Is EoTM a dead gamemode?
i tried leveling up my characters too on WvW not EoTM, the commander told me to switch to my lvl 80 because im a full signet upleveled rallybot?
try leveling up in pvp till 80, maybe it can help you solve the one shot problems in WvW
Gate of Madness
EoTM is were the servers go when all hope is gone and all the dreams are broken
wvw and eotm are on the downward spiral and anet are doing little to help. Can we get some guys to stay on top of this gamemode?
Back 2 years ago or so edge had common 50+ man balls deep zergs rolling on each sides, these days not so much.
Eotm is not very balanced; the three sides (Badlands, Frostreach + Overgrowth) consists of multiple servers regarding what place they are currently in, in WvW.
Example: if you are 2nd place (blue) for the week then every other server that is blue will be Frostreach. You’re going to get all kinds of different players from those respective servers for that side, usually every rotation/week.
You state Mag is currently packed full of players; rumor has it Mag is tanking atm and/or had certain commanders + guilds x-fer off so those who would usually enjoy WvW or edge are probably off elsewhere playing other games not to mention PvP league season has started so that occupies a lot of player’s time.
In addition to your inquiry about edge being a dead game mode - it has seen the following nerfs and/or already existing implementations:
- Reduced Edge of the Mists rewards.
- Reduced event karma, gold, experience, and world experience by 25%.
- The number of Badges of Honor awarded for capturing an objective has been reduced to be consistent with other WvW maps.
- The chests that spawned on objective capture containing badges and ascended materials have been removed.
- The Badges of Honor and ascended materials are now dropped by the objective’s boss instead.

I could go into detail about other contributing factors that made edge not as fun for some (target limit on all lines aka necro fear walls, movement inducing changes to skills rip jumping into BL area with superspeed + rocket boots, introduction of HoT in general.. powercreep blah blah etc etc..) resulting in the apparent decline of interest in the gimmicky game mode, not to mention the big man – real WvW itself.
If that is your only toon I suggest perhaps levelling via crafting or hitting up some PvP considering you’ll get rewards and tomes from the tracks there. Edge/WvW isn’t that reliable unless your server is doing well and/or you somehow managed to hook in some fresh guilds that can hold their ground OR your side for some miraculous reason is having that awkward moment of “Bye Felicia” where the other two sides don’t give a hoot about your existence – too busy fighting each other and you kind of just k-train/back cap objectives avoiding them entirely because nobody cares. At all. Ever.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Hope that helps.

eotm needs to be disabled…
I’m trying to level up my character quickly by playing WvW.
The lvling speed in EotM depends on how good your zerg is and how much you cap. If your zerg gets defeated often, it’s not optimal. If your commander wants to kill people, again, it’s not optimal because a low lvl player won’t get many kills, you need to cap stuff. The trick is to go when a match starts (every 4 hours), my server is pretty active and I get about 3-4 Tomes / hour from rankup, without boosters(!), not counting extra Tomes from reward tracks and Keep daily. Still, that’s like 4 levels / hour which is pretty good because PvE leveling slows down after lvl20-ish, there is no way I could do 4 lvls / hour in PvE after 20 but congrats if you can… x) If you have boosters with WvW rank gain, you can get Tomes even faster (+100% with celebration booster).
Also, if you EotM on a low level character, grab some gear with defensive stats, it will scale up. It doesn’t matter if you don’t get credit for champ kills, the main exp comes from capping. Stay alive, stay with the group and don’t rush into enemy zergs.
So would it be better to just wait every 4 hours for a group to come along in EoTM, or go to regular and try to find a zerg so I maybe won’t get one shot?
I hope it is a dead game mode. We need more WvW maps.
It was originally introduced as the overflow to full queue servers during peak times and to test new WvW mechanics. A bit later, the living story also used it for one specific area.
If you haven’t noticed outside NA Friday night peak hours, there is always open room on every server to join at least one of the borderlands without a queue in front of you. Read, the WvW population is very small compared to where it was especially considering the linked servers.
Then WvW devs then decided that testing content in EotM (siege cannons, PPT changes, etc.) was not worth putting into EotM and just straight added it to the regular maps.
Living story (PvE content which brought more people into the map – even if briefly) was a short few weeks window.
And finally, the above posters are right. EotM was the defacto place to go level 2 years ago and more importantly for some, karma train for those that needed it. Because it was easy to follow the zerg, capture objectives and get even more bonus loot through WvW chest rank ups. Guilds were formed, PUGs followed, that “exploited” the farm and it was zergs usually purposely avoiding one another to flip objectives in rotation.
Those days are gone when ANet nerfed the loot and xp gains (outside of tomes).
It’s no longer a popular map (the mechanics are biased to green) but I would sure take it over Desert borderlands any day in a WvW map rotation.
I hope it is a dead game mode. We need more WvW maps.
Wasted resources that benefit only pvers yet again. Should have dedicated their time to improving the wvw mode, now we have EOTM where the pvers sucked the map dry and moved onto the next mmo like vampires.
I’m still a low level player, level 23 at the time of posting this. I’m trying to level up my character quickly by playing WvW. Now, regular WvW is pretty much a “whoever is a higher level automatically wins” and is full of max level people, so I don’t play it in order to avoid getting constantly one-shot. I’ve been told EoTM is balanced, giving all players equal ground. That’d be great, if anybody ever got on EoTM. I must have gotten on about 8 times, all at different times of the day, and only ONCE have I ever seen a group of players storming an enemy point. FYI im on the Maguuma server, which is packed full of players, but no matter when I get on EoTM, there’s nobody on, ultimately making WvW pointless for me, because theres nothing I can do to level up or earn loot. Is EoTM truly a dead gamemode, with everyone preferring regular WvW, or am I just so unlucky that I happen to get on right after everyone leaves? It’s honestly made WvW for me the biggest disappointment of Guild Wars, because the only thing I can ever do is either join regular and be able to do nothing because I get one shot, or join EoTM and be able to do nothing because nobody is playing it.
It’s not hard to level up in pve, just complete the hearts and map completion and you will be level 80 before you finish the map. And you might learn something about the game along the way.
EOTM was meant to be an overflow map whilst people waited in queues. then it became for a while the favourite karma train of upscaled and pve’rs, but then new maps came out in pve land and EOTM is now pretty much done for, most of the time.
Save yourself time and effort and level up in pve- you’ll get more and better drops there too.
EOTM was created as a mean to handle queues in “Full” servers at that time and devs come up with additional justifications like additional mean to get newbies to WvW. They took a year to complete it and the queues were getting lesser by then. EOTM back then has more rewards in both loots and leveling. A lot of people do EOTM for the easy levels but this come at a price which is people have gained a different perception of large scale PvP. EOTM became a target for the wvw regulars and is blamed as one of the primary causes of declining WvW activities and demand EOTM to be nerfed or deleted. EOTM leveling has been nerfed some time back, reducing the reasons to EOTM. I do not know if EOTM is dead or not but I do know I haven’t done my EOTM achievement points.

I plan to play EotM today
Seafarer’s Rest EotM grinch
I’ve been going to Eotm because my server is currently dead due to xfering
based on my experience. Eotm is better in my view because theres a lot less mechanics that interact each other and more room for any kind of gameplay
