Longest running tower battle ?
Passed the 4 hour mark during BETA with my guild claimed tower. Five of us defended against about 30. But this was before siege weapons became absolute trash for antipersonnel usage.

No they are long because engagements can last for tens of minutes onto halves of hours because a well entrenched team with the proper siege, communication, and high ground (which every tower offers), can hold out until a loss by pure attrition.
If a tower is well defended its walls falling are half of the battle. Keeps expand on this…

We (TC) spent a solid hour and a half holding a supply camp (Speldans) from Kaineng last night. That was a really epic and hard-fought open-field battle.They eventually wore us down with superior numbers, but it was an amazing amount of fun.

An idea on T2 tower defense. Just like others said, even if the wall or gates down its only half the battle.

It occurred during beta. In earlier beta even standing in 1 arrow cart’s barrage for the full duration was nearly guaranteed death. It forced players to dodge out of the way, and totally prevented the “zergballing” we see today. Basically siege could be an “area denial” tool. Now, people just tank it and shrug it off.

It was changed because it was stupid. You could lock down a choke indefinitely with a single arrow cart.
And no one is “shrugging off” superior arrow carts or ballista.

We made a “Guardian Barrier” for a ballista yesterday, while catapulting a wall tower… The ballista’s shots couldn’t reach the catapult because of the guardians standing in front of it, and 3 suport guardians can pretty much take all damage…
I’m not sure if it was superior tho…

I find a few people with proper siege can prolong even large zergs simply due to their ability to target down any siege the zerg throws up. Unfortunately unless reinforcements arrive it’s a matter of time until those walls go down— the zerg can keep resupplying while the tower will run out of supply (if it had any in the first place) for repairs.
I enjoy defending more than attacking. If I’m in combat, I prefer for it to be open field. None of that you shoot me from the wall crap.

Superior hits for 10-12k + bleeds, that’s the majority of a guardian’s health. Two superiors will demolish any attempts to “stand there and take it” unless its done by soldiers geared warriors standing in endless water fields (or if the users have no idea how to time their shots for a spike).

Admittedly, I’ve never run a full-vit Guardian outside of PvP where the stats are a bit different but I’m pretty sure you’re not topping out at 24k? But either way, its close to half of your health.

I’m running on Magi’s gear, and i’m at 20k HP without the WvW buffs (I can get near to 24k by the end of the week).
Um, my engi sits at 22K in P/T/V gear.
Engineer’s have a base HP higher than Guardians… A naked level 80 guardian have 13k hp…

I’m running on Magi’s gear, and i’m at 20k HP without the WvW buffs (I can get near to 24k by the end of the week).
Interesting (WvW bonuses are PvE-side only are they not?). I’m still never going to run full vit, but its nice to know how the numbers line up.
Guardian, Elem, Thief base is 10k.
Engineer, Ranger, Mesmer base is 15k.
Warrior, Necromancer base is 18k (36k DS).

My favorite long fight was defending garrison in an enemy borderland with both of the other servers attacking. It was a crazy 3 way fight that lasted a couple hours.
Didn’t know that. Intuitively I would have thought it would have gone:
Elementalist, Thief, Mesmer 10k
Engineer, Ranger, Necromancer 15k
Guardian, Warrior 18k
Guardian has same base hp as thief/ele afaik, thsy just have a TON of toughness/defensive traits

My server just got attacked three to one odds, for near an hour and a half the outcome of the battle was anyone’s guess until SF reinforcements arrived set up three catapults to attack our wall. We held out manned and with little siege for over an hour. Comment your strange long lasting tower battles.
that was a pretty epic fight. i counted 4 cats when we went back to retake the tower later. musta dropped another at some point… i also wish i was’t the only person who jumped into the breach in the wall to try to stop the SF tide…turned out to be a rather short-lived endeavor. XD
i’da hung around for more, but i had to run out and take care of chores. dang RL, don’t they know i’m busy siege-ing?!?

I hear that! I am always one of the first ones to die because I push in when it makes sense for all of us to push in to overwhelm the defenders on one side of the breach or the other to establish a “base” in there. But the zerg is brainless most of the time. A few of us push while the commanders and we (us?) yell PUSH, and those few of us die. Run back, and then the zerg usually pushes.
It is like they think a death really affects that much in the game?? It is simple repair costs and I get more bags by pushing to to destroy siege AND dying for it than I do hanging back with the zerg and playing it safe.

