Looking for a New Server!

Pick something in Tier 6 or 7.

Zerg is the meta. It will change sooner or later.
What u have to worry about is the population ur server has. Instead of ending up in a ghost town.
They are introducing individual rewards soon so its bound to change.
That was my initial thought. But the recent announcement of free server transfers ending, some of the lower tiered servers may have died completely, while some of the servers higher up the list (IoJ for example) are misrepresented by their current rankings. IoJ has had a mass exodus from it by a bunch of WvW guilds over the past couple of weeks. This could end up being what I’m looking for, even though they are still ranked 10th (Tier 4).
Salluks, the reason for this change is a friend of mine and I are on the verge of, at least temporarily, quitting the game. We don’t want to. We enjoy WvW when it is small skirmish fights and not zerg trains everywhere. You could be level 20, naked, and traitless and still succeed rolling with a zerg. We hate it. We don’t want to quit, we want a new situation immediately.
As a Recruitment Ambassador for Sea of Sorrows (#1 wvw tier1 superserver), I would suggest you join us. We have a time between 11:30AM and 12:00PM GMT when we do not have a queue in blue borderlands. If you can fill this timeslot, please whisper me asap. Transfers are usually impossible since so many people want to be a part of the #1 server, but we can coordinate a server blackout to let you transfer over.
A bit about our server:
-Large enough amount of players to save money on siege when taking keeps/towers.
-Active map chat.
-Two weeks of vacation time per year.
-Three (3) days unpaid sick leave. (Based on assumptions that every player puts in eight hour shifts. These hours can be used at will – ie, you do not need to use an entire day for a half-day leave.)
-Military command hierarchy that allows players to know their role. (Disrespect of commanders will result in -50 DKP.)
-Automated voicemail system to notify commanders when you won’t be able to log in.
As a new recruit you will be relegated to sentry duty. Each “sentry scout” is required to sit at each crossroads and sentry point and report on map activity. You will be afforded a generous 40 minute lunch break and two ten minute breaks. (Please remember to whisper your commander when you are going to take this time off!! We have had issues in the past.) After two weeks of sentry duty you will be promoted to dolyak escort services, but may be tapped for supply running if you stand out.
If you would like to play at any other time besides 11:30AM-12:00PM GMT, I apologize but this may not work out. Let me know if this sounds appealing to you or anyone else reading and I can forward you the appropriate paperwork. Please do not waste our time as Sea of Sorrows superserver is only interested in dedicated players.
Edit: Forgot to add, we are currently seeking staff elementalists only.

If you don’t mind being outnumbered for a while and if you don’t mind riding out a sinking ship, then I recommend joining Isle of Janthir. They recently lost just about all of their major guilds and are on track to settle around T6-T8.
If you don’t want to do that, then consider Henge of Denravi. Besides being one of my favorite capitol cities in GW1, HoD is a server that’s been at the very top and is now toward the bottom. The server has plenty of skilled veterans remaining and would likely welcome a few new bodies into the fold.
A third option would be Ferguson’s Crossing. FC hasn’t made much of a splash in the WvW scene, but has a community of light-hearted players that enjoy what it is they do and play hard within their tier. They’re a solid T7/T8 presence and have been consistent in their performance.
Finally, if you’re worried about PvE population issues then you should check out Yak’s Bend, which is one of the few servers that consistently shows up as Full on the population lists. However, YB has a smaller WvW population (if not a skilled one) and would make a great home for folks in your position.
Every tier experiences zergs, so you won’t get away from them completely. However, the top four tiers are where you’ll see them most often. If you can get into one of the lower tier servers you’ll likely find yourselves more at home than on a server like Dragonbrand, which is pushing T3/T4’s border.
Yak’s Bend, while in T4 this week, may slip into the top of T5 in the coming weeks and as things balance themselves out following the 28th. If you like being outnumbered then Yak’s Bend is the place for you to be, otherwise I’d definitely risk it on FC/HoD/IoJ if you’re looking for smaller scale WvW.

