I have heard people claim to go from early levels to level 80 playing only WvW. I’m not an experienced player, but so far my experience has shown that it’s difficult to gain XP playing WvW compared to normal leveling procedures.

Is it a plausible strategy to level up in WvW? If so, what are the different methods used?

Is it possible? Yes. Killing players/npcs gives you experience, and the various events (defend/assault tower/keep/whatever) give a decent amount of experience, karma, and coin.

Is it ideal? Absolutely not. Running around and doing map completion/dynamic events will give much more xp much faster.

I did 40-80 in wvw on my elementalist and have just started a guardian whom I intend to spend even more time in wvw with. That doesn’t mean just killing players, but rather taking advantage of everything the wvw zones have to offer. Gather every node and use the mats for crafting for xp, kill out of the way mobs/packs that have max xp bonus because no one kills them, do the veteran mini events, do as many point captures, camp takes, and supply dolyaks as you can. Also get in on as many larger objectives as well. And of course, go for every player kill you think you have a shot at.

If you try to level off just pvp, it’s going to be extremely slow, but if you do everything there is to do in the wvw zones, you can level up at a pretty quick pace while completely ignoring the pve zones and getting some good fights in to break up the monotony of leveling.

It’s possible for sure.. I leveled to 68 all in wvw in about 3 weeks.

I did 10-80 from launch almost purely in WvW. Why? Because I like RvR. Is it the fastest? I don’t know, and honestly, don’t really care. I find it more enjoyable than the pure PvE experience.

I leveled from 40-80 in WvW

I would say that its harder now as theres alot of lvl 80’s defending when at the beggining everyone was farming gates without defending to level really fast

WvW is only good for lvling when the other servers have gone to bed and your server has a zerg and about to run a night cap

I level mostly only in WvW with my characters so far to the degree that I’ve not even seen more than 2 PvE dungeons with one character.
I generally take my class(es) to WvW from L11 or so and basically just do that.

It can be slow(er), but it can also be fast(er) depending on how the action is any current day.
So PvE is perhaps more consistent, but if you partake in flipping sentry/camps/towers/keeps … and kill people AND defending same – you can get a huge load of XP and Karma from it.

And no – the other server does not need to go to bed. You just need to not run into the middle of the enemy zerg thinking you can wipe them all on your own.

On top of this – it’s a whole lot more fun than wacking mobs for paltry heart quest rewards – plus you get to learn your class early for WvW.

I leveled 3 chars 20-80 in WvW and to me it was very fast.. I took the occasional break to do pve and it was way slower then what I could do in WvW and went right back to it.

You just have to know how to work it I guess for it to be fast.

Here are some examples of some super fast exp in WvW—

Find a tower near a supply camp that is being trebbed by the other team, a great and common example is durios in Eternal Battlegrounds. Run supply back and forth from the camp to repair walls at the tower, 3 repair runs earns a gold medal for the defend event.

Find a group of 3-5 people hitting supply camps and run with them.. If your server is assaulting a tower or a keep, get in on it.. Especially keeps give tons of exp..

Get on a siege weapon at a keep being attacked, again keeps offer the best exp from the events. You need to get kills or repair walls to get credit though which is why I recommend being on a cannon or arrow cart or something, though depending on your class you might be able to score kills yourself even as low level.

Go Yak hunting, pretty decent exp especially if you run with a small hit team and do it quickly.

Do the storm events whenever they pop up in the BL’s (the axe things in the lake in the middle). The middle one you might need some help with you, but the other three are as simple as swimming around collecting pearls (though you can kill krait to do them also).

Basically, take advantage of as many ‘events’ as you can and don’t waste time being in large back and forth field battles as it is a waste of time if what you’re after is leveling.

I went from 30-80 in roughyl 60 hours doing just wvw early on in the games launch.

I have a friend who has been in WvW purely since joining and last I checked is in level 70 in about 2 weeks (all of the rest of us had hit 80 via WvW/PVE so he wanted to be around friends).

The fastest is in Eternal Battlegrounds on a competitive matchup where you follow the zerg constantly flipping supply camps / sentries / towers.
