Is AoE really meant to be the godmode of keep attacking?
Arrow carts on the wall? No problem – just firestorm them.
Defenders repairing the door? No problem – just firestorm the door and it will damage everything inside too.I don’t think this is reasonable. Investments should reflect each other. If there’s a fort full of supplies, why shouldn’t defenders be able to spend them on repairs? If defenders have spent money on defensive siege, why should it be killed by simple AoE damage? Defending targets is already boring as heck, but it should be just as valid tactic as zerging.
I agree with the AoE, or catapults, through doors and wouldn’t mind seeing that changed.
AoE on the walls hitting arrow cart, do a better job of placing the arrow cart. There is no reason they need to be that close to the edge.
1. Place your artillery in less vulnerable spots. That, and try to prevent ranged attackers from getting too cozy near the walls.
2. Want to repair the wall? Drive the enemy off the other side.

I think you guys both missed his point.
They can’t stop AoE from going through the gate right now, but repair range should be increased slightly. There are some tricks you can do to Repair while under pressure. Experiment with your Profession!
Honestly, I think this issue could be fixed if they allowed certain utility skills defense against AOE damage. I play a Guardian, and we have defensive utilities such as Sanctuary and Wall of Reflection. In my opinion, these skills should be effective against AOE attacks like Meteor Storm. This would allow us to protect siege equipment without kittening elementalist attack skills.
Agree with Eisenhart. I’m a AOE elementilist and i drop poorly placed seige np. So when i place my siege i consider that, and place it wisely. Also i keep the ranged from getting to close. The combination of those two things, with a superior arrow cart and i’ve had np keep the AOE’ers off the walls.
siege that you place yourself is one thing but the fact that cannons and Oil pots are almost completely useless is what bugs me, you spend all that supply and money to build up cannons and mortars and they get killed so kitten easily
I wish you could also pay for like a shell casing that goes around the cannons and oil pots that your character can hide it and take no damage from enemies AOE or not.
The cannons and oil still take damage and die like normal but at least they can actually be used by defenders….
I’m an Ele, and I have found Arrow carts and such I can’t hit, as well as I’ve found out places to place them where no one can hit.
All it takes for any siege you place is a bit of thought.
As for cannons and Oil, I can understand those, since you as a player can’t choose the placement of those.
For siege you place, think before dropping it. Don’t come onto the forums and complain about AOE’s destroying it. They already nerfed retaliation to not work, what else needs to be done?
I mean as it i,s there are spots siege can be placed, which can not be hit, even by ballistas, and honestly if siege can be placed by defenders, it should be able to be destroyed by attackers.

Compared to pvp, it’s remarkably less strategic of fighting style in general, even tho it’s the same game. AoE at 1200 range is so much of the fight.
It’s the same issue for attackers, too.
Siege has to be destroyable by attackers and all professions have a trick or two to repair the gate. The most powerful one is AoE quickness from the Mesmer.

Actually I play an Elementalist too, and on most structures AoE can hit anything, especially Elementalists with Blasting Staff (Longbow Rangers can also hit everything). Only a few very specific locations have areas safe from infantry. This is not conjecture, it’s simple fact. The standard size of a wall is too small to keep it safe from AoE. Only the wider walls of some keep gates are big enough to protect them. Some examples are: The NE gate of Dreaming/Dreadfall/Ascension Bay keep, or the North gate of Etheron/Shadaran/Askalion Hills keep; the south gate is also good because of its high cliffs.
Any “standard” structure has no place to keep an Arrow Cart safe from harm from infantry. Compare the difference between Sunnhill tower and Cliffside.
