Lack of response for underpopulated servers
They fixed the population issue for PvE by introducing megaservers. So you can’t claim they are ignorant of the problem.
It’s just that a solution for WvW will require a more intricate solution, which is surely “work in progress”.
Even ANet has to admit that WvW is too reliant on coverage to ensure any real competition. The scoring system is flawed and the population differences on server too severe to ensure fun and exciting matches.
I’m sure at some point, especially if the game continues to bleed population (as any MMO does while it ages), ANet will give up the static server system we have currently.
Instead I imagine they will group you up into different leagues of some sort with each league having a similar population.
You’ll probably be able to stick with your guild and friends if you join the same league but servers as entities are slowly going to disappear.
You have alienated everyone who didn’t transfer to higher population servers and did nothing to make sure that everyone had a fair chance of fighting.
This isn’t true. I’m one of the people who didn’t transfer to a higher population server, and I definitely do not feel alienated.
“disillusioned” is something completely different.

I think everyone here understands there is no work being progressed. Even if there was, ArenaNet’s utter refusal to communicate and total lack of consistency and focus means it doesn’t matter.
I’m not sure how you can have such a positive outlook. We’re going to go into Living World season 2 having gotten no WvW content or quality-of-life updates, so the one chance they had to actually do something will be gone, and maybe in a few years we’ll get different colored commander tags or something equally simple that could have been knocked out in a week.
They really need to work on their playerbase communication. We’ve got bugs sitting for years with absolutely no dev interaction, a ton of threads posted about the same issue because either a dev has never said anything or they said something 8 months ago and it’s sitting in the back of the forum, and a terrible lack of consistency for the things they actually leave a message for.

When I’m in my home borderland during primetime and see 6 defenders against multiple 40+ player zergs I feel alienated, not disillusioned.

100% this. Don’t know why there are so many people who, knowing Anet’s history with WvW (and dungeons and sPvP), still insist that good things are being worked on and will be coming soon.

I’m sure you do, but I don’t, and even if I were feeling alienated it wouldn’t be Arenanet making me feel that way but rather all the people on my server who left (and in that case I would only feel that way if they had left while implying that I was not welcome to go with them, which they did not do because they are stand-up folks).
so it’s not true that Arenanet is making everyone feel alienated. they are just making you, and perhaps a few others, feel that way. statistically, based on samples from this thread, the number of confirmed alienated players on low-population servers is only 50%.
remember, you are not a “low population player”. Arenanet doesn’t have anything against you personally, just because you choose to play on a low population server. you are a “player” and like every other “player” you could easily have transferred to another server; nobody is stopping you except yourself.
there is no “high population player” club that you are being excluded from, you don’t need to feel alienated, you are absolutely welcome to join them (except on HoD, they don’t want you there, see their post on the WvW recruitment forum).

Whilst I can appreciate that some people may not share my sentiment, from what I’ve gathered from the conversations I have both had and witnessed on my server, there are a great many players that share my view.
I disagree that arenanet had no hand in the stacking of servers and creating this situation where people that did not transfer to other servers cannot realistically play WvW, they removed the gem cost before hand enticing players to swarm together and did nothing to regulate the numbers of active WvW players per server.
And the argument of “you could have moved server and still can” is rather absurd, the problem started with everyone transferring when it was free to do so for an easy win instead of staying and fighting. Transferring now would mean paying to contribute to that problem, hypocritical and doesn’t solve the problem in the long run.
And I’m not feeling alienated because I didn’t transfer and am somehow envious of the higher populated servers, I believe you misunderstood, I feel alienated because I chose not to stack servers and instead fight for the one I was on and arenanet did nothing to ensure that the servers were evenly matched for the tournament.

who cares spvp is so much better now anyways, bb blobs.
I share the OP’s sentiment and I’m on one of the heavily populated servers.
Here is the problem; low populated server is a subjective term based on the servers your facing. On TC, we are not a low population server, neither is JQ and neither is BG. SoS, Mag, and DB are not low pop servers either, but in the eyes of the top 3 they are certainly a lower population than the above 3.
I think anyone would agree than when they log onto WvW, they’d like to be able to go in there with something to do; not see the entire map their color and not see the entire map the enemies color. Anet I believe did say at one time they had no intention of making WvW fair, though I’d hope that meant more towards 2vs1 rather than population.
They have a number of things at their disposal to at least weather the storm both on coverage and PPT.
Coverage:
Reduce the population cap of each map to at least 70 (if not 60). Outside of reset night, you will rarely see a que across all maps. Even on both TC and BG (I played on both), you wouldn’t see it. One map was always outnumbered or borderline, and another could never muster enough players to even make an attempt on either keeps or Garrison.
My proposal: Keep the population cap at 100 on Friday’s. Sat & Sun, reduce to 80. Mon to thurs, reduce it to 60. Most would ever notice the difference. Guilds rarely seem to run more than 20-25 members at a time so they would not be affected by this in any way.
PPT:
Split the match into 3 matches based on time. 24 hours in the day would give birth to 3 separate PPT scores. Midnight to 8, 8 to 4, and 4 to Midnight. When the server clock hits the new time, the other PPT score is displayed on the screen while the other 2 are frozen.
The only way your server “wins” the match is to either win 2 or 3 of the PPT scores. Meaning that those with massive coverage in one area but lack in the others have a decent shot of either making a tie or loss. Those with great coverage then will probably win that PPT score, but if they fail on the other 2, too bad so sad.
If Anet takes this route (which I hope they do), it would certainly throw a wrench into how guilds would transfer. How exactly do you know which server to try and stack on? Are they going to go to a server that will more than likely lose 2 out of the 3 PPT scores? Probably not. Are they going to stack on a server with overwhelming coverage in one area? Probably not, not unless they like massive que times. One day a server might have dominant coverage in one area, but abysmal on the next.
It literally makes it impossible for a guild to transfer to a stacked server to guarantee a win. This is why I prefer this method.
