Is WvW Really Dead? [Merged]
Is there any server that still has consistent trains and roaming groups?
Bad Elementalist
EotM…. But that is not a server thing so much as a color thing.
Is there any server that still has consistent trains and roaming groups?
Yes.. Yes. Those are your answers. Yes, WvW is pretty much dead if you compare it to the launch of GW2. Back then, them q’s can kill you more than the blobs. Consistent trains exists. EOTM and the blobbiest servers will be able to keep trains going. Roaming groups are basically another term for bag donation groups for blobs.
Magummie “imploded” after season 2. Move to a T1 or T2 server if you want more consistant action.
Or wait until the gummy bears stabilize in a tier they belong in.
Is there any server that still has consistent trains and roaming groups?
TC still has many guilds devoted to Havoc, GVG and roaming play. During NA time, we have zerg trains too and our off times are getting them as well.
It’s been dead on many servers. Be nice to see them group some of the smaller servers together. I think a lot of people just dont like being outnumbered 200 to 1 on every map and have given up. WvW is a lot of things, but numbers/coverage tends to be the most important. If your server doesnt have the numbers, its just no fun.
is dead when u face the same server 4 times in a month
and merging server isn’t the solution, because ppl transfert on the blob server every time, leaveing low tier server more low populated
They think it’s all over
We are removing white swords from objectives
We are also going to test out awarding points per kill.
It is now!
I used to be a PvE player like you, then I played Guild Wars 2
None of the major WvW guilds I know have been raiding. Almost everyone is playing new HoT content, doing Halloween stuff, or working on building up their guild hall.
It is most certainly not dead. You are just going to have to wait a few weeks for everyone to do a lot of the HoT stuff and then get back into their regular WvW rallies.
There are 2 things which keep WvW alive.
1) The players
2) The devs
For 3 years the devs have neglected WvW!
After 3 years we get one new map, but this map has been released at the same time as new content, and halloween.
Add the fact that some of those who have played on the new maps, dont like it, well things are looking even worse for WvW.
We players can only keep things going for so long, it’s only a matter of time before a new game comes out which will drive the remaining players away from GW2.
I used to be a PvE player like you, then I played Guild Wars 2
Not at all. I just signed off but like I’ve said many times before, the population is rising slowly and it did. It is more lively today than ever (after Hot release). Most of my guildies are doing pve contents and once they’re done, they’ll be back on wvw

I suppose it is possible that gating elite specs behind PVE could be a reason. at least it’s really fun PVE so far. I just seem to remember a time when hardcore wvw guilds didn’t care about pve and would be in wvw constantly raiding and gvg’’ing.
The will to play WvW is no doubt at an all time low due to HoT, broken WvW features, autoupgrades making WvW play itself and a border thats way too big to focus fights, but in addition to that its now also friday – most people probably still have their internal WvW clock set to a friday reset, so few play this late in the week…

If the new map was a succes, we would make time to be on the map and explore it as much as possible and enjoy every minute of it. You can get hero points through wvw so that is not a problem either.
There are wvw players that only play wvw and no other game mode, not even them are on the map, they stopped log in to the game, and there is farwel posts in the comunity forums, and all regular wvw players on my friendslist (and it is a long list) say they just can not be kitten d to log in and play the new border because it is to big and have no flow in it, and guilds are raiding on eb. People are waiting for respons from devs, but not getting it, meanwhile we are bleeding players.
Contrary to public opinion, I don’t think you’re going to see a WvW resurgence.
What I believe you’ll see is players start to cycle back into WvW only to find no enemies to fight. Between the 4 maps, there’s just not enough players to defend and attack even with a peak population. Players will attack undefended structures and avoid defended ones.
This was an issue prior to the expansion that, unfortunately, becomes an even bigger issue with a larger map, auto upgrades, and more objectives. People will quit out of boredom.
If they want to make WvW active again, they need to take EotM technology and apply it to the new map. Make one central map with overflows and combine all the servers into megaservers. Server loyalty is kind of a dead thing anyway.

It seems like an oversight to me that there is no alternate mastery progression in WvW that uses rank points instead of xp. You have people choosing either to progress their masteries or play WvW. They should be able to do both.
Hmm,
Maps unattractive to small scale → check
Class balance more out of control than ever → check
Guess you have it
Trying to roam lately has gotten worse, no fights on the borderlands at all and EB will always be 5:1 odds or no engagement.
Which means WvW is just another PvE map with you as the world boss event.
….. And Elementalist.