Do not join Sea of Sorrows, as their ambassador completely missed the mark and didn’t even read your topic. They just saw, “Looking for a New Server!” and copy-paste-spammed you.
The servers that I’ve suggested all suit your needs in some way. In my opinion Yak’s Bend would be the one to go with, but since you don’t like facing zergs you might have more luck on FC or HoD. Both are also solid servers with solid communities. If neither of them appeals to you, then ride the ship with IoJ and see where it takes you.

The post from Kfarb was taken as nothing more as a joke by me. That is how I see the play on those huge servers and is why I want away from them. He couldn’t have been serious…. =/
I’m 99% sure that he was being purely sarcastic. I was trying to continue the joke, lol. But yes seriously YB/HoD/FC/IoJ are all likely candidates for your needs. I’d normally recommend joining each for a week to see what they’re about but that isn’t exactly an option anymore.

I cant speak for the other SOS guy as he was speaking only for his guild. But as an SOS player I can tell you that we have not just one or two, but many many well organized guilds and we run 24/7. So no matter what class you are or what time you play on— you WILL find a home. And SOS didnt get to number 1 and hang onto it by just noob zerging. So check us out. As for guilds, ONE is currently recruiting for players that play often. Thanks!
Right? We kind of have to make a decision in the next day or so. Trying to gahter all the information I can before making a decision. We normally play at night (US) time as we work 3rd shift. So it helps with the zerginess, but here in the past few weeks, Dragonbrand has turned into a nonstop zerg fest even at 3 in the morning. We liked it nice a quiet-ish with maybe 1 or 2 commanders out and lots of small skirmishes. Now there seems to be 6-8 commanders out even in the wee hours on Dragonbrand. WAY too zergy for our taste.
@ Me I’m Not. Correct. They did not reach rank #1 by noob zerging. They reached #1 by professional zerging. It matters none to me. I don’t care how well organized, good or bad, a zerg is. I hate zergs. Period. I want to play where they dont. Zergs ruin the game for me. I know I can not get away from them entirely, as it is WVW. However, the higher you get up in the tiers, the worse it gets. This is how you move up in servers in GW2. You zerg to win. Zerg everywhere all day long. WvW is a battle of numbers, period. I am entirely unconcerned with “winning” each week as it does absolutely NOTHING for me.
You have until the 27th really to make a decision, so you have about 4 days. My best advice is to get into the match-up topics and start contacting people on each server.
If you ask them not to sugar coat it and to give you the raw skinny on the server and what it’s like, you’ll get a better idea more quickly. You can also check out the community websites:
Isle of Janthir
Yak’s Bend
Henge of Denravi
I don’t know of a website for Ferguson’s Crossing, but that may be just that: I simply don’t know of it if it exists. I’d definitely recommend asking in the match-up topic.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
Thanks for the words, Kerithlan. For now we are leaning HoD, but the research continues.
I hope you guys find what it is you’re looking for! I don’t have many contacts or resources at my disposal, but if you need additional help feel free to get in touch. HoD is a solid choice if you go with them — be sure to get in contact with some of their guilds/players before making the switch!
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
I wish TOAST <—-lol wasn’t so high up on the list. As the unofficial RP server I would have to imagine that the community there is probably pretty top-notch.
Feel free to guest over at any time, especially if you like roleplaying!
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
I have dabbled in the past, but as I said, how much takes place at 3 in the morning US time? I’d consider taking the zergs in WvW for a reason to do something other than WvW.
We’re one of the most populated and active servers in the game. It’s 3:30am server time right now and I’m watching two sylvari, a human and an asura roleplaying in the Brisban Wildlands of all places. They’re likely European or Australian but without asking them I really have no idea. (Edit: Oh I see, it’s two Wardens, a Seraph and a Peacemaker.)
It’s very hard not to find people here.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
(edited by Kerithlan.1659)
Running the risk of being “too” populated? It’s 330 AM here too. West Coast it is, then. =)
I would move to PIKEN SQUARE.
They love newcomers to join their WvW, specially in Peak Hours.
Only in terms of getting people who want to transfer here in. It’s one of the major reasons we’ve hit roadblocks while recruiting for WvW.
