Is there any future incentive to zerg less?

Zergs are popular because they’re safe and they are easy.
When it becomes more able for smaller groups to assault locations then you’ll see smaller groups. Until then you’ll see 10 arrow carts in each tower and smaller groups wont even try against it. It simply takes too much supply for small groups to build up the adequate siege.
It is possible for the mindless zerg to be beaten by smaller more coordinated groups.

There is a way to discourage zerging, it’s called add body blocking. Here is a video illustrating a mindless zerg getting owned because of body blocking.

even the most experienced coordinated guild will be stomped by zerg in open field if they outnumbered 3 to 1.
simply due to skill lag and dodge freeze.
Also remember the new and improved wexp! It isn’t just about ease! Now it is also about speed! Sure it is easy to take that un defended tower with 5-10 people, but do it slow when your tower can just be a speed bump in the Zerg wexp train!

Well, I had a thought but a bit nervous about posting it as some people on this forums can be straight up rude and mean when someone posts an idea they do not like. But here it goes.
If we all really want to make huge zergs less effective then how about an area debuff that increases in strength the bigger the zerg? Debuff could be more incoming damage, less outgoing damage. It could be a tiered debuff, could start tier 1 at 30 or more, tier 2 35 or more etc. It would discourage giant blobs and maybe encourage smaller strike teams. Currently some servers complain they aren’t organised enough, well this would make them get organised.
Some people say wvw is made for zerging but I disagree. In the ettenmoors in LOTRO it was rare that a small group could do anything effective, but in gw2 1-2 people can take camps, small groups can take towers etc. It is possible. I believe that the blobbing is a user created problem, the mentality of gamers. Its just an idea. I personally really would not mind debuff as it would encourage myself and guild members to make the smaller groups. Right now when we try we usually get steamrolled at a camp by groups of 40.
ok that’s my idea ~runs for cover~

Running in small groups 5-10 isn’t easy. It takes time; thought, and Focus. 3 things the average terrible back peddling zerger knows nothing about. Anet made this appeal to the masses folks, and the masses want to come home from work, feel like a roman or some mythical knight, and have ez mode doing it. Cha Ching goes the cash register.

it depends…
if for “smaller more coordinated Group”, you mean 30men guild minizerg vs 40men pug zerg, yes of course it’s possible.
but they’re a lot stronger
than they will be next year!
The best tactics/strategy I have seen is a overall ‘zerg’ of 40-50 but several 5 player teams spilt off/rejoin on a regular basis. The zerg takes towers/keeps/sm, the 5 smaller teams do scouting, camp/guard/merc flipping.
If the 5 player teams run into trouble, they call there zerg in, which will be nearby at a tower/keep usually.
Camps will be full of supply for the zerg ahead of time.
The commander/s have a very good idea of whats going on in there surrounding area, letting them control the battlefield.
The zerg doesn’t need to slow down at all to check for mesmers/thiefs, build siege, the orbiting 5 player teams do all that…
Its very, very pug/organised player friendly…
The speed at which you can turn the map your colour is frightening…
Most of the top tiers already operate like this via TS.

We already got 20s long skill delay at times, I don’t want to make it 2 minutes :o
Simple, make the In-Combat Speed the standard speed and get rid of the out-of-combat speed, so the only way to move faster is through swiftness and movement skills.
This will make the maps feel bigger.
This will make it so a small man has better chance of taking towers, a zerg can’t just ignore a small group and be on the other side of the map then run all the way back when the wall is at 5% because the 5 people in the tower reporting are just waiting instead of going out to fight.
This will make it so the second half of the zerg that is Out-of-Combat can’t catch up to a small roaming group just because they are stuck In-Combat.
This will make positioning of all the players in the map much more important since everyone will be moving across the map much slower.

Not bad ideas dude. Bottom line is maps should be redesigned and made bigger. fact. 20-30% of the BL map is water that no one fights in….wasted zone space. Keeps towers camps all 5 feet away from each other. ANET FIRE YOUR MAP DESIGNER! lol
With bigger maps and less speed, people will be afraid to die and have to run all the way again and will stay in the safety of the zerg even more. While it will be easier to capture objectives with a smaller group, running into a zerg will be even more frustrating.

Less speed applies to everyone and it does not make it easier for anyone.
This is a fact people seem to be ignoring;
Zergs are faster than normal players and small groups
They always have swiftness up 100% for minutes on end most of the time.

You don’t have to read it all but trust me, it illustrates the type of thinking you should be doing. Not this “debuff for players!” stuff.
(edited by Castaliea.3156)
Not only zergs are faster by constant application of swiftness, but they can more easily catch up with loners since it takes one forward zergling to put the fleeing people into combat and drown them in a sea of players.
