Q:
Jumping Puzzle, Harder For Asura?
Several of my guildmates are Asuran and have no problems reaching the end of the EB jumping puzzle. I’ve never heard any of them say anything about certain spots being harder than others re: jump distance/height.
No. I would guess that we are all effectively the same size/shape, with a skin tossed over top. As an asura I have no issues doing any jump puzzle, without speed boosts.
ArmageddonAsh – it’s probably the camera angles that are tripping you up.
Asura can jump the same distance as the other races but the ‘feel’ of it is far more epic (and, therefore, different so there are adjustments to be made as to when to jump.)
I’d suspect some of the camera angles would be a bigger issue for norn or charr.
Mmmmm, if thats the case not sure whats going on but i can barely make any of the jumps and i cant even make it past the first section – the camera is HORRIBLE especially the part after the boulders where you have to jump on the spiked squares it just makes the camera go all crazy
I even take as much as a run up as i can and still not make the same jump that i make 100% of the time on my Human and Slyvari
Its alot easier as an Asuran just due to the fact you can see more. Do some jumping puzzles on a Norn then you’ll be thankful youre asuran
You’ve just become accustomed to human/slyvari who Im assuming are a similar height/build. Asura once accustomed too are easiest, charr is hardest.
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”
Asura look like they won’t make a jump, but they do.
I have learned jumping on my charr, and I am used to the animations and distances. But it changes when you get a much smaller body with different animations. And that is where your difficulty lies. Make sure you are on the edge before you make the jump, else you come up short and fall to your death.
Sometimes I feel that way on my human Ele doing jumping stuff really anywhere in the world if it’s one of the harder ones. She’s the shortest possible height for humans which is only barely taller than the tallest Asura. Certain jumps that are farther or higher or something definitely take a few tries (or more than a few >.<) before I get the hang of it. I often come up too short and it seems my character just can’t go that far but I eventually get the hang of it. Not sure what the reason is for that but I have felt sometimes that my character is just too short lol.
There’s usually an invisible box around the edges of most platforms. For harder jumps, it’s necessary that you jump from part of the invisible box, or land on part of an invisible box (for narrow pegs sticking out of walls). The difficulty to me is, that on an asura character, I am more likely to jump from what I see as the edge of the platform. When I am playing a larger character, the visual of my character is big enough that I don’t even have to think about jumping from the invisible box. In this sense, it is harder for Asura to make longer jumps until you’ve had more experience playing one.
Asura also have a very busy visual while running around and jumping. Your legs move faster than the other races, and you land off balance falling forward. I would sometimes hit the “move backwards” key and cause myself to fall off a platform I just landed on.
I believe that someone with a less active mind would not pick up as many details as I do (relating real life movement with character animations); and they would benefit from playing Asura because of how the behind-angle camera obstructs less. I have historically had better balance (avoiding slip-and-falls) than most people I know, because of my awareness of how center-of-gravity and reorientation of the body affects balance. I still get confused about how the asura stabilizes himself based on me visually projecting where his animation is directing him.