+1 same for me as hc wvw only player and with a fl full of it
the fl is empty now.
before hot the were 30-40 ppl play wvw only 4-8 hours per day 5-6 days per week.
all already gone or just check the game once a day for changes/g arena progress and log out/slack in pvp
this map is made from pve players for pve players that maybe play wvw as a 2./3. gamemode and care about “pretty” maps. the normal wvw only player doesn´t care about how the map looks just want a easy/flat/fast map for fights like the alpine bl was.
anet killed bl wvw for me and 90% of my fl with this map.
so blob up on eb when running pug and hope for g arena be a success because i will quit gw if not.

Why I’m not playing wvw right now:
Halloween
Balance issues (It’s no fun to get up and victory dance each time I kill an enemy because it’s so unlikely).
Bugs (AC bugs from before the patch which annoyed me loads, our green corner in EB constantly contested (no knocker), the WPs in the BL constantly contested and a lot of other bugs).
Can’t solo towers anymore – because of guard stacks removal and again bugs (who would’ve guessed).
The quality of wvw players in general “hurr durr, I’m doing whatever I like whether it makes sense or not.” The latter has been also caused by balance issues and changes to overall pvp gameplay, like the stab changes – pirate ship meta is no fun, but it’s the only reason I can still run with a zerg as a squishy thief.
I hope anet really stick to their word and make wvw “a priority” as the game mode itself is/was amazing – just after now a year (for me) of annoying stuff I’m burned out.
It’s amusing. The other month people were up in arms because Mike O’Brien insinuated that very few people played the WvW game mode exclusively. Now when you ask where all the WvW players are, you’ll be told “they’re in PvE.” Guess he was right afterall.
This new map is just a joke to me. Too much automated stuff going on and also too much pve and running about. Guess imma put my priorities on pve untill a game with a similar mode like wvw comes.

I still call myself wvw only player even if I do pve maybe 1-2 months within 3 years, because I love the lore of the universe.
Everything over 80-90% wvw playtime is “WvW only” for me but doesn’t exclude pve or pvp entirely.
All we wanted was a GvG.
if wvw had got gliding as well it wouldnt be so bad but it didnt and the new bl is terrible. I am in tier 1 and i can tell you its dead for all servers right now. ANd its true a lot of people are doing pve but as a TRUE wvwer i do not believe wvw should be something you do when you run out of content in pve just saying
I am on SoS, T2 server. I got on last night 9PM – 10PM central and roamed.
Did not see a single enemy.
Yes, I believe it to be dead.

That’s like saying muslims eat pork, and then throwing some on a desert island full of pigs and nothing else to survive!
NOTE: If the above does ever happen, the muslim is permitted to eat pork, just an FYI :P
WvW player are being forced into PvE to get masteries faster, the WvW way is way too slow!

Most of the ppl I know who only play wvw simply do not log in anymore……
Look at how effective someone is in a full Dire set.
Nice balance.

yeah that and all the new progression is in pve including legendaries which wvw has never gotten and if you get a precursor you have to pve to create so haha jokes on wvw
if no on exclusively pve its because anet has made it so people can’t

I don’t fault WvW players for playing seasonal content (Halloween), farming to work on their Guild Halls, or even checking out the new PvE zones (especially since Notarized Scrolls have been temporarily removed). I do however fault the WvW players who aren’t playing WvW for any reason aside from those listed above (forgive me if I missed another legitimate reason). You’re only hurting your own game mode.
I’m sure Mike O’Brien is sitting in an oversized supervillain chair somewhere looking at these skewed WvW/PvE population numbers and saying “I told you so.” Congrats Mike. You created a scenario to verify your BS statement, and the WvW pop is too busy whining to even try to prove you wrong.
Not dead… it is downed.. players constantly try to res it.. but anet keeps harrassing and placing debuff wells over its body.. that makes it hard to fully res it.. eventually one side will give up..
Or players will stop trying to res it.
Or anet will stop trying to kill it
before u guys all freak out…. everyone is busy getting all their class specialisations in pve atm and many of us have at least 5 classes they need all those stupid heropoints for and pve is 10-1000 times faster than wvw heropoints