Anyway feel free to pop in at any time once guesting is available, you’ll probably like what you find. If not, then it is what it is. Send me a message if you need help contacting people on HoD, otherwise best of luck getting everything sorted out.
Men of Science [MoS] – Tarnished Coast
If you just want to avoid running WITH a zerg, it’s still possible to do so on a “higher-tier” server, even as high as tier 2. TC for example has a low oceanic presence, and as an oceanic player on TC it’s very easy to hop onto a nearly empty map painted enemy colors and start flipping objectives or generally running around with other like-minded people. I’ve ninja-captured a keep with 4 people before, that was something. And that started with me just hopping onto an empty BL to do dailies! Moments like those make me treasure WvW, but I digress.
If you want to avoid running INTO zergs altogether there’s not much choice I think but to move to a very lowly populated server. Even then I’m sure you’ll still run into big groups when you play on the other servers’ peak periods. It’s not as if low tier servers only have like 10 people playing WvW at any one time – from screenshots I’ve seen they’re still capable of fielding big zergs, just not on the same terms of coverage as the higher ranked server.
Uhm if I may suggest:
Join an EU server, one that isn’t in T1-3.
You will have a lot of fun, you won’t find any zerg anywhere (except maybe on GH).
A lot of very fun fights I’ve had were during the nights with few people fighting people being outmanned.
Ofcourse being from RoS I’d like to recruit you for RoS (despite what the numbers say we are low on Night time activity) but you can pick from any other server, just make sure it’s not T1-3.
Ruins of Surmia
Oh I hear ya, ykyk. The problem I am having with zergs is that nowadays on Dragonbrand they are EVERYWHERE! There will always be a zerg or two popping up when a commander puts his tag up, I just want to not have 15 zergs running at any given time. It’s getting too crowded.
An example: The other night, it was 3 in the morning. There were walls down on SM on two different sides. There were 40+ of each server fighting in SM for hours. Some people LOVE that kind of action. I don’t. Too many people.
You can always choose to ignore the main group. Not ignore completely, of course, but engage in your own havoc tactics that still help your server’s cause but put you away from the big groups. So for example for that massive SM fight, what you could be doing as an attacking server would be to make sure the server holding SM doesn’t get to keep their camps and/or doesn’t get any Dolyaks into SM. You could be ambushing reinforcements that respawned and are walking back to SM to fight. You could even be trying to ninja-cap a tower while all the servers have their attention on SM.
kfarb is just trolling and not even on sos by the looks of it from maguuma way to keep it classy. in related topic news i would say isle of janthir could be a good fit based on everyone they have lost they will deff do some more sliding and the people left will have experience in all play styles and be a dedicated bunch perfect server for small ops scales when it fits into the right bracket.
Ykyk…that small tactics fight to assist in the overall goal while avoiding the main zerg is what we love doing. The problem is that here lately on Dragonbrand, there is NOWHERE that is safe from at least a 15-20 man zerg. They’re everywhere. Even supply camps are being hit by 20+ people.

Again, come to an EU server (not the t1-3 servers).
You will have your wish here.

A zerg can’t be everywhere at the same time or it ceases to be a zerg. Knowing where the enemy zerg is at/or attacking, how long it will take them, and where they are likely to go next makes it very possible to do small group harassment in any kind of WvW environment. It just takes some map awareness and general knowledge about common WvW tactics.
If there’s just one or two icons it’s easy to coordinate with them (and often very helpful for them) and avoid where your own zerg is going, especially during prolonged sieges where the bulk of your forces might need to be at the siege site and you or your small group are free to roam.
If every single map is swarming with icons and every remote objective is being hit by zergs simultaneously then I have nothing to say, your server must be in the wrong tier xD I play in tier 2 and have never had trouble finding a quiet(er) map for small group action before. You should probably consider a lower tier server then. I think tiers 6-8 are all having a blast with balanced matchups atm.
Waffler, there are multiple zergs. We’d load into a map and there are crossed swords and commander icons all over the place. We’d try to go to a “quiet” map and hit a supply camp and a group of 20 would show up to defend. This has been happening for the entire last couple weeks. I can’t see it getting any better. I don’t want to play on a server that has WvW queues at 3 in the morning. Too busy for my liking.

