…on making WvW a bit more interesting. Not that I’m saying WvW is not interesting at all. Got addicted to this game mode the first time I got into it. But I’ve been playing WvW for a few months now that I can’t help but notice, after awhile, it’s just gotten repetitive and too predictable. Especially when it comes to tactics as a server, now that we’re seeing match ups that last for more than 1 or 2 weeks, fights sometimes get to a point where you already know what your opponent’s gonna do next and it’s just rinse and repeat after reset. I’m sure WvW vets can sometimes already predict the outcomes of battles. And due to the static terrain, same map types, and for some servers, the same starting locations every week, server tactics, siege placement, zerg maneuvers etc. lack variety. I know commanders in every server work hard developing new strategies to beat their opponents but there’s a high chance that whatever you blue hats have thought of, probably has already been done and countered one way or another. And it’s only a matter of time before someone reads into your strategy. The only thing unknown now in WvW is whichever server in your match up would get blessed(or cursed) with a high population transfer. The rest.. predictable and routine.
Now I know it would be hard and a huge undertaking to set up another WvW map just to spice things up due to its size. And as long as free transfers are out and about, there’s really no way around the population coverage issue. So I was just wondering maybe adding variety in WvW PVE events might do something to alter or break up the repetitiveness of WvW. Put something that would break routine randomly each week, and catch servers off guard and rethink they’re tactics. For example turning a map into a Risen infestation for one week where siege gets attacked and zerg engagements turn into a pvpve with the Risen. Then the next week, maybe every creature in the maps becomes Branded, and the usual pathways to getting supplies or keeps gets suddenly guarded by Dragon minions, etcs. Something like that, make it a tactical nightmare for every server and force people to think and not to keep doing just one thing every time. What’s good and viable to do one day, won’t be viable the next day or the next week or so. I say this because it reminded me of the Orb change. When Orbs were removed there was a change in WvW behavior and it renewed interest and tactics for players. i think maybe if Anet could do something like that without severely damaging the balance in WvW, it would attract more players to this part of the game.
If somebody have post something like this earlier, apologies I didn’t know but oh well this is my first post and just to my 2 cents regarding WvW.
