I see both sides.
Yes it sucks the top 3 servers are so stacked that 4/5/6 will get pummeled.
But competitions and sports are like that.

Look at the NBA. Over the course of a 80 game season, does anyone think teams like Miami, Oklahoma City, San Antonio will ever finish behind teams like Toronto, Phoenix, or Milwaukee? No, but they play the season anyways.
Sure on any given night one of the weaker teams in basketball will prevail, much like in WvW the weaker side may hold a PPT advantage for an hour or two… but in the end, inevitably, the stronger side will prevail.
Getting beaten down isn’t the awesomest thing ever, but it’s certainly better than being the one doing the beating in WvW. At least when you’re losing there’s always a fight to be had. It really stinks getting home from work and ticking for 600+ all week like last week when we faced Yak’s Bend and NSP. It’s not like winning is a glorious feat. Anyone can transfer to tier 1 if they want. Go out for the fights and the chance to learn and see new things. Whichever 2 of FA/SoS/Mag/SBI make gold league, it’s a good chance to farm bags for 7 weeks!

In professional sports they don’t let the winners of the SuperBowl play junior college teams.

having been on JQ since the game released, it s shame its a zerg-a-rama Another game that recently released a three faction zone stops the competition for points at midnight Pacific, can still go fight just the things you’re fighting over dont flip

Please remember the league is just an experiment by anet. We arent sure if there will even be a league 2. They may just revert it back 0_o

Here is an idea:

Make Alliances between high and low pop servers and make guesting available on the allianced servers for wvw.

Or even better make WvW alliance based between Vigil, Priory and Whisper make maps instanced where people can Que as a group.

Server full? generate an overflow.

Problem solved. unless every freaking player in game will represent 1 Order.

From there, they have to give a reason for continued inaction; and in the end they have to admit that they are going to take all the money from gem sales and spend it on hookers and blow. See, the people suggesting that the gold league, as implemented now, is pointless, they’re missing the point a bit. Yes, being in the gold league and not being one of the top 3 currently rated servers pretty much equals “you lose!”, but consider how much WORSE it would have been: the NA servers were just going to be split into two leagues before. Now everyone who ISN’T already in the top 6 or for some bizarre reason desperately trying to be can take solace in the knowledge that they won’t have to fight ANY of the servers in gold league for MONTHS.

Which is frankly the best news we’ve had in ages; the only downside is that there isn’t room in the top 6 for ALL of the servers we want to just go away for the foreseeable future of our matches to fit into, making it a question of which server we want to see climb in rating (and therefore go away) the most. At least the majority of the silver league will be servers that are actually fun to fight.

You guys don’t get it. The purpose of ANet in WvW is not to create a balanced PvP environment where people can measure their skills. That’s for sPvP.

Their purpose is to get as many people as possible to play WvW. Regardless the scores, the fairness and hurt feelings.

Every change they made so far in WvW was intended to draw non WvWers into WvW. The new League system is the same

The new league system is not there to allow WvW groups to fight and see which is better. It was created to get as many nonWvWers in the game as possible. Almost free transfers and finisher rewards are just part of it.

And you can’t really blame them – WvW was meant to be “casual”, “inclusive” open field siege warfare since the beginning.

Do WvWer’s want a competitive system, where winning and losing matters? Where the “best” (ie. best recruiters, best organised, and then best playing) server will reach the top?

Or do they want a matchmaking system, where everyone just plays their equals over and over and the win rate is 50% (well, 33% in a three-sided match…)

Both are viable options, it feels like ANet has tried the matchmaking approach (however imperfectly) and is now giving the competitive approach a try.

No it isn’t pointless. How about, whenever one of the top 3 teams faces two of the bottom 3 teams, the bottom 2 double team that top tier team the whole week. Us bottom 3 might not have a chance to win, but we sure can cause havok for the top 3.

Also, if we double team, there is a better chance for one of the 2 lower servers to pull out an upset that week. Just need to make sure that we don’t turn against each other, and focus fire on the higher server.

They can be beaten. But it will take effort on our part. It sure would be fun to try.

We saw how well this worked last night when your EB crew made a beeline for our 3rd of the map right at reset.

The only server that has ever had the discipline to do a 2v1 is Maguuma.

Actually putting T1 into its own league could help fix the stacking issue. It all depends on rewards. ANET would need to look at the winner of T1 as first place, the loser of T1 as last place and the middle server in the middle.

Let’s compare it to a 9 server league. The winner of T1 receives the same rewards as the winner of the 9 server league. The loser of T1 receives the same rewards as the 9th place team. Second place in T1 receives the same as the 4th ranked server.

Apparently, since you have not figured it out, a server can be stacked to kingdom come BUT still must “make an effort” to WIN, duh.
