Is there any demand for a 1v1 map?
I’d love to see more maps focused on different game-types/ideas. Be it roaming, wall to wall fighting, trench warfare, jungle hunting etc.
Your map idea sounds a bit like old GW1 maps, with objectives and different "lanes" to go for, to encourage players to split up and attack different parts or sides at the same time. Sounds fun.
One day, I hope to see a map themed after Arrakis/Dune with giant sandworms that comes and devours groups of 20+

The population imbalances and coverage are already tricky with 3 servers. With two servers they’re just obnoxious.

Perhaps, but if you recall GW1 and how they did it, the maps progressed in such a way that the losing side gained increasing amounts of terrain advantages, including having a castle and more defending NPCs. It would be fun if they had a series of maps similar in playstyle where if one side wins a number of times it goes to the next map where it’s harder for them.
The other thing they ended up doing in GW1 was running events promoting one game mode during a certain week. Player base was dwindling and there were a huge number of PvP modes competing for attention.
I think they’re keen to avoid doing that in GW2 – possibly a little too keen. One of the advantages of the WvW context is it doesn’t have to play exactly the same from one map to another, from one week to the next. PvE world has different meta events for each map. WvW has… potential for something else?
So a bigger stronghold map with smc in the middle.

That would actually promote interesting gameplay and would allow interesting and, dare I say it, fun matches despite population imbalances.
The current maps & mode degenerate into a dumpster fire in the face of even moderate population imbalance.
OS is for person vs person arena. Title is a bit missleading – this 1v1 is not the 1v1 we all know.
If you meet someone you want to 1v1, you can also take them to your guild hall arena if you have one.

The OP is referring to 1vs1 servers, not 1vs1 players.
Though it would be awesome if you could invite 2 whole servers to your guild arena !
