Lip Service
Doubt this post will last long before the mods delete it and suspend you for a few days but nevertheless… WELL SAID DUDE! Unfortunately the culture of Korean gaming doesn’t think like most Americans and they could careless about customer satisfaction, it’s strictly about how much the old cow can make for them. If it doesn’t generate income its not important to Anet.

I would go a step further. Anet deserves a place in the hall of shame next to Trion and EA. My hope is gone.

So no patch before next wintersday
All we wanted was a GvG.
WvW overhaul has been in development for over a year now. There are lots of core things we still need to do including population balance etc."
So over a year ago they knew this map would not work so they prepared an overhaul already?

Of course it’s been lip service… Anet is not changing stuff for us really, they are pushed to do things now that a super pvp game called CU is becoming reality and they have to compete…
We will see an effort now because they don’t have a choice anymore.

I’d love to be proven wrong but I don’t think this major overhaul will be that major. Didn’t they just toss out a season and some minor PR efforts when Archeage was launching? I expect to see more of the same when other anticipated MMOs launch. WvWvW has decayed to the point where I’d question anybody who will actually throw serious resources into fixing it.

Camelot Unchained is so so far from being able to compete with GW2 that it’s not even funny. GW2 will kill itself long before CU comes close to touching it…
Indeed, there is no reason to hype any upcoming RvR game or MMO in general. Does anybody remember the times when The Elder Scrolls Online was said to become the GW2 killer? Or Wildstar, the big super hardcore MMO? Both slipped faster than you could say “whoops!”.
Therefore let’s continue squeeking. I won’t try to pretend that I have a lot of hope left, getting this convoluted mess of a game mode fixed is about as hard as clearing out the Augean stables if you’re not Hercules, but it’s better to make noise for the slight hope that something existing is getting fixed than hyping the next probably not so big thing.
If we really get something better, we can still jump ship.

Sorry for double post but I think the above will be removed as the quoted post will most likely be removed.
CU doesnt look good, but I just watched a video review about Crowfall, and that seems a lot more interesting with seasons, different game types which will last a few months before changing to another!
Basically all the potential we seem GW2 having but in another game!

It looks promising.. open world pvp & politics…..all sounds just the game i need.

I’d rather cringe than continue seeing WvW fall.

I didn’t mention that to discuss liking it or not. Neither your or my individual like or dislike matters.
They created a very well know and loved pvp game before, and coming out with a new ++pvp/rvr world, not zone… They looked at gw2 on their info quest as mentioned, so they will make something totally far our of gw2 wvw zone reach. It will be leagues apart.
There is a mass following and love and history from the creators of that game, and that will take a huge chunk out of pvp minded players from gw2 and other games. Trust me when I say those fans are going to be foaming at the mouth to play rvr, and twitch will be popular for this game too. Not like the few hundred peak watchers at any given time for gw2.
Anet better put all the bells and whistles and love and magic and miracles into wvw, because they will look really really really bad if they don’t. They already do look bad with the current state of wvw, so they are fighting from a huge deficit already.
Edit- wvw and eotm better have the most amazing and kick kitten reward systems too put in, so it can draw more current players to rebuild their ruined base and pathetically low following and participation rates.

Camelot is still in alpha, beta maybe in spring, so it ain’t going to be pretty yet. Crowfall is closer to release, in the end they’re both options that players are looking to now more than ever.
GW2 been working on a gameplan for wvw for a year now? yet they took one of their main guys off it way back in march? who doesn’t even work for the company now? These guys don’t even talk to the players about wvw like the spvp guys sometimes do, I guess they got it all figured out. Wvw has already lost so many players it’s so sad what the game mode has turned into after 3 years.

It would be great if they didnt wait so long to fix stuff that actually needed to be fixed. I just hope they dont double down on whats clearly failed, you can put lipstick on a pig but its still a pig…
I dont understand this policy of not giving any info on future plans or content. They are just asking for a firestorm of anger and criticism because they dont allow any testing or feedback before its launched. But heck with anet, even if they did, they probably wouldn’t listen or care anyways…
Honesty is not insulting, stupidity is.

Over a year my kitten more like 2-4 weeks max
Yeah if it’s only an hour or two a week then saying, “for over a year” is incredibly deceptive. If it really has been over a year of work, then they have someone incredibly incompetent working on it.
Whoa whoa whoa….. folks, let’s reel this in for a minute and take a breathe. Look, I’m cynical and bark and howl on the forums a lot. Though it very obvious for me to see that they have been working on WvW. In that I have no doubts at all actually. My issues are what they are planning and whom they’ve been listening to for their “player input”.
Right now I’m hopeful, yes hopeful, that polishing and fixing of the Alpine maps is underway. That they’ll get it rotated back in soon. While the Desert map is offline, fix it and modifying some terrain. Mostly for the game wide inclusion of gliding. Personal wish, more water! I want Land, Sea, and Air combat!
For population, I’ve always recommended to the Dev’s to uncork transfer’s. Let players go on vacation and freely move about and be. We’’ll find our way and more than likely have fun in the process.
tldr for players : relax, vacation, fun
tldr for dev’s: Alpine, free transfer’s, Pop a tag and come join the fun

Fixing… Alpine? I’m sure the majority of the WvW community would be overwhelmingly welcoming to Alpine BLs before any changes. The devs would probably only have to update the upgrades system and such to keep it up to date but no, they don’t need to work on fixes! They should give us Alpine and work on core WvW issues and then work on Desert BL.

