Leagues need shorter matches.
+1 I like the idea.
If only servers were balanced… but thats another topic.
I think this is an amazing idea.
I am in SF (ranked 19) and we are currently facing YB (ranked 14), and as the week goes on, less and less people have been entering wvw each day from our server, while it seems like they are getting more fair weathers each day. It is pretty demoralizing when after the first day you realize that you have zero chance of winning and have six more days of enduring karma-train after karma-train while watching what little wvw population you have shrink before your eyes.
Also, a three day matchup would lead to some pretty intense battles, since servers will only have a few days to establish a lead.

Yes please. This would help a lot. In addition, reset day is the most fun day of the week in WvW. Those first few hours after reset are the only time the three servers are balanced. I’d like that to happen 2x a week.
this has actually been suggested before although I don’t believe 2.9 days has. Would be interesting to have differently-timed resets.
i don’t see one reason why a week is necessary. in a competitive match it would be, but how rare are those?
I could go for this. It would make those blowouts less annoying.

And here in lies the problem.
ANet only see numbers, it does not distinguish an avid WvW player from a PvE player. When the match is a blowout the WvW players stop playing but the PvErs come in to karma train, well the PvErs outnumber the WvWrs.
Truth be told, more people play in a blowout karma train match than play in a fair equally balanced match. Our devs see blowouts as a good thing.

I think if anet insists on proceeding with the idea of leagues, we definitely need shorter matches. Being stuck with a lopsided match for an entire week is pretty demoralizing.
Whereas having new opponents to fight every couple of days might be pretty fast paced and interesting.
Sure, you’ll get cases where certain players would be completely unable to participate in certain matches due to RL commitments, but that might be an advantage as well – some matches might be an upset because coverage over the week is not even.
I think 2.9 days might be a good duration for a match. The .9 is to make reset times vary with each match, so different time zones can participate in post-reset gameplay.
+2
I wish Rieselle and some of the other people on the WvW forums were decision makers at Anet. Good job, Rieselle!
Lol rank 19 getting beaten by rank 14 server boohoo. In EU its been rank 1 servers against rank 12 and rank 14 servers and we kitten loved that match up tbh. There was constant action wherever u go =)
Also in EU 5 rank difference ain’t blowout.
5 rank difference aint that big either. 5 rank difference is weekly thing in EU and nobody cry about it like peeps in NA.
Well thats the difference between NA and EU. EU seeks for fights while NA seeks for PPT game.
I say hell no for shorter match ups for leagues. 1 week is just fine how it is.

You have absolutely no idea how NA servers operate or the competition gap between our servers. Also every time one of your T1 servers has dipped down to fight a T3 server over the last couple months they obliterated it.
Course in your region you get three league divisions so I guess there isn’t as much to complain about.

Rieselle! What’s up dude? Yeah, seems like a good idea to me, if we have to leagues at all that is.

Hi Martin
Well, sadly no-one answered my question:

I wanted to spark discussion on what leagues offer and whether people really want them.
This is a bad idea in my opinion. The number of people on during the weekend vs. weekday is very different due to work/school etc. 1 week allows for everyone to be able to play each matchup the amount of time they wish. Lets say someone can only play on weekends due to a busy schedule, should the game inhibit them because of that?

The person who can only play on weekends can play just as much as they want regardless of the matchup length. Is it so desperately important that they get a chance to participate in each and every matchup? So much so that you’re willing to trap everyone in a terrible matchup for a whole week?
Not to mention, what about the people who can only play on weekdays? At the moment they have zero chance of ever experiencing post-reset gameplay. With shorter matchups in the way I described, they might have a chance every now and then.
I’ve also mentioned that having different groups of players being available for different matchups (due to weekend, time of reset, etc) makes the matchups more varied and can allow upsets to happen. So the “negative thing” you mentioned has a positive flip side to it.
This would be a positive change, especially staggered reset times. It might lead to less transfer gem sales though, so could be a hard sell to get anet to implement it.
The more unbearable the matches, the more gem sales from players transferring servers.
Shorter matches, not a chance.
