Guild Wars 2

Was fighting a ranger while I was roaming and I went into stealth to backstab him and star some nice burst to try to end the fight. He started walking backwards and auto attacking (nothing strange) but then for some reason when he was attacking he started teleporting backwards. I wasn’t having lag issues at all he was just porting around and I couldn’t hit him. Later I was fighting the same ranger with a Mesmer buddy and we have him almost down but then he starts porting around again, we couldn’t target him and we couldn’t hit him and he just ported in short distances all the way back to his tower.

So my question:
Was this guy hacking or did I have connection issues when everything else in the game was working exactly as it was supposed to?

I appreciate any info I can get cause that whole situation didn’t really make sense to me.

Not sure if it is a “hack” but probably more of an exploit. This happens quite a bit in GW2 but i have also noticed it in other MMO’s as well. 90% of the time in GW2 its when the other is losing. In other games I have seen people exhibit this behavior when they need to get around or through me and my allies.

What are they exploiting? I mean, what actually happened? If this hasn’t been made obvious I’m kinda clueless over what exactly happened.

Same. I have no clue. I was just letting you know others have seen it too and that it doesn’t seem to be limited to GW2.

Did the ranger change into a sword and used the leap skill to get away?

They do tend to pick classes where it’s less obvious…But still obvious enough for it usually only to be happening when they get low on hp..Remember Lagswitches ?,it seems exactly like that.

Sounds like the ranger was hacking, but without video proof, we cannot be sure. Sending a report to Anet might help, but don’t hope for much.

It really depends on how much he teleported.
Between the sword 2, lightning reflexes, and 2 dodges backwards my ranger can put plenty of distance between where I was 5 seconds ago and where I am now.

Yeah, I’m going to go with dasenthal on this one. Sounds like if he was moving backwards in shorts bursts he probably was using sword 2, and lightning reflexes. Both of those skills launch you backwards a decent distance. If he was trying to get away using teleport hacks, he just would have teleported somewhere else and just be gone, instead of in short bursts.

I’d have thought the same thing except he was using his lb and auto- attacking with it which would port him just out of range of any of my dagger strikes.

report him for botting, cuz thats anets makeshift hack detection system until they improve reporting

let the GMs sort it out

What the OP describes is exactly what a speedhacker looks like. Record it, post it to youtube (and link it in the other forum), report him as many times as needed to get the GMs’ attention, and move on with your day.
