Is it worth it to return?

big impact ? not really. for me, those ascended armors are to cater for those fractal grinding players. yes they add the stats a bit, but the different is very negligible indeed, for example for set berserker, ascended vs exotic only 14 for power. of course you can add more to the infusion slots but that would cost a lot.
i mean, take a look at how damage are calculated, and see if 50 power difference really make a difference in damage, and decide for yourself.
i wouldn’t really care about ascended armor. may be i would some day if i suddenly turn into a fractal freaks, but certainly not for now.
just enjoy what you like in the game. forget the rest.

Ascended armor is a negligible increase in stats, and approximately a 5% increase in toughness via armor (and that percentage lowers as you add toughness through stats on armor/weapons/trinkets). So yes, it does make an impact. Is the impact very big? Not really. I would be willing to say the majority of the time, if I am at <5% health, it’s pretty guaranteed that I’m going to be downed soon.
Just look at the cost of those ascended pieces. Most WvW players will probably rather sell the Damask to make up for their low income through WvW than go for that negligible stat increase.
Exotic is still the go-to armor and the ascended users are few and far between.
Now, Ascended weapons and trinkets – those actually make a difference.

is it worth it to return for the game itself? not even remotely. if you weren’t happy with things before, almost nothing has changed so you’ll just end up back in the same position. if you have friends and a guild here, then that would change matters. they can make it worth it to log in again, but if you have other avenues to hang out with them that would be the better option, by far.
Also, if you want to play, go play, if you don’t, then don’t.
It’s not like you need to pay fees or anything. Just play when you feel like it, as long as you feel like it.

Currently, Ascended armor is only a small stat improvement over exotic. However, I predict that Anet will begin an infusion slot stat grind next. Currently, infusion slots can each hold +5 stats. I’m predicting that Anet will gradually increase these stats (I’m talking on the order of every few months) from +5, to maybe +7, then +10, etc., with each increase tied to a large amount of grind. These stats will, at some point, add up to become significant.
And the kicker: only Ascended gear has infusion slots.
So even if you do come back now, I’m guessing you’ll have to face the Ascended grind (plus more) in the not too distant future.
Yes you can fight with Exotic.
But when you add (Food)(Nourishment)(World Rank 230) + (Ascended everything) = a rough 20% benefit over others.
Ascended alone gives 11.78956% Boost over Exotic stats.

The effects of the 5% shows itself not just when you’re at 5% health. If you have traits that are only effective above a certain percentage (e.g. Diamond Skin) then that means longer uptime because you now have more health above that percentage and so foes have to hit you more to get you below it.
As an example, if you have 15000 health and your trait works when your health is above 90%, that means it has effect when you’re over 13500 health.
If you add 5% to your health, then it becomes 15750. 90% of that is 14175.
So with ascended armor, you’d be able to take 675 more damage before you’d lose that trait’s ability.
Thanks for the reply… I think I’ll just give it a try. We’ll see where it goes

Trinkets (reasonable) and the weapons (expensive) are worth it. Ascended armor is nice to have but the stats are a very minor boost. Many players change their builds up too frequently to invest the 100s of gold it takes to get one set of armor.

Worth what? It costs literally nothing for you to decided that for yourself.

Worth time. And yes I feed trolls.

It depends on what you do in WvW.
I am a roamer, and for me ascended equipment is very useful, especially when I roam solo.
I am working on my ascended armour, simply because I slot all my ascended stuff with anti-guard infusions.
So there is a guard WExp lines (+10% damage, -10% damage). On top of that you have, say, 2 offensive slots from weapons. From trinkets: 2 defensive, 4 offensive (assuming power build; you might go full defensive for condi build) and armour gives you as much as 6 defensive slots.
This gives you total +16% damage vs guards and -18% damage from guards, effectively making guards and lords much less dangerous.
This is something which speeds up solo camp or tower capping (with ascended trinkets, weapons and 3 pieces of ascended armour I can take a tower solo in about 2:30 minutes). So for me it is definitely worth it, as, in the end, roamers fight guards as much as players and we fight in camps quite often (less damage from NPCs and more damage to have a chance to rally / take camp faster).
It is also a boost fighting other players, of course (in terms of light armour, +47 armour (equals toughness), +30 vit (or toughness or healing power) from infusions, +36 selectable stats (14/11/11)), but in my personal opinion ascended equipment becomes interesting mostly with WvW infusions.
As a downside, it kind of locks you into a family of builds (Defensive or Power or Condition armour) and makes rune switching needlessly expensive, so… this is a real issue, for me.
On the other hand, I am gradually replacing exotics with ascended and I don’t “feel” a major boost of awesomeness. I could play on exotics and I don’t think I would see much of a difference fighting players. Against guards though, yeah, there is a difference.
As I don’t have alts, only one character, for me it is worth it. Every minor advantage I can get over an enemy is worth it for me.
But this won’t give me a victory over a better enemy, over a build countering mine, or over more enemies.
Hope it helps at least a bit :-).

for ascended armor stat comparisons. for the most part you are looking at a 50-60 increase in defense rating (works out to a 2% increase on total armor rating for a heavy with 3k armor) and total increased stats of +36 (or 42 for celestial). Which is like 1-2% per stat type. The difference is less than 1 stack of bloodlust and much less than than the differences in stats that can occur from the wvw bonus stats from ppt.

Each defensive armor stat you gain means you can swap a defensive stat elsewhere in your build for a power/precision/critical damage stat. Those three offensive stats synergize so that instead of gaining 2% in defense, you can instead gain more than 2% in offense.
First answer this: “are you a warrior”?
If you’re a PvE player then: yes
If you’re a WvW player then: no
Did I read your post: no
Did I reply based off your topic title: yes
….. And Elementalist.
@Eloquence.5207
No, I play mostly Mesmer, sometimes Necor or Ranger, thinking about finally leveling my Ele to 80.
I was yesterday running with my guild again. Was okayish. After our guild event was done, I was roaming with two of my guildies and I realized how much I sucked after having a break for only 4 weeks^^