I understand why you’re seeing the zerg everywhere. FA has mass amounts of people on all the time, and CD is stuck in defense mode just to avoid losing so horribly that we leave people at the supply camps in an attempt to safeguard them. And because FA has so many people on, the odds of you seeing some at a supply camp are through the roof. Basically, it’s going to be stuck this way for the week, and if you’re thrown down a tier, you won’t have to worry about it for a week. But sadly, those of us at CD will be stuck with it…until FA hits T2 or we’re thrown down to T4 in your place.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
Or…we leave to a small server where we can roam and have our skirmishing and tactical fun! =)

Haha, actually they will have to deal with Kaineng which I think will be as bad as if not worse than FA. We are getting lucky, we just have to deal with FA for one more week and then we swap with Kaineng so that we never have to actually fight them. Of course we have to face Mag, but they seem to think they don’t have that many people so not sure how the match will pan out.
I have dabbled in the past, but as I said, how much takes place at 3 in the morning US time? I’d consider taking the zergs in WvW for a reason to do something other than WvW.
If you really are playing at that time, you need to consider how many people are going to be on at the same time, both on your side and your opponents. I think a key question you should ask is how much action you will get during your time zone. You might escape the zergs but end up in a ghost town.
I’m in New Zealand and play at a similar time to you on YB and think that there is quite a divide now between the servers with coverage at that time and those without it; by that I mean, those with coverage at that time seem to have a lot of it while those without have very little. That divide comes in tier 4 at the moment; if you look at the next likely match up in tier 4, DB and Kaineng I think both have good coverage at that time while YB does not.
If you joined YB, you might not be in a zerg at the time you are on, but you would certainly have to be prepared to face them. You would have to find out for yourself if tiers 5 and below have much action then.
EDIT: changed “DB and CD I think both have good coverage” to “DB and Kaineng I think both have good coverage”.
(edited by Ordibble.3092)
Yeah. Right now It seems that FA, CD, and DB are all completely packed during these play hours. I want to get away from it and one of the reasons for this post is just to put feelers out there to see what people have to say about other servers. I would hate to end up on a server that is completely dead.
If you join YB you’ll be in a zerg; don’t believe his lies. Read my 1st post in this thread, it’s really all you need to know.
Maguuma
If you join YB you’ll be in a zerg; don’t believe his lies. Read my 1st post in this thread, it’s really all you need to know.
Haha, by calling them lies you seem to have assumed that I am soliciting him to join YB, which I am not. I was merely providing info which he asked for in a non-biased manner.
You also seemed to have missed the part where the OP is on at 3am US time. It’s hard for YB to put together a zerg at that time when we might have 20 people on each of two maps at the most. And even if we did, there would be ample opportunity to get away from it if you wanted.
As for directing him to Millenium, only very vague info can be derived about how many people are on at a particular time. Changes in ppt could occur because one server has 5 people on and the others none.
Are you in a WvW guild? We have several, all of whom handle exactly the stuff you are looking for, we just don’t talk about it. While zergs are a big reason our server has moved up the tiers, just as big of a reason is the hard work of our WvW guilds who handle the highly coordinated small squad stuff.
During this matchup, here are some tasks that I’ve personally been a part of:
1) flipping enemy supply camps as part of a raiding party of 5
2) stationed on a keep (by my own choice) for a night, letting the rest of my guild (and the rest of the server, if needed) know when and where to defend and when more supply was needed for building projects
3) bunkered down in a strategically important supply camp with 5 or 6 guildies and held it against incoming zergs (80 badges on reset night!)
4) put together yak escort teams of size 2-10
5) roamed enemy territory with a team of thieves and warriors to cut off supply, hinder reinforcements, and cause diversions to distract enemy zergs
And this is all on Dragonbrand. And what’s more … it’s been this way since I joined Elephant Ambush [EA]. Before I joined a WvW guild, yeah, it was zergfest 2012 and it started to get old. Fortunately, we have the reputation of being one of the least “zergy” servers out there, and we are complimented on our ability to manage attack and defense by our opponents virtually every week.
Also, winning the matchup is likely to be more important, as ArenaNet has said that they intend for the outcome of the WvW matchup to have a material impact on the server, so you are literally thinking of transferring out at exactly the wrong moment. You actually sound like just the right fit for the Dragonbrand WvW community, you just haven’t found your place in it yet. You’re already here, and you’re here at a time when guilds are desperate to join our server. Why not hook up with a WvW guild?
EA is recruiting. You’ll find us over in the guild recruitment thread or just PM me and I’ll send you over to my guildmates that set people up with invites. I’m sure Pro, Duel, UhOh, Krew, WE, BP, or any of our other WvW-focused guilds have a spot for you, too, and may be a good fit.
We also know that we have too many people with commander tags on at the same time. It’s definitely a problem we are trying to manage it. Having a lot of fun, motivated people is a new problem for us.
If you join YB you’ll be in a zerg; don’t believe his lies. Read my 1st post in this thread, it’s really all you need to know.

