I’ve never understood why they did this, but we need to be able to change the color of our tags without dropping squad.

This happens a lot, a tag will move from one bl to another and the bl they moved to already has a commander with the same tag color and the only way to change it is for the commander to drop squad, change it, and rejoin.

It isn’t that this is a difficult process, but when you are rushing to save a keep you can’t afford to slow down that much. Why can’t we just change it?

There was a dev response to this a while ago. Went something like this: If commanders are changing their colours it will confuse the playerbase.

So basically the idea is: Some1 new hopping into wvsw needs the ‘pieces of the mode’ to be static rather than dynamic in order to learn it easily and feel at home and all that jazz. Having a couple tags that keep changing their colours on the map is very much against this kind of philosopy.

Such responses kinda give you the rationale behind most of the wvsw gamemode design. All the mechanics of the mode are designed for casuals. IT isn’t a wargaming mode….its a run and gun mode where the player has free choice in how they want to play it (and no that isn’t a good thing lol).

I mean you should probably be happy you have 4 colours. That you can choose any of those 4 colours when you ‘want’ to tag. That they didn’t force you to pre-choose 1 permanent colour out of the 4 that you are stuck with each time you tag as a specific toon (I’m honestly surprised they haven’t done this since it would make identifying the same commander easier if they are always a specific colour). And that they allow you to remake the squad as a get-around….like how they allow you to talk to enemy players by blocking whispering and unblocking (i’m sure we are alllll thankful for this).

I really want to be able to have tags with the guild logo on them. You would be able to know which guild is where without knowing every alt of every single of their commanders. I know many people who would pay a hefty amount for that

Not only should you be able to change color ( as squads are color coded for their purpose and actually NEED to change colors according to their purpose to allow everyone to know what they are doing) they also need for you to be able to tag down without leaving squad as well.

Often tags are color coded due to what they are doing, though this may vary by server some use this system:

Red= scout
Blue= Map pin/ Pugmander
Yellow = guild raid
Purple = Mesmer/ Dual pin/ Backline Command

So if you are having a guild raid then then take over as map pin, you have to leave squad to do so. If you want to hide your pin because of pin watching, you can’t do that either. ( which is stupid)

I like that whole “attach a role to a color”!

Since, as you mentioned, it may vary from server to server how about this:
The Kommander (and his Leutenants, if he needs to delegate it in a hurry) is able to set a short message (like a LFG descripion) about what he is doing, that is displayed on mouseover. (like: “Public Zerg; Free join”; “Mobile | may jump a lot”; “Scout; no join”)
So: A player comes to WvW (new or exp) during peak time and sees 3 lamps on the map he can just quickly scroll through them and join accordingly.
This would even work outside of WvW, like in HoT-Maps.

I don’t really understand why you can’t make your tag whatever color you want. The color scheme is a server decision and should not be predetermined. I’ve been on a server where the color dictates the role of the commander but 4 is simply not enough to encompass all the roles that are available.

Yes, they are supposed to be coming out with more colors sometime.. But you know, everyone is going to fight over having the pink tag once they do.

I’d pay 300 gold for blank icon and a drop down panel with all available colors in the game.