Here is reality, my entire guild hates the new maps.
Because of this:
1. We only play on EB so….
2. Some are in PvE waiting for EB queue to pop.
3. Don’t log in as often any more.
Any PvE being done is pretty much only what has been forced upon us.
“Wait around for a few weeks while people do other stuff” .. That is ridiculous and the most idiotic way to think about the problem.
When you divide WvW by 24 (servers) then put a massive paywall between the quotient this is the result you get.
HoT = Pay to Win
WvW = Pay to play decent WvW
idk why I keep playing this game, the devs have shown us no respect.

Pretty much this. If I can’t get into EB in a decent amount of time, I’ll log and go play something else.
The new wvw maps are awful. Well, maybe not awful, but there are too many of them. Let EB & a new map rotate and bring back the Alpine BL’s. Then sit back a watch WvW come back alive.

I think the WvW forum regulars who tell themselves they represent this huge group of hardcore WvWers is slowly realizing that most WvWers are also PvE players and since we are all PvEing currently no one is in WvW. Give it a couple weeks/month and people will be back for sure. I have yet to step into WvW since HoT and it isn’t because I don’t like the map, its because there is so much else to do. Same goes for sPvP.
Why do we even have to discuss whether or not there’s a wvw only population? I’m pretty sure people want to see/test what they have paid 50+$ on – why shouldn’t that be okay?
The problem with wvw is that you “need” other players for it – and there are no megaservers, so when stuck on an empty borderland “Well, I can stand here and wait for someone to come by, or I can do some Halloween stuff or unlock some Masteries, or farm flax to help my guild upgrade”.
WvW upgrades are not automated and the only thing guild groups can do is with tactics. Tactics when they are actually reached by guilds after jumping threw hoops and the whole grind will probably make it more interesting. Each has to be crafted though with mats instead of influence along with all the other unlocks. Also there are the auras like the +5 which can only be accessed at guild level 37 with all the prerequisite. Until some of the guilds get their feet on their ground, probably will stay dead.
A lot of people are grinding elites, judging by….
- The random few that do have elite specs on WvW
- Me seeing WvW frequenters in the new zones
- Me actaully BEING in the new zones doing the same thing.
- People not being able to navigate the maps
- Add in Halloween and people are very spread out
- Leads to less people in WvW to actually play WvW to farm elites, leading to even more people going to PvE to do elites
- All kinds of bugs, like not even being to log in for extended periods of times
- WvW reset being on Saturday Night
- The Guild Buffs for WvW is completely new and also, Guild halls.

I’m skeptical, to be frank. It all depends what the #1 development priority comes up with. Hopefully it’s not megaserver or eotm pseudo-megaserver. Those both feel soulless and lack community – PvE just feels like it’s about individualism, there’s no point joining a group there. This is why I’m not confident of a solution for WvW’s issues.

With posts like these are we saying any time there is content added we should quit playing GW2 for at least a month?
Or are we just explaining the cause of the problem???
Srsly I think free transfer IS the solution. Free xfers while continuing to regulate populations as Anet is currently doing. Repeat anet is actively working to regulate populations.

No, it’s just an observation. I prefer to think of causes before even trying to spam whatever I think will solve everything. And it’s just from experience that WvW activity drops with any major pve release. This happens to be a really big one in addition to the actual WvW maps being frustrating to a lot of people. Getting people to move around doesn’t solve anything if the gameplay is fundamentally flawed.

Hard to tell if gameplay is fundamentally flawed without people being able to play together (move around). I have yet to experience anything but empty maps.
People fixating on things they can only imagine are a problem instead of trying to “spam” solutions to the REAL problem gets us nowhere.

Which is fine. But even deciding on what the real problem is becomes a fairly subjective observation. To be more clear, I think people are quick to dismiss other people’s problems and push their own as an agenda, often disguised as the real problem as a magic bullet to solve everything.
Having more people isn’t going to change the fact that people have expressed they don’t like running longer distances or that t3 structures are now commonplace and trivial.

Yes it’s a fact that some people who bother to express themselves have complained. Others have complimented.
I’d rather talk about something concrete like making WvW a 24/7 multiplayer PvP game. A problem that has persisted since day1.
