Kill spam
I disagree. You can have 30 people attacking one person and they would all get the kill. The text would be chaotic.
Also some people obviously do it better than others. For instance, a Meteor shower Ele would obviously rack up a ton more kills than say an ele with water attunement trying to support his team.
We need kill spam in WvWvW. It will help WvWvW be more appealing whether you are in a zerg, small group or solo. It gives an opportunity for players to make a name for themselves. You want other enemies to know your name. I know something so small seems insignificant, but for people who played DAOC can relate. You always knew certain guilds or leaders that led zerg, or elite small groups that were able to handle 2 groups because they all where veterans, and played there roles in a group; which would make the game more exciting and determine to play with them, as well making a name for yourself. Seeing that GW2 is new, Zerging will be main play for now, as time goes bye you will see group getting smaller and becoming more picky about who with who and what gear you got, kinda like seals, special forces, people will get bored of zerging and want more 5v5 battle where everyone is hold accountable who wins base on strategy and not who got more players. I know PVP is out there, but players are evenly matched, WvWvW give you chance to show off your hard to get exotic or legendary gears. Also, player rankings and guild rankings is a must. Rank each Players, overall, and by class would be nice in WvW being rank for each server.

Just so long as it gets its own channel so it can be turned on or off at will. That way those who want it can have it, and those who don’t care don’t have to be spammed with it.

Does nothing to ruin anything, more features is better. If you don’t want to see killspam, I’m sure there would be an option to turn it off. It provides tactical info though that is invaluable to strike teams in WvW.
Knowing where the kill occurred lets you trace teams small enough to not show orange swords, and deal with them.
This just adds another layer of complexity which even the people like you who prefer the higher team-based strategy can use.
As long as it doesn’t add more lag for the larger fights, I’d be happy with this feature.

.. and then there was a lot of ‘oooo’ and ‘amagad’ about what just apeared in guild chat and guildies would start spamming in local and alliance chat about the need to reinforce Caer Benowyc. (yes alliance chat, something else this game needs !) and people over the whole realm would stop what they were doing (up to abandonning dragon raids and stuff) and made haste to the ‘fronteer’

and then there was the huge feeling of personal satisfaction and a cheer of rejoice going through the defenders of Caer Benowyc.

flawwed argument, only 1 person can get the killing blow. seeing 100 people die in 1 second is a wall of text though :p

I don’t see how you can reach such a conclusion simply based on kill messages in map-chat.
Actually they might as well just copy the sPvP system with the kill span on the right side.
I would rather see promotion of the things that don’t intrinsically have glamour like repairing walls etc. I don’t see the need to further promote what is already the most “popular” thing in WvW.

hm, i’m thinking about something i didn’t mention before. i do NOT advocate that a player’s name should apear above his head, but when i click on a player, i want to see his name in the little ‘window’ that displays his health bar and portret icon.
the whole format of what is displayed is just useless in general.
“servername” + “language that server speaks” + “invader/defender” + “guild tag”
is just plain stupid, 2 pieces of the information are worthless. who cares what language they speak on that server and what is the point of the invader/defender thingy ?
“servername” + “class” + “guild tag” would be MUCH more usefull and less info to boot.
if i click on the player, then i want to be given his name.
now, i need to ‘talk’ to my target to know his name which is ridiculous.

OK then… let’s go with the resources spent coding and the resources used on machines for the transmitting of this myriad of data. Let’s talk about lag. I’m sure no one has seen any lag at all on any maps, so there’s no chance this could add to any problems… or is there?

if anet didn’t use a toaster as server and a chimp with a bongo to connect to the internet, it wouldn’t be an issue.
a ‘certain game’ managed all this way better 10 years ago than GW2 manages now.
and i’m not talking about ‘some remote log that most people will disable’, i’m talking about info that is vital/crucial that should apear in ‘/map’.
i’m sure that most people who spend more time in w3 than strictly required to complete a daily would find that info usefull / interesting.
maybe you think that the combat log is also useless info and spam ? lol, i’m annoyed by the fact that the combat log only shows me a fraction of the damage/healing i do/receive. i want to see every tick of every hot or dot in the damage log and i want the damage log to use hours / minutes / seconds, not only hours / minutes.
the text windows allows you to set up different tabs that display different sorts of info. if you think the info is not interesting, then exclude that info from the tab if you don’t want to read the info.
the bandwith argument is a joke from a player pov. even an analogue modem is good enough to receive all the info transmitted by games that transmitted far more info than GW2 does AND run voice com on top. and who still uses an analogue modem ?
the only thing that is bandwith starved is Anet’s upload capacity.

Also warhammer’s “chat servers” are not the same as the game servers. They run independantly, I know this from playing it, and the chat servers could/would go down but you could still play the game.
I totally support the idea of Kill spam w/location and names. As well as Guild claim tags on keeps/towers/etc that you can hover over on the map so you know what’s claimed.

I would love more of the sPvP stuff over in WvW like skill-spam, names showing etc. Sadly Anet seems against this, it seems they feel that anonymity shields people in such a way that those who would normally not touch PvP feel comfortable doing WvW.
They are probably right to a point but they should at least give us the option to show or own names or not. The best times I’ve had in this game are receiving party invites though the loophole with the other side after a few good fights and sharing some knowledge and build info. Yea there are some arshats out there that just talk smack but who cares? The mini e-friendships and rivalries gotten though this are well worth it.

totally agree and it makes Anet’s ‘protect the innocent’ stance somewhat of a joke, isn’t it ? this is the only w3 type mmo that actually allows you to talk (and hurl abuse if you feel like it) to the enemy (via a loophole) !
and yes, i’ve been invited to groups by enemies to talk friendly and i have invited enemies to my group to talk friendly and discuss specs and play style. i haven’t personaly seen any abuse via this system (yet).
in ‘that other mmo that people always seem to mention when it comes to w3" there was no communication whatsoever ingame possible between players from enemy realms. "(playername) says something in a languague you don’t understand" would apear on your screen.

Back then I had a computer from 2003 and did not have any issues with lag.
