Is anything being done about trap thieves?
Classes I have seen beat and kill ghost thief. Power d/d core thief. Power DD d/p thief. Core power d/d ele. A rev. A DH. If you know what youre doing then belive it or not,they can be killed – though easier said then done.
Also thief traps them self’s are pretty garbage and are not the issue here although people did cry at thives using choking gas while stealthed wich did get nerfed twice (dmg on hot and lower poison duration)

stealth traps arent for single targeting. yes you can use them, but you cant say “hey buy this item with a long casting time which is more than just obvious to beat this overpowered build”.

But it does and the sooner people actally try to do something instead moaning on the forums the better. The game is already becoming too easy with passive stuff carrying people as well as passive runes (durabilty prime example) they can be killed with out using stealth traps.

Using hyperbole to prove your point does nothing, I offered a solution, use it or don’t. As I see it people are complaining about a build that can be countered and killed, yet are too stuck on whatever it is that is stopping them, from actually putting together a plan or a strategy, and instead, come to the forums and complain/moan/groan about it.

I’m guessing sounds and visual effects like red circles and smoke erupting from the ground, don’t fall under, “Big tells”.
And they have to re-apply their stealth, using all their initiative, to stay stealthed for a few seconds, not to mention use their heal skill when it isn’t needed to proc the extra trap.

No. I am guessing you can not read or bother to read. I have said the issue was stealth stacking numerous times and NOT the ability to inflict damage while stealthed.
Logic dicates that if all classes with that stealth access can inflict damage while stealthed than any issues around Ghost thief are related to said stacking. From that the question must be asked as to whether the Ghost thief that big an issue in game terms that the ability to stealth stack needs to be removed.
It my own opinion that in the build is hardly OP and can be countered and that the more relevant issue is how it relates to the fun factor and frustration levels in game when dealing with one.

The other night I came across 5 or 6 on ourside trying to chase down a ghost thief. I logged off got in my engineer, specced for reveals logged in went to same area, used engineer and thief was dead in seconds. he thief could not even escape with SB as he had used his ini to stealth up.

Great solution. You had to log off and bring a very specific build on a specific class in order to beat one guy with the help of 5-6 others (who got too kitteny and didn’t run when you turned up). If he was half decent he would have realised what you were playing and just disappeared off in to the sunset without you being able to catch him. If you have a queue on the map, what then?
Anyone who thinks stealth traps work at all as an aid in catching one of these is obviously a cheese playing thief, as stealth traps are about as useless as building a treb where the thief is and about as useful in stopping a pair of ghost thiefs. Try placing one when there are two thiefs and enjoy being downed while you stand there animating the trap…
The suggestion that you can run and stand in his circle in order to stop him stealthing is completely laughable..you need to spot it, move to it and hope he hits you in a fraction of a second whilst looking 360 degrees around you…on something that takes him 0.005 seconds to execute…
The real issue is that balance isn’t done for wvw, it’s done for pve and raids and spvp. They simply don’t care enough to test out changes in a wvw scenario.

Engi’s sort of can do it but the gyro gives away their position most of the time. More importantly the gyro can be immobilized, destroyed, etc allowing for direct counters by every class.
Stealth is a sticky point in almost any MMO. However GW2 has massive stealth up time with almost no counter play against it. The window to counter is either non-existent (Ghost Thief) or so short it requires 3s or less to actually win a fight. Stealth builds in GW2 almost always die from player mistakes not from getting out played. The number of anti-stealth options are extremely limited and most have significant costs/drawbacks.

You are moving the goalposts. You suggested that no other class can apply damage without breaking stealth. This is not the case.

I never suggested Mesmer had perma stealth. Read his post. The person stated suggested that only the thioef can apply damage while stealthed. That is false.
I have already concurred that perma stealth the issue several times over. I have also stated that the ability to apply damage while stealthed occurs across several classes and given that the case and no one seems to have issues with those examples the issue is perma-stealth and not damage while stealthed.
I have suggested how this can be addressed without breaking other legitimate builds.

