Killing players should always reward loot
killing a player should at least always reward a badge. i can kill ten people and not get a single pvp badge. I’ve gained roughly 20-30 levels in pvp and still have under 100 badges. that’s just ridiculous.

Indeed, I killed over 400 people, once even 72 without dieing and I got less than 150 badges, most of them from jumping puzzles thought. Makes sense you get honorbadges for jumping but not for actual fighting.
And I didnt forget looting, I got autoloot on and just press F when the option appears.
i just wish that badges when they do drop would just be added to your inventory automatically. I can live without always getting the random loot, but it sucks knowing there are bags rotting on the field with badges in them because im too busy pushing or paying attention to playing well because i can’t loot every single bag because they dont always happen in safe spots to loot them and the range is sooooo tiny to pick them up, etc.

I agree with this. It makes no sense that it’s the only currency that is done this way.
I couldn’t disagree more. When a group of 6 people gets swarmed by an enemy of more than triple their number, and you don’t get honor, good, you don’t deserve it. And this would promote not discourage mass zergs.
I too would like them to have a 100% drop rate and have them be a special currency like karma so you don’t have to worry about looting while you’re murdering.
I have 220 badges and 924 WvW kills (never done the jumping puzzles or any of the PvE bosses in the WvW zones). That’s 4-5 kills per badge. Almost 1000 kills is a pretty decent amount of time in WvW as well, the rewards however do not show for it.

So people in sPvP and DE’s and dungeons always get properly rewarded for the work they put in, but in WvW we don’t get rewarded all the time and you want to nerf it even more? If you only have 6 people defending something and the enemy is that much more prepared than you, they deserve to win and get rewarded for it. If you can’t get your team organized, that’s not the enemy’s fault.
And what about classes that specialise in bigger battles like an Ele? We’re not built for small fights – we’re squishy and with Staff offering such good support and AoE WvW is one of the few places we can really shine. You want to nerf that? Man if you don’t like the way WvW works, you can go do sPvP. Winning in WvW is about the overall strategy and organization but you are always going to have big battles, it’s the nature of the game. Many people enjoy it.

Increasing badge drop rate would actually do the opposite. It would promote small scale battles more since zerg vs zerg battles, out in the open without siege, almost always end in a stalemate with hardly any kills at all. Everybody just rezes each other.
Atm, the rewards for WvW focus completely around sieging undefended towers/supply and killing PvE boss monsters. Killing in PvP currently does not give you significant rewards, which is odd to say the least.

No in sPvP you get points and glory attributed to your character for various actions taken in the match and in DE’s you get gold and karma. Both are currency just like badges are currency, but they go right into your bag (one issue) and they are rewarded more constantly and properly for what you did than badges are in WvW.
Right now badges get rewarded in a seemingly random way, it’s hard to figure out what earns you a badge and if that action will earn you a badge every single time you do it. It’s inconsistent and not even spread out properly among various actions you can take in WvW (like killing people). And the fact that it doesn’t automatically go into your inventory is also an issue, albeit a separate one. I just want to be properly rewarded for playing, that’s all.

Where I do think honor should work like karma, if you don’t think that making it 100% honor drop would absolutely turn into a who can field a bigger zerg fest and farm the smaller groups pretty much wiping out solo and small group play completely I’ll have to just agree to disagree with you there.

Well there’s an entire thread on the topic, 2 pages so far with conflicting reports. So there is definitely an issue and a lot of confusion on badge rewards.

Sorry, I didn’t realize you were talking about the currency and not the loot. in that case I completely agree.

Still doesn’t change the fact that some people are doing it wrong. If I had to guess people are probably tapping targets and not doing enough applied damage to get rewarded. After countless hours of doing WvWvW I’ve come to the conclusion that you need to do a % amount of damage to a target; dependent on the damage of what the other attackers are doing.
For example if 50 people hit a defender 1 time and he dies, they all get a chance to get loot. If 3 people are attacking a defender and 1 person does 90% damage and the other 2 do 5% damage each, then the person with 90% applied damage has either A) the sole chance to get loot, or B ) a higher percentage of getting loot then the other two players.
In the end… Do more damage to the targets you’re hitting. Get a ballista or an Arrow Cart and watch the loot pile up. I gotta jump of mine all the time just to pick up all the bags lol.

The game should use the “damage done” ratio for loot in this situation.
However, for me, Im not upset about not getting loot while in zergs. Im upset with all the times I solo (ie: 1v1) someone, and get NOTHING for it. That… is broken.
50 people zerging 1, shouldnt ALL get badges.
However
if 1 person, manages to kill 50 people solo, he should get badges for ALL 50 of them.
The simple solution is to make it so that you have to do at least 33% damage, or be the top 3 damage dealers, to get loot. This means the following:
1 vs 1 = Always get a badge
2 vs 1 = Always get a badge
3 vs 1 = Always get a badge
4 vs 1 = Chance you may not get a badge
5+ vs 1 = even less chance of getting a badge
Right now, its just outright broken. 1 v 1 people all night long, and my ratio of kills to badges is about 8 kills, for every badge drop.
Anet has shown the math in the game code can be broken (just look at dungeon reward diminishing returns, or play around with adjusting the copper amount when you buy gems via game currency, and laugh when lowering the copper by 1 makes the gem amount go UP instead of down). Im willing to bet that the math behind the badge drops is currently “not working as intended”.

If they are using a formula based on who does the most damage than it’s a seriously flawed method. You’ll just have everyone going for max damage specs instead of trying to do something more useful to the team as a whole. I’ve seen other games do that and it never works out well. We need to promote team work, not solo hero dps machine tactics. Although if that’s how it works then it makes sense – as a Staff Ele I’m not doing massive single target damage…. >.<

Actually you won’t do as much damage compared to a balance build or other builds because you’ll be dieing to fast. 1v1 sure you’ll do fine, but in larger scale battles you’re going to drop like a rock. Berserker builds are better for sPvP, but balance builds are better for WvWvW imo.

The point is that you’ll have people trying to farm for badges instead of doing what’s best for the team. If you reward people properly for what they’re doing, then you don’t have to worry about that.
