As many WvW players know, PvE provides players with the ability to equip a number of movement-enhancing tools. I propose that at least one of those tools should be unilaterally introduced to WvW: The jumping rifle used to assist in some vista map completion.

This rifle would allow squads to assault structures without having to rely on siege, by allowing them to jump on or over both walls and gates. This would be the Tyrian equivalent of using scaling ladders to climb heights. Your thoughts?

Before the inevitable landslide of reasons why this is not a good idea, can you perhaps explain why being able to assault structures without siege is a good thing in your mind?

The main reason is to encourage the adoption of a wider range of both defensive and offensive tactics by Commanders. Hey, we can stick to the same-old same-old approach, no problem.

Pve towers usually have their gates wide open, lets do that to wvw so we can just run in and cap everything without worrying about tier3 gates.

No, No, and more No. It is bad enough we have people allowed to portal entire zergs inside a structure, basically allowing groups to bypass the entire sieging process, but this would be completely game breaking and essentially make having structures meaningless.

If you going that route, we might as well be able to cut down the trees and make ladders to scale the tower walls. I want to see people carrying poles by kitten!

In all seriousness, this is an odd suggestion. Thinking of the population imbalance, it would allow a zerg to completely dominate an outnumbered map in very little time.

Why do pve players always come in here and make dumb suggestions on how to ruin wvw even more so they can play wvw as if it’s a pve map? Seriously, you have the silverwastes if you want towers where you don’t have to fight other people and can just jump over walls. How about we add dueling to pve maps? Keep your pve out of my wvw, and i’ll keep my wvw out of your pve. Deal?

The best part is where he starts with “As many wvw players know” Then proceeds to talk about a bunch of pve crap. Does this guy work for Anet? Must explain why he thinks wvw players are pve players. Or that we would welcome any of this BS into wvw.

If you want a wider range of tactics, you have to address the broken tactics. As it stands, placing siege directly against a wall provides the best offense and often the best defense via Line of Sight denial. In situations where this defensive advantage does not exist, we see a much wider variety of siege play because zergs have to take into account that the defenders may be able to counter siege.

Allowing players to bypass the siege altogether would simply be adding a more broken tactic on top of what exists. Everyone would simply shift to using the new most broken thing, resulting in even less variety than what we have now.

Your heart’s in the right place, but I cannot support this method of achieving your goal.

Let’s go the whole way and go the nuclear option with parachutes.

You build a missile using 1000 supply that launches at the enemy keep and completely flattens it and kills all enemies inside. Takes 15 seconds to complete the flight and an early warning siren goes off when launched across the whole of the BL or EB. You can then walk into the ruins and cap it.

You build planes for 250 supply that carry 20 people and drop them off via parachute on the highest point of the structure you pointed it at.

Yes, I can come up with completely stupid ideas for wvw too like the one the OP stated (NB I think these are just as awful as the OP’s suggestion).

Why would anyone need this ever? Is it somehow difficult for you to build siege? You mention ‘squads’ so clearly you want to take your squad to a structure, all jump in with the gun, kill the lord, cap. I mean, IT IS NOT HARD TO PVD AND YOU WANT TO MAKE IT MORE BRAINLESS? No. Man up and take things with siege even if you have to fight the oooh scary people.

Still need to consider simple aerodynamics. All those beefy appendages flailing around will definitely create problems. Wind will be an issue with my plan, air socks will be involved… Crafted by guild scribes from 5000 amalgamated gemstones.

I’ve spent a lot of time in WvW and have fond memories of most of the players that I met in there. I cant say that I’d have fond memories of you should our IPs converge, of course, what with me the PvE scrub and all

Having said that: Ways of suppressing the use of jumping walls and gates could be introduced to the gamemode via structural upgrades. Furthermore, the ability to slow the capture of a control point in a building should have been implemented a long time ago in the form of extensions to “Righteous Indignation” timers. Even something as simple as that would ensure that using scaling weapons isn’t always as profitable as conventional siege.

Afking in spawn to get your gift of battle isn’t playing wvw. Stop making these terrible suggestions. Its quite obvious you are a pver that wants to make k-training easier. Please stick to pve or eotm and stop trying to ruin wvw for those of us that enjoy fighting other players. Seriously, how would you pvers feel if we kept asking for dueling in pve maps? Would you enjoy it if I decided to gank you while you were trying to kill a world boss or something? Keep pve in pve. There are already enough problems in wvw with mesmers who like to hack or exploit their way into structures, then port entire zergs in. You want to make it even easier for them? Defending structures would lose all meaning and it would just become one giant ktrain where people avoid fights. No thanks. terrible suggestion.