They WOULDN’T be in STEALTH if you used STEALTH TRAPS and stood inside their BLACK POWDER ring, but, hey, let’s complain and cross our fingers for a nerf, so we don’t need to use our brains and try.
You are offering makeshift solutions to a problem that shouldn’t exist.
But it does and the sooner people actally try to do something instead moaning on the forums the better. The game is already becoming too easy with passive stuff carrying people as well as passive runes (durabilty prime example) they can be killed with out using stealth traps.
The other night I came across 5 or 6 on ourside trying to chase down a ghost thief. I logged off got in my engineer, specced for reveals logged in went to same area, used engineer and thief was dead in seconds. he thief could not even escape with SB as he had used his ini to stealth up.
Great solution. You had to log off and bring a very specific build on a specific class in order to beat one guy with the help of 5-6 others (who got too kitteny and didn’t run when you turned up). If he was half decent he would have realised what you were playing and just disappeared off in to the sunset without you being able to catch him. If you have a queue on the map, what then?
Anyone who thinks stealth traps work at all as an aid in catching one of these is obviously a cheese playing thief, as stealth traps are about as useless as building a treb where the thief is and about as useful in stopping a pair of ghost thiefs. Try placing one when there are two thiefs and enjoy being downed while you stand there animating the trap…
The suggestion that you can run and stand in his circle in order to stop him stealthing is completely laughable..you need to spot it, move to it and hope he hits you in a fraction of a second whilst looking 360 degrees around you…on something that takes him 0.005 seconds to execute…
The real issue is that balance isn’t done for wvw, it’s done for pve and raids and spvp. They simply don’t care enough to test out changes in a wvw scenario.
I have a thief and when there a person arming an arrow cart up on the wall I can do nothing about it. I just do not have the range to hit him whereas an elementalist can come in and drop meteor shower and take him out in short order.
I can give examples acorss the board of professions that can not do what others can> Every night I hear commanders asking for Staff elementalists or Guardians to perfrom specific tasks wi8thin the zergs because only they can do them> Indeed many who join the zerg will log off one profession to bring in another because their particular skills are lacking and are needed.
Do you think My thief should have the same abilities to take out siege as does an Elemetalist at range?
Do you think my thief should be able to apply boons across the board to others in my group, cleanse condition soff them as needed, give them resistance or stability or protection or do you think if I wished to do that I should bring in a profession that has those things ?
When a commander says “Give us stealth” should the Elementalist do that as well?
Should a ranger also have the ability to use a portal for a portal bomb, just in case there no mesmer around or their a queue on the BL in question?
If you do not want to bring the right tool to do the required job you should not be complaining that it not possible to get the job done.
There are other ways of forcing a reveal as well such as Bloody roar from a warrior and lights judgement from a DH. That people do not want to trait these skills is because they would rather run to the boards everytime there a stealthed thief and complain.

They probably don’t like the opportunity cost of selecting traits/skills to counter stealth. They realize that, then they complain.

Yeah when i found my condition p/d thief could do little against warrior with reistance up , I retraited him to take RS , problem solved.
The metaphiles then claimed it not meta so it a bad build.

I have already concurred that perma stealth the issue several times over. I have also stated that the ability to apply damage while stealthed occurs across several classes and given that the case and no one seems to have issues with those examples the issue is perma-stealth and not damage while stealthed.
You are parsing and trying to make an argument where there is none. The clear intent of his statements are that no class should be lethal while remaining perma or mostly stealthed.
Trying to derail that argument into fringe examples of builds that are not even in the same lethal capability while retaining some stealth is ridiculous. Lets stop with the Trumpisms.

We can debate all day whether turret/pet/clone damage is actual class damage and should reveal the Engi or the turret/pet/clone but it serves no purpose since it isn’t an actual issue in the game. However that is not the topic of this thread and trying to parse someones casual statement into an Engi can do so it is OK is as I said, strawman argument.

It is valid when people claim no other class has the ability to inflict damage while remaining stealthed and then suggesting a reveal be applied to the thief ANY time the thief applies conditions.
This in fact has been suggested. A person in fact suggested that stepping in caltrops force a reveal. What thief would ever use Caltrops?
Back when Trappers runes first nerfed people were claiming Ghost Thief existed because of trapper runes. I stated then that such was not the case and gave all manner of examples of builds that could have perma stealth without said runes.
The WRONG fix was applied even as I received objections much like your own. If we want the right fix we have to identify the problem properly otherwise the problem remains and legitmate builds are broken.
I will continue to counter the claim “The issue is being able to apply damage while stealthed” as long as that claim made because it not correct. This is not quibbling or sidetracking , it is how we arrive at legitimate solutions to legitimate problems.
