It seems people are restacking servers again
Or maybe they’re bored because the game is dying and they are looking for whatever little bit of fun they can squeeze out of the game.
Doesn’t appear that they are doing a very good job as TC is in 2nd place.
Or maybe they’re bored because the game is dying and they are looking for whatever little bit of fun they can squeeze out of the game.
Yup.
It doesn’t matter anyway right now, and this will always exist as long as they keep the individual server vs individual server model.
If mega or alliances don’t happen to squash population imbalances then expect more people to stack for tournaments. I know I will for sure.

Problem with Alliances is, like what happened on GW1, the big guilds will align together and crush everyone else. Forced Alignment will not work either.

I don’t know what Build Wars 1 you were playing, but alliances there worked differently, and largely didn’t have the problems of coverage crushing in a 24/7 game mode.
The “alliance battle” for example was a queued 12v12. If there wasn’t anyone for the other side the battle didn’t start. Many of the pvp-type gamemodes were queues in fact…

And that’s exactly why it should be RvRvR, not server vs sever vs server.
Kinda funny how some people want good coverage on all 4 maps at any time of day or night, yet they keep chest thumping about staying with the individual server model.

Not sure the overhaul will be removing servers. Pretty sure the big “overhaul” which was going to remove servers got scrapped.
I must be the only one who thinks various servers/tiers/guilds stacking for ppt or fights just builds another layer of wvw.
Honestly if I had it my way server transfers would be insanely cheap to encourage people to move around and fight various servers and types of play, but that would be exploited probably.

You’re not.
If I had it my way transfers would go back to being free, and the waiting period between transfers would be increased to 1 month.
This is just ridiculous. Now whole guild, from JQ, have left that server and gone to TC to push TC to T1 and let JQ drop. This is just fair weather type of WvW but the usual for these people who like to manipulate glicko. This basically says, to me, that glicko needs to be scrapped.
Any ranking system could be manipulated by redistributing population. Glicko isn’t the problem, population balance is the problem.
For example, you could have a simple ladder ranking system and it to could be manipulated by moving population around.
So … you know Glicko …

While stacking to create a four server rotation sounds like a way to break up the monotony, all that happens is a tier gets burned down to the ground. The gameplay becomes incredibly, well, the best word is sad.
It does rebuild after awhile. Just another cycle in the erosion of the population.

^this^, the problem is “population balance” or “server stacking”. It’s funny that ANYONE thinks that by moving servers they’ll have fun again. I’ve been on AR since 3-day-head-start, therefore been with the server during it’s ups AND downs. AR once got up to what, T3/T4, now we sit at the very bottom of the barrel again T8/24th! Funny thing is, we’ve had many people leave that ended up just eventually disbanding anyways! I tried to warn people, “you think moving will make things any better”, they didn’t listen, and now they probably don’t even play the game any longer – because if you have any “issues” on one server (say for example internal guild issues), you’re going to have them on ANY server you play on. Sure things being different may keep you enticed for a LITTLE bit longer, but you’re ultimately doomed to quit, just depends how many times you’re willing to rinse lather and repeat before you do.
With that being said, and population balance being the issue; THAT is what NEEDS to be fixed by anet! It wouldn’t matter if everyone from T1 dropped all the way to T8 just to raise up the T8 servers, eventually things will wind up in the same exact place they are now; just with different server names in different “places”!
So why keep rinsing, lathering, and repeating? ANet really NEEDS to stop putting BANDAIDS on this situation too (EoTM, and all these “gimmicks”), they NEED to PROPERLY address population balance before everyone quits!
Although, at the same time – we technically don’t “need” anet to fix this for us, IF we as a community did it for ourselves. Although I think the realistic odds of this happening is about 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% Instead of “server stacking” why don’t all of you “peeps” from T1 – T4 split up and redistribute yourselves to T5-T8? Unless there’s something I’m not aware of, there’s not even any real reason to “PPT” or “win”, it’s a game for crap’s sake, PLAY to have FUN! If you’re not having fun on your outnumbered server, don’t just go add to the stack in a high pop server, start trying to get people to come join yours! if you’re not having fun on your stacked server, don’t just go re-stack another one, disperse yourselves! Although, that as I said is pretty much a dream, I don’t envision us “the community” ever actually doing that on our own, there’s likely a 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance of that happening. So I guess in the meantime we’ll have to wait to see if/what ANET comes up with that will FORCE us to disperse and more evenly distribute ourselves among all of the servers…

yes, moving servers do create problems but it isn’t the only reason why wvw reach this state
i do share the same sentiment that if people did not move server at launch and desperately stack on a few servers when it was announced that the free transfer shutting off. things wouldn’t become so chaotic in days /months/years after. this kind of damage has become irreversible unless anet decide to scrap all servers and recreate them to forcefully consolidate and disperse the population.

