Leveling From 2-80 in WvWvW
I just did it with an ele actually. Started back in November, reached 80 about 2 weeks ago…nothing but WvW from 2 up.
Early on I manned a lot of siege, rezzed a lot of people, carried a lot of supply, and did nothing but zip in, try to knock people down, and zip out.

It’s a lot of fun imo. If you have karma to spend the invader gear is great and makes you pretty op. it’s basically what ever lvl u buy it at so I’ve been upgrading it every 10 levels. As for money, well my main had lots so I can’t say if its realistic to make it monetarily, but the fun is well worth it.
Currently doing this with an ele, although I’ve done her story quests as well so I guess it isn’t 100% WvW, lol. But I find I get about 1-2 levels or so on quiet nights, but if there’s a lot of action sometimes 3-4. It’s a ton of fun, and I feel you learn the class much more thoroughly.
Have done this, if you really enjoy WvW it is fun. It is a bit slower than leveling via PvE.
I’ve been leveling 6 toons in WvW. My first and main was Mesmer. I’m not sure what class would be best but I can say I would not pick a Mesmer again if I had to do it over. I just felt really underpowered as a Mes compared to the others I’ve tried.
I think I liked Guardian and Ele best (at low level at least). Ranger is fun too. Never tried Necro or Engi.
I’ve leveled 5 characters solely on WvW and some crafting. It doesnt really matter which class you play; if you are in a server which runs in a zerg, just follow the zerg around, stay back a little so you dont die straight away, and then just follow around capping keeps and towers.
I’ve has days where I’ve gained over 10 levels in a night, but on bad night I’d be lucky to gain even 2 levels.
So it really does depend on how well your server is doing. Though I did find leveling a thief to very irritating, guess it’s nto for me, but then noone told me all I needed was a dagger and just spam 2 :P
Remember to buy the officially endorsed GW2 Steel Series Keyboard, it supports macros!
WvW, we only care if it affects the servers we play on.
If you have a guild with willing members, you can flip supply camps all night and leveling goes fairly fast.
WvW isn’t a bad way to level otherwise, but its not the best unless you are indeed flipping stuff.
I AM BEST!
Thanks for the input! From what I’m reading I guess its not going to be nearly as brutal as I thought it would be, which is good.
I chose at random (excluding engi of course) and ended up with a ranger, so I guess my journey begins.
Thanks again for the help
I have done 3 characters from 10-80 mostly in WvW (some crafting, a little PvE here and there, but mostly in WvW). Just accept the fact that you will die a lot and it isn’t that bad. If you get in with a zerg or a camp/tower capping group, you can fly through levels pretty quickly.
Playing a various Stormspire alt – if it’s Stormspire, it’s probably me

Best advice I can give is try to stick with the zerg if possible and if you can find a good commander that turns objectives alot, he’s your new best friend. Always be in a group if possible and if you can be in a group with real lvl 80’s you will lvl faster and see more loot. Try to tag as much as you can ie AOES, and get some extra bag space quick, because you don’t want to have to leave a great zerg to sell crap every 3 minutes.
Have found the “sweet spot” for levelling in WvW is around level 50. Before that, your gear and spells/specs aren’t really that powerful enough to make a dent .. but for whatever reason, after 50 the xp gain is significant. I have taken two toons through WvW this way and typically, with very VERY casual gameplay, I can get my level 50 toon to 80 in about four days.

He would be better off buying greens every 10 levels or so. The invader armor is overpriced IMHO even at low levels whereas greens are really cheap. Plus that way you save your karma to get an orr set at 80.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
I did this with all 8 professions. Greatsword Guardian was the easiest.
I have done this for 2 characters (well second one at 71 currently), and just doing PvE here and there for daily kill variety (though you can get it in WvW too thanks to rangers) and skill points. Also some crafting, but I don’t have to leave WvW for that.
Did this on thief and warrior, warrior scaled very well at all levels even as I was learning the class. Thief is easy if you are already familiar with thief. Roll a few rounds of sPvP to get comfortable with your weapon set and build, then dive right in.
I’m an insatiable altaholic that has 18 separate characters atm. I can state quite confidently that ALL CLASSES can do this quite fine.
Things to keep in mind for low level alts leveling in WvW:
1. Different builds mature at different times. Some builds really need certain traits, skills, or dual stats to be effective. Learn the effective ranges of each build and be fluid as you level.
2. Acknowledge your weaknesses. As a lowbie you will not be quite the threat you will be at higher level. Play accordingly. This alone can increase your threat level 10 fold. Yes, this means less solo rambo and more team play and focus firing (which you should be doing anyways you rambo wannabe),
3. In theme with the last one, remember you can be quite valuable as bait or a distraction. If harder hitting people are around and you know you can buy them a fair amount of time to take someone down then prioritize THEIR safety over yours. You’re more likely to get the kill, rewards, and a rez if you need it.
4. Siege siege siege siege siege siege siege. Oh, did I say siege? I meant siege. Siege is useful no matter what your build, level, etc and low levels using siege well allows higher levels to be actively fighting. Also, there is no faster way in this game to rake in kills than a properly placed siege weapon. No level 80 can outrun your kill count with siege weapons used wisely, especially in defense.
5. Harvest, sell, and in general make sure you keep current gear in green quality. Yellow is a foreseeable option if affordable later but green is the absolute minimum. Weapons and armor should stay within 10 levels of you if at all possible.
6. Get some running mates. Having team mates you enjoy to romp and hang with makes you more effective, allows you to play to their play styles, and makes your trip much faster.
7. Keep an eye on what is going down. Be there for as many defenses and takes as you can. Unless you are working with guildies or something.

Did this on a Mesmer, was alot of fun, and wasn’t frustrating at all. Actually the only frustrating part was hiding in a keep successfully only to realise, you have no portal yet.

Fair enough. I did it this way because I have 2mil+karma on my main and it didn’t seem an issue.
I went 2-80 on 2 characters in WvW after getting to Valor rank 40 in sPvP and Tourneys,
My mesmer took a weekend and got 200k Karma-13 gold
My warrior took a week, but I was in a guild that wasn’t real good at staying alive at the time. Strangely enough, it ended up with the same amount of Karma and gold but got a lot more bags obviously since my mesmer is more a support type and I never ran in groups but maybe 2-3 hours. A lot of just moving around finding groups that were effective
All were on Blackgate when we were T2 and dominating, It all depends on how many keeps and such you take
Mesmer/Warrior/Thief/ele
Totally possible. I loved doing PvE on my ranger but when I tried to level my thief PvE was just toooo slow. So I met a nice commander who enjoys flipping EVERYTHING in Eternal Battleground. Went from lvl 30 to 80 in 4 days, doing only WvW and crafting one profession to lvl 300ish.
And I’m glad I did that because ended up shelving her. So it was a good thing that I didn’t spend a lot of time leveling her.
I’m gonna do the same thing with a guardian now. Can’t wait to gear her up and get her ready to WvW ^^
The mention of the level fifty picking up speed is spot on, that’s right about where both of my characters began not only fitting their boots but loot seemed to normalize as well. Don’t just ride the train to 80 though, try all of your skills and mess around with your build along the way and pick fights you know you’ll probably lose once in awhile.
