Gandara
Eno Live (Ele)
Till Anet remove both the Karma and XP from WvWvW the Karma Trains will be lord and master of the place.
The only tactic is at the moment is if a place is going to take more than 10 mins to take move on cap the next easy swift and fast then once done move to the next map in a constant loop.
Anet have simply forgot why they really created WvWvW and have allowed these trains to flourish and expand in such a way that it has made WvWvW an extension to PvE or more to the point every other PvP mass framing game.
Only this weekend my guild and I have camped at a keep fully and yes they have come and fought hard and fast but not for more that 10/15 mins at a time, when they failed they swiftly moved onto the easier targets on the map once all the easy ones were capped they moved on to return 2/3 hours later to recap the easy yet again.
At one point you could even set your alarm for it.
Don’t get me wrong even on my very own server some use the same tactics, and you see it all the time when new players enter the map “Where’s the Zerg”: eg Karma Train.
There are many of us getting really fed up with it. We spend hours and cash building places up and taking the really hard targets that they leave behind, as well as been left to fend for ourselves as they either zerg off in search of Karma or to mop up the mess after been hit by a Karma train because ours was on another map at the time.
But don’t get me fully wrong I know that there are times when a zerg is needed Eg: cap a map as fast as possible or take down a heavily fortified Keep/Castle but come on a mindless Karma train that is only on WvWvW for the Karma and forget about the players whom want a good straight up battle to put it politely.
So in conclusion the main way to stop these trains and because of the kindergarten AoE limit would be to remove the Karma and XP fully from WvWvW and replace it with a little extra cash loot as well as switching the skill point usage of the Siege upgrades to mystic coins instead
Just have small groups around keeps – taking camps or killing dolyaks to avoid boredom – to inform your larger groups of the enemies position*, than just move your larger group and defend the keep – the gates/walls should give you enough time – while trying to kill as many enemies as possible so that they get tired.
Maybe that’s how they do it in Tier 6, but in higher tiers that type of gameplay just means that the zerg will constantly hit defended keeps. Meanwhile we just take their keeps, soon they can just flip supply camps, and even those can be defended by a couple of ballistas and arrowcarts.
*If your server can’t even relay that type of basic information… you’re gonna have a bad time.
Also, at least in my server we don’t have a lot of zergs. What we have is a couple of big groups of coordinated people (some randoms join that’s natural, but they know how to fight). Not every large group of people is a zerg. Sometimes they just group up because that’s a natural human action, frequently – but not always – more advantageous to being alone.

Yeah, you don’t see this too often in higher tiers. There are usually a lot of big guilds and commanders online at most any given time who really take control of the map. In the SoR/BG/IoJ match right now, it’s a pretty awesome sight to behold. A lot of great tactics with back and forth group fighting and epic sieges.
If you aren’t happy with how your server is performing, start organizing. Find or form a WvW guild. Read up on effective tactics and try to teach people.

Hehe how do you think my fellow guildies and I managed to keep the keep we claimed for so long, but it’s heart breaking seeing those that are only in WvWvW for easy Karma and anything remotely related to defending or building things up when things seem a little quite mundane.
But you and I both know that if there’s something people can gain for the least effort they can put into it, they will jump on the bandwagon.
In a way it’s a shame that Anet didn’t make WvWvW like the sPvP part of the game and gave it its very own unique gear and currency
No thanks.
Sitting in a keep for hours is not my idea of fun. Also, don’t know why you expect people to come to your fully upgraded when there are better targets out there. Haven’t you ever read Sun Tzu?
I’m all for camping at keeps and defending them properly. However you’d either need more people on a server to be actively cooperating or less keeps that need defending.
Also why the hate against karma and XP? WvW is an extention of both PvE and PvP and blends them together – Why change that?
My impression of Gandara is that it’s a pretty disorganized server, we have some capable commanders but they’re not always around and we lack any really strong guild presence. E.g. there are regularly large groups of people attacking SM without any kind of plan in mind, which always results in failure.
But I don’t think the reason that people go about in what you call a “karma train” is the fault of there being good rewards for capping objectives. The rewards are what bring a lot of people on our server to WvW in the first place. The way the zerg acts on our server is hardly in a way that maximizes karma/XP rewards, what’s usually going on is that people don’t really know what to do so they follow each other. By capping objectives, they do feel that they’re accomplishing something for the server.
A lot of players on our server don’t use the communication tools, so unless you have a commander icon showing them where to go they won’t know. They’ll stick with a fight that has decent leadership, although most of them won’t sit around a keep if there’s nothing to do. But try, if you can, to at least convince each of them to bring 10 supply to help repair defenses and siege before moving on. Not all of them will catch your message, but those who do will accomplish a lot more than one committed player can in half an hour.
Removing the incentives for playing WvW will just shrink the WvW population, especially on servers like ours. If you really want people to defend, you should suggest scaling up incentives for participating in a successful defense. Reach out to as many casual players as you can to get them regularly following the chat and assisting with defense, but recognize that they’re just not as committed to this game as you are, and that’s what Anet had in mind when they created this game.
Addendum… WvW is for all kinds of players. Casual ones follow the zerg, because it’s safer for them, but there’s lots of things for more committed players to do. We’ve had our share of fun battles, and not-so-fun ones, if you want a lot of really organized fights Gandara is not the server for it. Do your best to teach the others and don’t get too attached to your forts, they disappear every week anyways.

The problem is that you have 4 borderlands and well over 30 targets to attack/defend. There is just way to many objectives so it plays more like an arcade game. Most keeps ive seen taken the attackers are gone within seconds. If you stop to get supply even you are behind the group moving onto the next target. I do like WvW but for me I miss true open world pvp and this is the best pvp in an mmo that I can think of. The game is still new so maybe some positive changes will come about. I have spent 75% of my time in wvw and it is starting to get very boring.
@ SoggyFrog.
Don’t get me fully wrong bud you and I both know that when Gandara is working as a unit it can rock the socks of any server and I’ll bet my house on that, plus if you note its not fully my own server I am relating to but some of the other servers we have faced.
