On the odd occasion I like to live-stream my game play of Guild Wars 2. At the moment, I mostly focus on PvE/HoT type content. I recently jumped back into WvW after a long hiatus, and a thought occurred to me that maybe I could broadcast some of the content of the Battlegrounds and the Borderlands.

However… I was wondering what the general consensus of live-streaming WvW was like from the community. Is it acceptable to live-stream WvW as long as there is a delay? Or is it generally frowned upon due to risk of enemy players watching? If I were to begin streaming, what sort of things should I watch out for?

I notice that some other players do stream WvW content, but I’m looking for a few brief opinions on the matter before I decide. Thank you for any feedback.

If anyone really wanted to “spy” they could make a free account, and just join the server they are facing.

Only thing I can imagine is that you should say it loudly (and repeat after some time) that you are streaming this. Other then that, go for it (Could be different in other servers tho).

Just delay it a fair bit. That way if the enemy looks at it, you can use the delay to roflstomp them

maybe I’m thinking something else. But I could’ve sworn a dev was livestreaming at one point in WvW, and the opposing teams were following the stream and basically screwing over the team the dev was on.

I could be wrong though.

But when i think about it. If you are being a solo roamer, no problem. Just turn off map chat to be safe as well.

If your channel isn’t that popular, then I wouldnt worry much either.

But if you are the opposite of these, then probably best not to, or announce that you are, so commanders know

I say go for it. It’s a GAME and you should do whatever you want to have fun in it, even if that means streaming it.

I don’t see the need for any added delay either because NONE of the services out there offer literal “real time” video/stream. Most if not all of them have at least a 30 second delay already just based on how things work. Adding anything more would kind of be pointless to the point of streaming anyway (to be in as real time as possible)…

I say go for it!

^ Because this ^

Sure, maybe some lame brain out there may use or try to use your stream as an “advantage” (to know where you are and what you’re up to), but at the same time that’s NOT enough reason NOT to do it.

Because as STIHL pointed out, if people REALLY want to spy, they can just make a free account, level a toon to 60, and spy that way!

The general rule of thumb I use is, if solo or with my guild no delay please come try to stream snipe us…at your own peril. If running with a zerg commander, I stick a 30 second delay on just for common courtesy.

But lets be honest, unless your Glad or Wilson you are very unlikely to ever have enough viewers that stream sniping is much of an issue. No one bloody watches GW2 streams anymore.

As stated, just stick a delay on. Instead of turning map/team chat off you can stick an image on the scene where your chat box would be. I use OBS for streaming/recording. If you have questions on how to do this I’d be happy to help. It’s super easy and you can do it with any image. So you can make a fun signature type thing or just a silly picture of a skritt and slap it over the chat box that’ll only show up on the recordings and not actually in game.

Thanks for the replies! I think that’s all I really needed to hear before considering this.

You should be fine streaming as long as the group / commander you are running with knows it and you guys agree on the length of delay. You do have to watch what you say a little bit for example don’t say stuff like :

“We’ll go pop OJs on their keep then waypoint and take a tower or hit so-and-so keep”

Because then whoever watches will be ready, with tactivators, siege, defenses, etc., and it will make things harder on yourselves.

Another words, don’t talk about objectives in advance.

Most people dont care that heavily about PPT anymore but sure if they kitten about it just put a delay on.

If it were me i’d only bother putting a delay on if something big’s going down like an organized multi-guild guerrilla or golem attack but servers dont seem to pull that stuff anymore n just ram heads at a keep for the night. Back in the day DEX used to perma-stealth packs of golems right next to keeps in hiding places from spawn ready for prime time n set up for a three-pronged attack with other guerilla/zergbusting guilds, funny memories :P (quaggan houses you were not that useless after all).
