Is this how WvWvW is supposed to be?
Yes, yes it is.

Well, if this is how it’s gonna go then what will happen is the active servers will drive what few players there are on the inactive servers to quit. If we can’t get a balanced match then it’s not fun for anyone other than the dominating side. It’s like ganking on a massive scale.
Oh, and it was pretty awesome to be swarmed by golems, I must admit that. If I had to pick a way to die, that would be a pretty awesome way.

Which suggests to me that TC/Mag/Ft. Aspenwood should be paired. If there is something I am not understanding or if new info is now available, please let me know. Either way, with this system, unless the number of high participation servers is divisible by 3, then there will always be a crazy inequality in the competition as a high participation server will be paired with, at most, two low participation servers. (Which seems to be the case with TC/Mag/DB). I wish there was some way to balance this out.

Those rankings are being updated while matches are still running. When the current round ends then new matchups will be created based on the current rankings.
Yes, I know that. I had assumed we moved to a 2 week cycle. (That was what I remember the normal period for WvW matches being. I might be wrong on that though.) I only mention this for two reasons:
1. To make people aware so that perhaps, in the future, such an imbalanced match up can be avoided.
2. To show my cool photos of the golems. They were cool, were they not? :P

Golems are always cool.
And matchups are a week long at the moment. They have also only just shifted to weekly, it was daily before. So this is only the first round of weekly matches, which is why much of the complaining about balance is somewhat premature.

Do you reliaze that DB is lower than you here? And you want them to be on a higher bracket? How could they do that with this score board? One week later and they will be on a different bracket…
But why do you QQ over this and than make yourself wrong by yourself with copying that board?
Why not? Dominating doesn’t mean you’re going in without a fight. JQ an SBI put up good fights all the time.

Here’s a nice map update. As far as the rankings I posted, I was saying that those were the most recent ones I knew of. That’s all. I also never saw us matched up with the three on those rankings. That was my only point. It’s clear from the map, DB does not belong with TC or Mag.
WvW is working as intended, the ability to not be ignorant and stay in a zerg is the equivalence to skill, you don’t even need common sense really to lead a zerg, just hitting places as fast as possible works.
Nothing to see here really other than a couple servers that are unorganized vs a server that possibly stays zerged even if one person loggs off. Everything is fine.
(edited by R E F L H E X.8413)
^ actually we’ve been having good organization for the most part in the field.
and to answer title question, actually this really is how WvW is supposed to be.
if one or two sides gives up, why can’t the 3rd continue just taking stuff? Especially if they don’t go to defend, or if they’re there they run off after gates/walls are down
Maybe one day Tarnished Coast & Maguuma will get smart and stop fighting eachother and zerg down Dragonbrand.
Too many people that are new to the concept of WvW/RvR and prefer crying on a forum instead of fighting for their server in an organized way.
Lol, you should try playing on TC or maguuma. It would change your perspective.

Where did you get these rankings? They seem to be more updated than the ones that are posted at the top of this section (which is still listing dragonbrand at 1600 something)
At night (right now) pop of Dragonbrand is more than the combined pop of Maguuma and Tarnished Coast.
When the teams are even Dragonbrand gets pushed back to their original positions and then Maguuma and Tarnished Coast start trying to eat each other instead of wiping out Dragonbrand.
Then night comes and Dragonbrand takes everything again with their overwhelming numbers.

Dude, 7 golems ? 7 gold ? that’s NOTHING, you can get 3gold an hour alone just collecting mthril/ori and killing random mobs.
On vizunah we have a commander everyday in WvW, that’s 100gold a day, now go ahead and speak about wasted gold xD
The commander status is temporary? It expires at the end of the day it’s used? Really?

Exactly, those uncontested hours where DB racks up the points are the problem. I presume DB has a high AU/NZ presence, which is why they have so many at night. Perhaps some AU/NZ servers would fix this issue? Otherwise, I’m not really sure what can be done to fix it. You can’t just tell the AU/NZ people to even distribute themselves across the NA servers. They probably wouldn’t want to; at least official AU/NZ servers could offer them better latency.

The fact we have a strong 24/7 server..
From what I can tell…don’t play in the mornings or early prime time.
It’s a good thing, just wish we were going against similar servers
As much as I like the xp, I would love the fights more, since when I do get on I see the tail end of TC&Mag huge zergs.

Which why people from the Oceanic regions, which I presume you are, should have their own servers so that they can enjoy those fights, rather than capping points from servers without resistance because majority of the NA population is sleeping.

Actually I’m in the states, just have a weird schedule going on right now.
Spending more than 20s for 2 rams is overkill when the tower is outnumbered that badly.

My mistake then. I do, however, wonder how your server has managed to find so many people that are able to play during early morning EDT-PDT. Most of TC’s population has to sleep for work.