I have several accounts on various tiers, one being on JQ.
JQ would have to lose more than just a guild to drop to t2. Even if over night everyone left JQ, it would be month(s) till the glicko adjusted and JQ swapped with someone from t2, which in return would kill t1 before JQ dropped out. The issue with JQ atm is euro/NA coverage (mostly NA).
IMO BG is actually in more trouble than JQ. Unless JQ’s massive sea leaves, JQ will remain in t1. JQ’s issue is far easier to recruit for than BG’s issue.
The game is on life support- in all tiers. The only reason YB does so well is from a few commanders playing everyday for 6+ hours a day. Those commanders leave, YB will be right down there with JQ/BG (or worse).

My guild moved to T5 for various reasons. We moved backed to T3/T2. The primary complaint was the level of activity during not NA prime was extremely low.
Simply put, there was no reason to log in except during NA Prime. Since we are a PST NA guild, that wasn’t going to work for us.
If ANET spreads out the population more without ensuring that there is enough population during off peak hours, the off peak population will disappear. Though perhaps it may be too late anyway and for the NA servers, the best NA can hope for is that NA prime time survives.
as long as none of these “Big guilds” come to Darkhaven, no big deal. We don’t want them, please. We just want solo roamers who can do fractals and dungeons alone, or small guilds of “friends” that like having hard core fun together, that know how to handle a map when it’s empty, and that know how to be a team without being told what to do – no whining…. We want zergs that can break up into massive 1v1’s in the blink of an eye, then group up and take out towers in record time…. we die we res we keep coming back till we conquer…. We’ll train them once they are here… The rest of you big “pvp” guilds can stack all you want to keep things interesting for us. The rest of us “little guys” have a score to settle for you ruining the game with your hypetrain’yness.
Thanks.

It’s funny that ANYONE thinks that by moving servers they’ll have fun again.
Not as funny as the small-town idea that the big city has nothing to offer and is inherently evil.
I’ve been on AR since 3-day-head-start, therefore been with the server during it’s ups AND downs.
That’s cool, but WvW’s server match-making is not equivalent to RvR designs in which a “server” holds the entire tri-realm match. That is what breaks loyalty for WvW, and that is why server pride is a non-fun thing to hold on to in the majority of experiences.
AR once got up to what, T3/T4, now we sit at the very bottom of the barrel again T8/24th!
False. We capped at rank 14, which is T5, and it was then that the majority of our commanders and PPTers were ready to accept the facts that had ended my pptmanding. Then we left, and:
Funny thing is, we’ve had many people leave that ended up just eventually disbanding anyways!
The disbands had nothing to do with the transfers, and would have happened regardless. Your strongest remaining roster is TWIN, which spans most of the NA servers (I’m in it), and it is not a WvW guild.
I tried to warn people, “you think moving will make things any better”, they didn’t listen, and now they probably don’t even play the game any longer
Yes, it made things better. Yes we still play. When we don’t play it is because we’re done with the game itself, and not:
- because if you have any “issues” on one server (say for example internal guild issues), you’re going to have them on ANY server you play on. Sure things being different may keep you enticed for a LITTLE bit longer, but you’re ultimately doomed to quit, just depends how many times you’re willing to rinse lather and repeat before you do.
This is a non-causal observation. It says nothing true about the real dynamics of a WvW guild in GW2.