We had a 3 hour Quentin lake defense with no walls or doors left vs a huge zerg that kept trying to portalbomb inside.we were heavily outnumbered, but our deathtrap made us farm them..It was over when tower fortified
and there was a 4 hour longview defense with only 12 people vs 30 + zerg(No walls,no gat,1 guild banquet, no siege, but some nice chokepoints)

Just about 3 hours at our garrison, one of the first few weeks SF came to T8. The Zerglings eventually got in though….after an hour of PvWall tactics because they were too dumb(or lazy) to go south and get more supply. Fear the Gilkin

Recently Piken defended Lords room in SM for around 2 hours with all 3 gates down against SFR and JS. Threeway with around 50 people on each side. Most people ressed around 15-20 times each and ran back to the Lords Room as the fight went on for so long…
Obviously this was before all the Piken top guilds all xferred to SFR which is one reason SFR r so kitten good atm
Piken often defend Bay with inner wall down for over an hour… great place to farm enemy bags :P

My best was 4-5hours for OL Keep in EB. This was against Elona Reach when we 1st made it into T3 just before xmas. It started at about 2am when 70+ ER guys zerged the whole of EB with 6 golems, and only OL and Veloka were left. We had 8 guys in there to start and it was amazing, ER barely changed their strategy they just kept zerging against the doors. that night against our keep they lost 12golems+ 1 omega(this is what got us in the end),20-30rams, 20+ cats, 4/5trebs and a few ac’s/bali’s. They just wouldn’t stop no matter how much we wiped them, repaired the doors/walls enough that we could wipe them the next charge. In the end they brought a omega golem and us realising it a bit too late didn’t have any siege in range to kill it before it took the door down. At that point there was 5 of us left, we got mown down with the lord. Was my most longest epic battle, they even then took another hour to get Veloka. Pikeneers never give up!

my favorite longest battle was defending Stonemist castle, we were trebbed for several hour and every now and then zerged
i was the brain at defending SM,as i set ballistas on the high areas around the gates and set 1 or 2 catas behind them, and we lost SM at the 5 hour point when the 2 other servers attacked 2 different inner gates, and wow they pushed us from all directions in the lords room, we eventually got shoved into the top of the castle and blue took the castle from us, and then they swarmed up and finished us off.

I think the longest defense I’ve ever seen goes to Anvil Rock holding SM against NSP and BP from either side.
NSP was at a door like.. we’ll wait for BP to head in, get wiped and then we’ll kingmaker it. But BP was thinking the same thing.
So it nearly ended up us running around the inner fighting each other, while AR went from Lords room to hiding upstairs to jumping down ontop of us and back into the lords room.
And this was with siege flying everywhere and 40 v 40 v 40 zergs.
I tell you.
Half a year of commanding and I’ve never had my brain boiled as much as that. I won’t even count in the trebbing and 3-4 golem rushes. The inner run about took about 3 hours in itself. The whole thing was the entire night shift and we all were wiped more times that I can count.
And I’m good at maths.
I mean.. I wasn’t going to give up SM after all that work..
T1 think you’ve got the good fights? Naaah.

Held our garrisen for 6 hours Vs SF about 4-5weeks ago
Edit: They trebed from the tower north west side of garrisen, punished the outter wall took 2+ hours once through we held them at the 2nd wall for about an hour and a half till we built up the numbers to push them back into there tower, rebuilt the outter. then they pushed back again. Just repeated the process for a bit over 6 hours till they gave up.
Side note: it was a fully upgraded Keep Claimed by us and was the only thing that week that was held for more than 4 days. This was when we where blue

Depends when you consider the fight for a tower/keep to really be over and it just becomes a farm fest. I have been part of 6 hour farms in enemy servers garrisons where they just kept coming in and were unable to take it back and its nothing but constant bags when you are running siege.

I was going to say define when the start siege starts & ends, because I have had Towers just this weekend hold out for 7hrs+/- before finally being taken, and under constant siege off & on during it. And hell just earlier today held a tower for 30min+ being cut off from everything with 7ppl vs 25+ cause of siege placement and Guardian shenanigans.

I think the longest I have seen was a ~2 hour battle inside the SM lord room. Basicly, the entire server was there lol. Skills took 30s-1m to pop, so we could barely kill each other. It was just chaos.
When Kaineng was on the rise, AR was in the same tier as us and held their garrison for a 7hrs vs. endless Kain zergs. NSP meanwhile was defending the overlook keep (~4hrs). NSP finally lost overlook once AR garrison fell because the Kaineng reinforcements came to EB.
I’m not sure how it went over at the AR garrison, but at the NSP overlook Kain would literally show up with a ~40 person zerg, set up 4 catapults against the inner wall, then wipe. This went on for four hours.
This kind of thing has led me to believe that there is very little to the upper tiers beyond numbers and voice chat.

Oh there isnt. AR is exactly the same in the current matchup. Piken is the smallest high tier server in EU and we literally face a neverending zerg no matter how many times we wipe them. But T2 was far, far worse as a zerg was the only way to get anywhere on a map. Least fun I have had in the game.
Either way, it does lend itself to long defensive battles

I think hes saying how long have u defended a Tower/keep from the point that a gate goes down before it goes back up again?
Like i said, i remember Piken defending SM lords room for 2 hours solid with all 3 inner gates down ikitten0+ v 50+ v 50+ threeway against SFR and JS.
I also remember very recently arguably our top WvW guild VII taking Overlook from Gandara and they defended it all night with the main gates down. They had around 15 guildies online and maybe the same again in randoms and they held Gandara outside for the entire primetime, so around 4-5hours of farming them. Add to this when AR took down the watergate side so they had to defend 2 sides its was pretty amazing