I play on TC, and when it’s peak time in the US we put up a decent fight – it just seems that we lose everything overnight when everyone is asleep. I don’t know how DB was ranked below us on the rankings – personally, I don’t know what value the ranking process held when they were still allowing free transfers, as it seems meaningless with people and guilds being able to move freely about. It seems to me they should lock transfers down before any kind of ranking process
A lot of servers are in the same situation, just waiting for reset because there is no enjoyment one can get from being completely controlled and even if we did somehow miraculously re-capture everything, there is no possible way that either of the losing teams can pull back a victory anyway now…

Edited two days ago:
1626.448 Dragonbrand (10)
1577.574 Tarnished Coast (11)
1520.354 Maguuma (12)
Thing is, the match was going well for the first few days, in Dragonbrand’s favour of course, then things just kinda fell apart at the start of the week when both TC and Maguuma were night capped.
During the day we both make gains, but we lose it all at night, and it’s getting more difficult to take stuff back when fewer players are joining WvW and when Dragonbrand is upgrading everything.
Exactly how is this stopping you from having fun in WvW? I am on TC and my small guild of 5 members (none of us 80) have been running around in WvW having a blast. We take supply camps, kill sentries and do whatever we can to mess with the other sides. We have been involved in taking keeps and defending them successfully.
Seriously, stop focusing on the score and try to have some fun. Move away from the golem zerg and hit something else. In the end after matchmaking has had more than one freaking round of weekly match-ups to work it’s algorithm it will balance the overall servers better.
I believe the Dragonbrand night-capping is due to guilds from Asia (a few obviously from Taiwan) and not the Kiwis or Aussies, but I could be wrong.
Either way, it just shows how weirdly lop-sided WvW is, and how it rewards points evenly, but that distribution seems to reward certain groups more than others.
FWIW, TC & Meg seem to join forces and push DB back pretty solidly during prime time. Watching TC & Meg players literally both siege the same DB keep within viewing distance of each other without fighting between them is kinda’ creepy though.
Seeing 150 Meguuma players in a clump together with variants of ‘Goon Squad’ guild tags (‘Goon Squad’, ‘G00n Squad’, Goonie Squad, Goon Squid, Goon Squad Too, etc … just makes the whole server seem one one massive zerg. lol)
Oh, and DB is that low down the list because it gets destroyed by any server with serious organization, and/or their own significant night-capping populous.
Lastly, I might as well mimic other posters in this section of the forum … if winning is so important to you, then free-server-transfer to a server than wins like so many others are doing. It seems the in thing to do.
‘WvW is designed to accommodate players that would not normally participate in PvP’, according to Anet. I don’t see how that statement supports being 100% dominated?
ArenaNet has been sending mixed signals on whether they want WvW to be a casual game mode, or one that requires worldwide 24/7 hardcore alliances.
I assume the current radio silence on their end is because they are trying to work out what they actually want WvW to be, and what the roadmap is going forward.
I can vouch that the TC vs DB vs MG match-up has been fun in NA primetime, with all servers pretty much even. It is only on NA off-hours that the game just becomes unplayable.
To me this indicates that the overall problem is the “snowball effect” — winning servers utterly dominating a map, which is why off-peak capping has become such an issue.
Lol, you should try playing on TC or maguuma. It would change your perspective.
I’ve played an under populated realm in DAoC for many years. I know how its like to be dominated. Its just how WvW is supposed to be played.
And DAoC topped out at what, 250k subs?
I really don’t think ArenaNet’s intention for WvW is for it to become a niche game at the DAoC or Eve Online level. They are thinking in terms of the mass market: millions of copies sold.
That said, if the snowball effect/off-peak/map domination issue is not fixed, WvW will become a niche game mode, at the DAoC level.

I never udnerstood the thought process that went into that quote. History should have told them that it was entirely wrong.

I started playing WvW for the massed epic battles around keeps and towers.
The small group excursions are fun, but not the main draw for me. Unfortunately you can’t have the big sieges when you can’t get out of your spawn, or actually hold a supply camp, let alone a tower.
For those saying “Don’t focus on the score” or anything like that… I’m not. I’m focused on my repair bill. When I’m constantly dying to the zergs and being pushed back, my bill soars and I slowly lose money. More so when I buy siege or upgrades only to have them snagged away before I have a chance to get the cash back. Being unable to gain any ground at all and doing effectively nothing doesn’t help… and I don’t even look at the points.
Being able to hold ground? Hearing strategies? Fighting to keep what we have? Yeah that’s fun. But dying over and over and over…….. there’s a point where that just stops being fun.
And no, I’m not that good a PVPer. That’s why I instead do other things. Sieging, scouting, repairs, tactical advice, occasionally defense or attacking of NPCs and the like.

You hit the nail on the head.
When the map is being dominated by another server, the rational choice is not to play WvW.
Per hour played you will earn much less karma than in PvE (or in a balanced WvW map) because it will be impossible to consistently take, hold or defend objectives. You will also be dying to the zerg more often, with your repair bill not being offset by event rewards.
And of course, rewards aside, it’s just not fun.
Lol, you should try playing on TC or maguuma. It would change your perspective.

Don’t think it’s fair to bring up sub base when DAoC came out many years ago(when MMOs were smaller), and GW2 is brand new (MMOs being well known).
Plus it’s silly to compare p2p with f2p.

I think his point was that on the losing servers, /team is filled with a bunch of people arguing about what to do, half a dozen different people calling out conflicting orders, and another half-dozen or so calling for support at places nobody was supposed to be trying to take or hold. Toss into the mix the people who are sitting in /team doing nothing but complaining about how much the server sucks, and how there’s never anyone around to organize things, and you’ve got a recipe for, well, chaos.
You end up with the forces scattered all over the map, everyone doing their own thing, nobody with enough strength to actually accomplish anything, and no overarching strategy whatsoever.
Last night was particularly fun, as two hours was spent arguing the finer points of whether or not a particular supply point should be taken and held, or just taken and lost over and over again to aggravate DB.
