Logging off when downed [Merged Threads]
I’ve noticed in the last 4 weeks or so, more and more people leaving the map once I have downed them. I don’t know if they’re exiting the game or what, but they entirely leave the map after I have downed them. I can’t finish them so I’m unable to loot and makes it much harder to get Badges of Honor.
They’re not going invisible, or stealth. They’re entirely leaving the map by whatever means. I’m not sure how. A lot of people are doing it.
Arenanet, I would appreciate it if you implemented a system that didn’t allow players to leave a map once downed, or even in pvp combat.
Leaving the map once downed so you can’t be killed is a scrub move.
They should at least die with honor and just strip all their armor off before you stomp instead :P
Not sure if this is a “simple fix” however, if you log out while downed you should obtain damage to your armour as if you died. This will reduce the people who do this as they will have to pay the PvE re-spawn (it’s 0 copper in WvW) AND they will still get the armour damage.

This happen to me five times last night. I thought i was losing it or had crappy connection, they just vanished into thin air.
Would indeed like a fix for that.
I believe that you still die and receive damage to your armour when you alt-f4 or drop to character select while downed.
They are purely doing this to deny you of loot out of spite, and because for some reason it is easier on their frail ego.
It’s called Alt+F4 and I agree it’s pretty pathetic…but I don’t think there is anything Anet can realistically do about it.

Pretty simple if they get disconnected whilst in WvW you get an hour ban. Or if it happens x number of times within a certain time you get banned for an hour.
Quiet a few games have this feature even if the disconnect was not the player’s fault. So I think Anet should bring in something similar, and if the person is downed and disconnects the victor still gets a drop.
Though that said we have also seen a some log off when they know they will be killed by a zerg. or a group which they have been defeated by before.
This has been annoying a lot of people and it completely ruins WvW for everyone. As said you put in the effort to kill them and yet by logging off they steal your win!
Remember to buy the officially endorsed GW2 Steel Series Keyboard, it supports macros!
WvW, we only care if it affects the servers we play on.
it is a simple fix that exists in almost every other mmo game. All ANET has to do is add delay so if said cry baby ALT F4’s out their character still stays in game for say 30 seconds or so. Of course this would apply to anything so if you lag out the same thing would apply but that is not a big deal. This is becoming a huge problem in WvW.

Get a grip. It’s not that big a deal.
fix the culling bug, then we can discuss this.
The issue is not being able to loot Badges of Honor. You need a considerable amount to buy anything good with it.
no armor damage if you log out. its really easy to test

I hate when people do this and have experienced it a lot recently. Shows very bad sportsmanship and just makes it even harder to get badges. Which then mean people will just do and camp jumping puzzles all day long which is already happening now.

how about a voice, yelling “RRRAGEPLUG!” and bonus xp/badges whenever someone logs out before being finished? :>
just kidding.
On a more serious note, just let them stay in the world for half a minute if they log out during combat.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
Thats something i really liked about eve online. If you tried to log out it would still leave you in game for 60sec. Was a nice feature! hint hint
I too don’t see the point in this. Simply to prevent the enemy from gaining 6 coppers and 2 badges? People who do this really need to get a life.
“Haha! You didn’t stomp me so I didn’t lose the fight!” – Fail :x

because you can log out to your loading screen and if you are in LA you get no fee for teleport(revive) and you are not dmged and in 30-40 sec you can go to wvw again. simple as that.
Just experienced this for the second time, won a 2v2 and we got no badge reward for our effort thanks to this. I’m already struggling to get the badges for the items I want, and if this catches on then I can see it significantly affecting game play.
I just dont understand how this game doesnt force you to stay in the world if in combat for like 30 seconds or a minute. Every other MMO EVER has done this, hell original EQ did this (didnt play UO so I dont know about it).
There is also another simple fix to this. You can simply move on and keep playing.
That being said, I was 1v1’ing a raptor and it downed me, so I used Alt+F4. I aint givin no badges to some punk raptor!!!!!
“I smell like pomegranate.”
happened to me a few times when I won 1 v 1 . Not a big deal tbh since you get nothing from the stomp other than maybe 2 crests. Kinda made it more fun knowing the other guy was so pissed.

I will confirm UO did have a log out timer (a rather long one), even if you weren’t in combat.
Once more, to prevent players alt f4ing simply add in a 10 second character disconnect timer of 10 seconds which is interupted by combat and moving.
Also apply this timer to waypoints in W3. People too easily just port away if they see enemies incoming.
Take out armor repairs and it will stop.

I LOLed!
Also, it isn’t a big deal. I take it as a point of pride if I beat someone so badly they rage quit the game. I imagine they’re throwing their keyboards across the room and breaking their stuff in a temper tantrum of epic proportions. Don’t laugh. I’ve known people that do this for real.
I find it funny you all think people are rage quitting when they do this. A few maybe, but majority do it cause of repair cost and downed mechanic being in pvp.
I’m not sure if the keyboard command is processed by the OS and sent to the game, or if the game processes the keyboard command and shuts itself down.
If the game does the processing, then the player should be allowed to lamequit but with a 30 minute penalty on returning to WvW to their account (note account not character). I’m fine with the penalty being higher.
If the game-close command comes from Windows as a generic command then that is harder to process because sometimes the GW2 client may well receive a legitimate command to shut down (such as when automatic updates decide to reboot your PC at exactly the wrong time). Not sure how you would code around this without risking penalising genuine fair-players that don’t abuse the interface in such a way. Perhaps in such a case I’d still give the reward to the killing player and penalise the linkdead player with their repair bill. You’d get occasional frustration when someone gets an accidental disconnect but you’d stop the gamesmanship.
Things like the outmanned situation need to be tackled separately from this, so that outnumbered servers/players are not discouraged from participating in WvW. I’d reduce the repair cost as part of the outmanned buff, possibly reducing it to zero if the numbers are significantly different. That way its still worth going out to heroically face the enemy even if you are very likely to get creamed. I’d reduce honour badges though to prevent planned farming.

