuff, their get-out-of-jail free abilities are on CD, and they probably have low health. Headless chicken, effectively.
I reckon about 70-80% of the 1v1 encounters I have with a thief result on them dying. I’m far more likely to have trouble with those cheap greatsword/sword+shield run-spec warrior builds that can zoom across the map effortlessly.