It would be so much fun if the Devs played WvW with us. Would be even more fun if they were the “4th server” so everyone could attack them.

They are most likely making a snow map and run 3 different sides and have EB in place. I’m assuming they are revamping alpine and EB maps.
Free transfers do zero except stack top servers leaving the others more desolate… Also, they are not going to give game wide free transfers to the 3.1 million monthly concurrent users (best numbers I have on approximate population reported back in October 2015) all for the benefit of wvw… I bet that 98% of the total gw2 population doesn’t care about wvw, so the devs are not going to hand out freebies like that either.
And think about this… By adding in “play for free”, October 2015 had 3.1 million monthly concurrent users… Look how dead wvw is… Transfers do nothing when wvw is just awful all around. If wvw was deleted it wouldn’t hurt the bottom line and those are facts. And if this game only had eotm as the only wvw experience, it would survive just fine honestly with the playerbase…

Before they do anything else, they might as well bring back the old Alpine maps. The new deserted borderlands are just that: deserted. They’re not fun to play in because of the mechanics in them and the simple fact that they are way too large for any server not T1.
The first step in the right direction would be to bring back the Alpine maps. Don’t alter them in any way until you know for sure the changes will be welcomed (give us ideas and let people give their opinions on the changes rather then enforce it and get feedback after forcing us to deal with the changes for an entire week. Golem week being an example, ask us about what we think about the idea instead of just randomly applying the idea.)

I’ll have to give anet some credit there; at least they did toss us a bone with that Holiday Sneak Peek thread.

gamebreaking bugs out the kitten , like the waypoint not being contested and walls that don’t take damage, etc.
Its crap like this which pretty much proves that wvw gets zero attention from anet. If the invulnerable walls bug popped up in a meta event in the HoT zones or in a story quest, it would have been fixed within 12 hours of it being reported.
“WvW overhaul has been in development for over a year now. "
A year in development I would except so many new systems improvements and fixes.
It better not disappoint, because at the moment everyone is leaving and the only way they’ll ever come back is if WvW finally feels rewarding.
“There are lots of core things we still need to do including population balance etc.”
So the list is “population balance” and then it jumps to “etc”? I mean doing population balance over 3 years in is already really really late. ESO implemented a population balance system only a few months after the initial release.
Colin should have said: “There are lots of core things left to implement including population balance, a rank-driven reward system, the return of the Orb we promised over a year ago, a better waypoint system for the new map, gliding in the new map, design overhaul of the old maps and a reorganizing of the current 4 WvW map into a cohesive whole with EotM.”
NOT. GONNA. HAPPEN. As noted, WvW is not a driver of the bottom line income for GW2. WvW will be left to die on the back burner. Read between the lines in Colin’s message: GAME. OVER.
Right now I’m hopeful, yes hopeful, that polishing and fixing of the Alpine maps is underway. That they’ll get it rotated back in soon.
Why would you think that the people who brought you the Desert BL are going to do anything positive with the Alpine map? Talk about wishful thinking.

Hey now, the Desert map may be depressing and not be conducive for fights but, that’s what players demanded in the CDI’s. If players stop using “blob” like it’s some other four letter words, we wouldn’t have the maps designed as they are. Otherwise, there was a lot and I mean a lot of love put into that map. Since they’re quiet I’ve actually spent quiet a bit of time simply RP walking around them taking in the scenery. There’s an amazing level of detail put into the new map. We have to give credit where credit is due…….
And yes, in reality I can be annoyingly super sunny when not trolling
So when I make a wish, I wish large!

Do you think anet is scared to drop the We’re sorry but we can’t solve the core issues with WvW with the system that’s in place now aka Operation Clean Slate. I think they’re scared to do it.

Scared, maybe. But more likely they have calculated that the manpower (money) needed to do so would not bring enough new income to justify doing it, especially after the epic failure of the DBL. Management has probably made a decision to let it bleed to death quietly (why else the silence?).

At this point, that would be the smart thing to do. It’s too late now. Nothing that they’re willing to do that can bring back the WvW population at this point.
And it should be obvious, even to them, that whatever grand plans they had for WvW are going to fail just as hard. So what else is there to do but pull the plug and hope that this whole episode doesn’t live too long in the annals of gaming infamy.
