I was solo defending a tower a couple of nights ago. My plan was to put a quick repair on the gate before running to the wall to use an arrow cart on the attackers.

Imagine my surprise when I was downed and killed even though the gate was still there. And someone pinned me with the “finish them off” flag!

So I guess that damaged gates are a bit porous?

You can place AoE right in front of gates so the rest of the circle goes through. Guardian’s staff auto attack also hits through gates and even walls (not much, guess you have both be standing exactly in front of the wall on both sides).

Regarding the “Finish”-message, during sieges i tend to attack the gate with my staff to either hit the attackers or those trying to repair and on both sides was able to finish people off if we both happen to be very near to the gate. (That, for certain, doesn’t work through walls)

AoE attacks go through the door.

If a person puts up an AoE on the door the effects are felt on the inside. Hence the red circle also being visible on the inside. Repairing is risky business when people are bombarding a door.
