Leveling via WvW?
It is “viable” as in its feasible but it would take a while.
yes it is. I know many people who have done that. Though I would suggest getting to level 10 in PvE before heading into WvW, youll still die a lot but you wont feel quite so helpless.
Some tips:
- run with the main force, at lower level youll need the support numbers give you
- siege engines dont care about level, man them.
- repairing walls/doors, while boring. gives good XP and income during an attack. its vital work that will help you level.
- small ninja teams for camp takes work great for XP but keep in mind that at lower level your contribution to the teams hitting power will be relativly low.
expect to die a lot, dont expect to win (m)any 1v1’s
Have fun and good luck!
Possible, but not practical, in my experience. It’s extremely slow, and not steady.
From lvl 20-80 i spent a TON of my time in WVW, but i mixed in some main quest line and some map completions in PVE.
Repair as much as you can when you are a lowbie because it provide good xp. You can also level a lot by following a zerg while capping points.

It might be slower than PvE, but you’re like me and not really into playing through the whole PvE game again yet, WvW will certainly be more entertaining.
Do your server a favor though, and try to save alt leveling for weekdays.
No sympathy for the Devil, keep that in mind.

I would not recommend WvW until lvl 30.
You will be at a skills disadvantage and wont be doing enough damage to get loot until then. Perfectly viable beyond that point.

Meh, if you’re willing to mostly be a supply mule, I’d say you can start at 10. Especially if the difference is an extra level 10and no player at all. Peetee’s right though, you won’t be anywhere near competitive till 30, but even then you’re at a disadvantage. It’s all a matter of degrees.
And remember, all the way through 79 you’ll have a “Gank Me” sign next to your “level”.

I leveled entirely in WvW from lvl 26 to 80 in a manner of days.
but to do it you def need an ideal situation. if you are in a group that moves quickly from supply camp to camp (or tower to tower if large enough) there is no other exp grind that can compare, or as fun imo.
however it needs to be in a BL/EB that is mostly held by an opposing sever, whose presence is big enough to backcap you but small enough that they never wipe your zerg.
so idealy a small or dead server that is being dominated but you have a consistent group big enough to take a tower/camp in a decent amount of time.
Thanks for all the replies everyone. Greatly appreciated.
Don’t go with a stealthy build to level up with. I tried that with my thief because all the cool kids were doing it. Sure you can run around hiding and getting backstab on a target, but in a group you won’t do enough damage to get credit. Leveling any professional in wvw you need to put out dps, preferably in aoes. Once you get to 80 you can decide if you want to keep that role or switch to support.
On both my thief and mesmer I went with condition builds. But I don’t think it is necessary to do that.
I rolled in WvW after ~lvl 15, got 80 in about 4 days.

If you have a speed boost get a team to cap supply camps, take out dolyaks and the guard posts along the road. You can get good exp and some good cash pretty quick if the other teams don’t cut you off.