Lots of conspiracy theories. It amazes me some people still believe there are many guilds left caring about pushing servers up/down or organizing some sort of super secret alliances.
Truth is JQ lost at least 3-5 guilds to BDO, they’re fairly large guilds. No, they didn’t leave JQ to play on TC, they went to a different game altogether. Some people went to TC mostly to find more fights, sure. T1 is in a sad state right now, you can get some better fights in T2 on some nights here and there. To play and compete in T1, you have to out do YB in ppt game, and not many people want to do that right now. It’s just not fun at all at this time when the game mode is so dead, population is down across all servers, and so many have left for other games. The last thing people want to login to is to hardcore siege and play ppt/pvd for hours. But I can tell you there’s no secret alliance or plans to push TC up.
If anything you should be trying to find out what BG is doing. BG right now is an extremely dead server in T1, they are only active during the 2-3 hours NA prime, that’s it. I don’t know the guilds there so maybe they moved to other tiers, or maybe they moved to another game as well, someone else will have to fill you in.
(edited by gavyne.6847)
I think the real reason is so that JQ and TC can 2v1 YB.

Well said.
I’m still in LGN and TM, and if anything they are going even stronger now that they have left AR. Being able to raid without having to carry a dying server on your back removes a lot of the stress from the game.
@ sparc
I’d been with AR since the betas up until a few weeks ago when I finally moved my last alt account off of it. I took a break from the game because HoT turned it into a kitten show and I came back to find AR completely dead. You guys weren’t even using a server TS anymore. The few remaining people were using their own individual voice comms and not working together as a server.
NA prime during the week in T8 is about as populated as 3 am est is for T3. Maybe that’s why you enjoy the deserted bl so much. You don’t have anyone to fight so you like having the oversized dungeon to pve in.
I have no regrets about moving my accounts. A community isn’t locked to a certain server. I have friends playing in pretty much every tier at this point. I’d probably put an account on every tier if anet didn’t make the new specs such a pain in the kitten to grind.

“massive SEA” lol, what year are you in?
Truth is neither BG or JQ are massive in any way any more. If the stupid glicko system didn’t make it so hard to drop a tier there would be a rotation up and down from tier 1-2. Of course that would mean that 5 servers would be exposed to YBs cancer instead of 2.

Believe or not what you described was a thing back before seasons. This lead to server stacking of epic proportions. Also, Anet realized that the best way to monetize WvW players is have them pay to move servers so it’s unlikely to see them give this cash stream up.
Poor JQ isn’t totally stacked and are facing challenges ): I’m sorry to hear of your hardships. Darn, just darn those guilds for wanting to play the game the way they enjoy it, right?!
Champion: Phantom, Hunter, Legionnaire, Genius
WvW rank: Diamond Colonel | Maguuma
I dont want to hear from a T1 or T2 sever complaining about losing guilds when T8 and T9 servers have such a low population that a guild moving there would double their activity!
I used to be a PvE player like you, then I played Guild Wars 2
Shacking servers and transfers is one of the main reasons WvW is on such a terrible state.
The odd part to me is the top points server (YB) has no massive guild and no guild stacking. The game changed a while back at least in T1. Sure YB struggles to compete against organized guilds in open field but its overall decentralized power structure allows it to adapt to general player attrition better.
Running many more havoc groups invariably frustrates zergs because they spend a considerable amount of time chasing smaller groups and losing objectives. Basically if you like to blob fight with big guilds, going against YB has to be annoying as hell. Course Chris going against Sekz in EBG during NA prime is no picnic either.

This guy speaks the truth. I often wreck havoc on enemy BLS to encounter a 30+ man zerg responding from JQ. It’s like they have no havoc or roamers?
many servers are shrinking though T1 will continue to have a lot of people due to refugee from the lower servers. until the lower servers are completely dry up, T1 will still be lively enough to play with.
generally speaking, sea is rapidly shrinking, a lot of people went to play other games. division seems to be gaining popularity in sea.

Lol, what can I say I want to have a four server rotation.
I would bet servers cant handle that, if server limit is arround 80, and most servers cantfit one BL….. 4×60 man group fights, 4way? would make more lag, since
would be a new side would be more calculations to be done in the server side.
And just look already how the game is heavy gimick based, they would had more lame and easy win mechanics, more gimmics(i like to call them placebo solutions to cover the real issue) for party clean each other before starting laggin the server.

4 server rotation in a 3 server match not 4 server match……
I asked before but didn’t get an answer, what JQ guild moved to TC?
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
