Level up -> full hp/knockback..
It’s a pretty rare occurrence from my observations, but yes, it’s quite annoying when it does happen once in a blue moon. Losing a fight because of something that is more or less completely out any player’s control is just poor design. But like I said, this problem is so rare that I doubt Anet would even bother to consider looking into it as a problem, especially since it’s only an issue in WvW really… which Anet hasn’t paid attention to in a long long time.

It’s even worse when you down a player on top of a wall or cliff and the level up knocks you off so you die from fall damage.

Is this still going to be the case after HoT? I mean since there will be no more XP over 80.
It’s actually fairly common in large zerg fights. With over a hundred players on the field and lots dying on both sides there is a lot of exp going out, and I’ve seen several in a zerg level at once before (presumably when an objective they had tagged had an event end).
The heal to full part is fine (or tolerable anyway) but the knockback/launch effect is way over the top. It’s pretty lame in PvE most of the time as well. It’s rare that a random AoE knockback is useful. It’s also annoying in that the animation cancels skill channeling and interrupts combat flow.
I’m also wondering about HoT and potential changes to things like this effect, but so far the RNG of beta access hasn’t been in my favor…..
Its a fun mechanic which mixes things up. I like it.

That happened to me once. The guy sent me a message saying I should quit playing because I suck too much, go figure =/
I killed him again later though
I, too, still don’t know why this bullpoopy remains in the game. I imagine it’s the same reason all the moas, drakes, bears, rabbits, wolves, coyotes, and the like are left to infest the general WvW area.
Actually, it’s a potential issue in pve as well. Uncontrollable knockbacks are often hindrance to a dps bomb and the less astute will always blame the ranger.
I understand it’s a cool looking effect, but the novelty wears off after the 50th time, and this mechanic really just does more harm than it helps.
In general, sometimes random mechanics can add flavor to a game, however, in this case we really don’t want that many elements that are outside player control. This is of course assuming that we want skill to be a prevailing factor, and despite this being WvW, I would hope that we could at least pretend a little.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
Do those “Gain one level” scrolls work in combat? >:-)

They did work a while ago, but Anet put an end to that.

Good, really I don’t see it as too much of a problem, so much so that I don’t think I’ve ever seen it happen in small groups or roaming. I may have and just assumed it was a rally and heal, never been knocked back though.
You’d think they could just suspend the function in WvW, but since they can’t fix ranger pets auto attacks without breaking the game, it may be more difficult than we think.

You cannot use leveling scrolls in wvw for this reason- Anet did suspend the use in wvw (on purpose) because of the complaints about players exploiting it.
yeah, after downing this ele, he got the keep capture event and he got back from down state and knocked me down to take some serious fall damage…
