Isle of Janthir grieving jumping puzzles.
Not personally there but I imagine the only reason we’re camping it is because of the crap SoS were pulling this morning.
Anyway, attacking people doing a jumping puzzle isn’t griefing. You enter into an area of open PvP and you must accept the risks. If you aren’t able to do the puzzle because there are people from an enemy server there you’ll just have to come back another time. It was pretty dumb of ArenaNet to put PvE elements in a PvP activity when they were pretty adamant on keeping PvP/PvE separate from each other.
god forbid one side prevents their enemies from getting free siege equipment in an open battlefield with no rules set.
I fail to see how using anti-player mechanics as intended by ArenaNet is greifing.
The point is, they dont even need to do anything they can just afk and since the area is so small they keep everyone down below in combat, and the puzzle is impossible in combat speed. I’m ok with actively defending it, but not when you can just afk.
I think its more about the fact that the ‘Arena’ section (just past dark room) becomes almost impossible once people set up with siege etc. Any other section is more balanced and entertaining.
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”
I personally think siege should be disallowed in that entire region. Players stopping others with knockbacks and keeping people in combat is fine as you can retaliate, but the siege is over the top. I speak from experience of trying to do the puzzle yesterday (i’m on Isle) and was stopped several times until I gave up and tried later by a group of Aspenwood (I think) with siege in the animal pit.
Though there were plenty of SoS before the dark room just dropping arrows and the odd grenade down to keep people in combat for the jumps, so its not entirely one sided here, all 3 sides are doing it :P
I have seen a lot of players in the Borderlands jumping puzzle basically trolling – not even trying to do the puzzle, but standing near one of the chests and using pushbacks to make people fall. Some mesmers skills are incredibly apt at this, and since those players have their back to the wall, unlike those trying to reach the chests, they are very difficult to counter. Between this and using mesmers’ Portals to quickly move allies up there with them, it may not be an exploit, but it surely is griefing, just as bad sportsmanship is.

I have a feeling this post is directed at me lol. I’m on the ioj server, and my friend and I were doing the jump puzzle. My friend is jump-challenged apparently, so I had to sit and wait for him a LOT while he repeatedly failed easy jumps and started over. Whenever I saw an enemy getting close, I would whip out my LB and shoot them off their rock and into the water below. I know if I let them get close they’re going to kill me, or they’re going to run into my jump-challenged friend (who is already taking too long) and kill him. We were there for at least a couple of hours (at one point I had gone and made dinner, and came back and my friend was still struggling). When I’m trying to be sneaky, I don’t like killing people because a giant “REZ ME” sign gets plastered on the map, so everyone now sees a “downed player” symbol on their map and knows where to find me. By shooting them into the water, it frustrates them and either A) makes them go away for a while or B ) makes them want revenge and they’ll hold off calling in reinforcements because they want to take me out themselves. We eventually got overrun with enemy players and had to hold off finishing the puzzle.

Having enemies near you doesn’t make you go into combat mode. You have to be hit by an enemy or monster to go into combat mode. So if I was standing AFK near the jumping puzzle, nothing would happen to you, and you could get a free kill off me.

I get the feeling people saying this haven’t actually tried to do it.
1 single arrow cart on the roof will keep the entire room in combat while being invulnerable due to range. There is literally nothing the team below can do to get past the animal pit. When one side has a 0% chance of succeeding its a broken game mechanic, not a “valid tactic”.

That’s more or less the same as saying that in soccer it’s a valid tactic to kick your oponent’s legs. The fact something could possibly be done doesn’t mean it’s good sportsmanship.

I was there last night. If you see a balista just outside the dark room, yep I built that. Only to shoo away the FA invaders that broke the truce. About 5 minutes later I went in and someone else probably went on the balista and had a field day though lol.

then they have found a good foolproof way to stop people from getting free siege equipment. if i was the victim, i’d think “dayum, good strategy” and go off and fight on the front lines. cause in our matchup, no one has the time to go do jump puzzles anyway.
i have been camped before in a jump puzzle, it doesn’t feel good, but it’s valid.

I get my free siege about 80% of the time I try. Even when it is defended. The means are there to get it if you find them. Though I have to say, the hardest part to get through is the animal room. Before and after that room is a breeze.
Camping the jumping puzzle is a tactic, not griefing. Jumping puzzle = lots of siege, its tactical. Stopping the enemy from getting the siege is smart.
I don’t personally do this, because it would bore me. But there is definitely nothing wrong with it and I guarantee Anet will not ban people for doing it.

preventing the other team to get mass siege equipment for free, whats the problem ?
Once BOOM guild from Fort Aspen stops flying our orbs away everyday I will quit fear camping the top.
I love it when our mesmers are at the end of the puzzle <3