The other guy is probably not upset at all. Just following common sense.
It’s an intelligent and rational choice. It saves you repair bills and prevents the enemy from gaining badges. It helps your team in wuvwuv and hurts the progression of the enemy team.
It has an added side bonus of being most effective if your side is outnumbered (has no queues) while the other side has queues.
Until arena net fixes it, the rational response is for everyone to quit to loading screen when downed. You can be back in the action in seconds, and you’ve saved your team some repair bills and cost the enemy team some badges. It’s not rage quitting, it’s economic warfare.
I log out on down about 100 times a day. It’s funny from my perspective.
Fix the culling bug, and perhaps will happen less often.
Having played mostly PvP MMOs since I started MMOing back in ’99, I can say this is the prime example of a bug that gets patched one way or another. Now that Arenanet has been made aware of it, it WILL go away.
And chances are, the fix will not be something any of us will be overly happy with lol. It will likely be in the form of a logout timer if you are in combat, leaving your character in game for ~10+ seconds if your client closes out. Which really sucks for people who actually DC mid fight. :-\
But that’s how it goes. A few children/immature adults will ruin it for everyone else. It’s like being in elementary school all over again lol

lol, nice. Why should the enemies get badges off me, I applaud this action.

geez 100 times a day?….. might want to practice not dying. Heck, I hate dying as much as the next guy. Guess it all depends on yer play style. I got it beat into me the hard way I guess. Playing Ultima Online back in the day. You died….you lost all that you had on yer body as loot. Games these days make it so easy for the individual to die and lost nothing. Sure the other guy gets a badge, and maybe a little loot.
But at least Im not popping out and killing you(on that game I’d collect power or vanq weps and deadly poison them…better chance my PK would win the fight, didnt matter if it caused them to break soon after as long as I won. hehe)….stripping your body bare of every piece of armor and weapons. Taking all your pots or foodstuffs….cutting yer head off for a badge to lock down in my keep, and putting your items I dont want on my vendor named “buy yer s**t back”. Then again, I miss that alot.
So at least give the guy a break and give him his just desserts…. after all, yer out there hoping to kill him. And probably want a few badges yourself.

Anyone bothering to log out before being stomped is just a sore loser.
I love when they alt-f4. I don’t need the money or badges that much, but people who do this just let me know how mad they get because they lose to me.

you alt-f4….it should disconnect you. But, your toon should be still active for at least a three minute cooldown. Not to bring U.O. up again, but there…if you wanted to log out safely outside of an inn in a town or your home/or a home friended to you. You literally had to “make camp”….as in, make a campfire and set out a bed roll and click it to log. Cant tell you how many times I caught people logging out not doing that, cuz they thought they were out in no mans land, and safe. Free lootz. Same went for transfering goods from one toon to another. If ya didnt have a personal home to drop stuff in chests. You could drop it on the ground and log. But you only had so long to do so or it would vanish. And if you did it in the woods outside of town….you were timed out from logging right back in.
So they would do it near Inns in town. But us sneaky thieves tended to get said loot if they werent careful, hehe.

I’ve never died, so I don’t understand this question.

I had no idea how people were doing this and thought they were just teleporting or stealthing away, but I could never find them again. At least I understand the mechanics of what’s happening now.
From now on I’ll just smile as they log out, secure in the knowledge that they were bested a hundred times a day (and know it). . . . loser’s.

100 times a day? You must die a lot. That would be massive entertainment for me. You have to restart the game, login, load, and enter WvW again. You may not even make it back on a busy day/night. All this time I get to continue about my business with a smile on my face and one less loser in the game for x amount of time. Win!
Finally, you are costing your team resources and time all for your wounded pride. It shows a complete lack of understanding the team effort and what WvW is all about because you don’t simply respawn at the nearest waypoint. I hope there are 99 people just like you in every map I’m in. It would make winning each week that much easier.

I do it to people that have done it to me before. They deserve it.
Otherwise, you have to be a really sore loser to alt + f4 just because you lost a fight. Or got caught by a zerg.
I know it’s not a rage-quit thing. I know it’s just a lame “save repairs/deny badges” thing. But that’s really lame and boring, and the people who do it are lame and boring. So I imagine them doing something interesting, like raging around their house. It makes me feel better, because the truth is like learning there’s no Santa every day.

Most people I’ve seen that do this are definately rage quitting. I can’t prove it, but I have a pretty good idea it’s not just for “armor repairs”. There may be a few people out there doing it solely for armor repairs, but yeah.
Personally I find it hilarious. This one guardian quite a while ago I found 1v1. He lost so I killed him. Next fight I got him down then he alt-f4’d. Next fight I got him to half before he alt-f4’d. The fourth time as soon as he saw me coming he instantly quit. Pretty funny.
Indeed, 15+ secs logout timer unless you’re at a WP. Interrupted by damage and recieving conditions.
Farming badges with losers like that running around makes it a really dull experience.

Really, people should just man up and take the death. Logging out is an act of cowardice and a refusal to take the consequences for losing. Rationalize it however you want—deny badges, for laughs, etc—it’s still the same thing.