Tiers 6 and 7 are close matchups and don’t have any zerg transfer servers driving by any time soon to ruin things. Their matchup threads seem to show a pretty fun matchup. Tier 8 is probably too empty for OP’s taste.
Maguuma
Sure, but at 3am? That’s why I restricted myself to saying they need to find out for themselves what tiers 5-8 are like, rather than making imperatives to pick a certain tier, providing just ‘probablies’, and calling other people’s valid info lies.
@Dudemeister.
I saw some of you guys running around last time I was out and about. Hi! =)
That said. I am already in UhOh. Very successful, lots of communication, strong presence in WvW. I have no guild issues. The guild is great. I have server issues. Dragonbrand is just to darned crowded for my taste.

It has gotten crowded. I’ve been on DB since the very first hour of the first beta weekend, so I’ve watched it fill up. I frequently log on and have no kittening clue who half of the commanders are.
UhOh is an awesome guild. I used to be in [Epic] with a lot of the commanders and they’re still some of my favorite people on the server. One thought may be to spend more time in other servers’ borderlands. Our BL usually gets a queue, and your guild can fill up Eternal Battleground by yourselves on your WvW nights, but that still leaves 2 others maps that need attention.
If you are into WvW, I’d hate to lose you from Dragonbrand, especially if you are out there supporting Traiche, Miss T, Lady V, and the other super-awesome UhOh commanders. We have such a fun group. Our challenge right now is that we’re growing so fast that we haven’t figured out how, as a server, to effectively manage that yet although we are trying! This may or may not be a meaningful analogy to you, but I work in high-tech in New York City, and Dragonbrand feels like the exciting, explosive-growth phase of a tech startup.
If you’re truly done with DB, then I’m sorry to see you go but we have some guilds that are eager to come on board with us so I guess you’re making room for someone who wants to be here as your final parting gift to UhOh and DB.
Hi,
Most of the servers that are able to roflstomp servers have pure numbers. Zergs.
IoJ obviously does not have that at the moment. We are learning to do more with less, and this is a trend I hope to continue. Come join us for a tight knight community.
Hi there Ski.
If you are looking for a server that rarely runs as a zerg and uses tactics to take over a borderland then I suggest Eredon Terrace.
Eredon Terrace is a tier 8 server, we don’t care if we win or lose as long as people enjoy the WvW. We actually get our “Kicks” and fun from being out manned all the time.
Solo/Duo roamers can make all the difference in a T8 server, instead of running around as a face rolling zerg we split our force and do multiple things at once whilst at the same time distracting our enemy on their own borderland.
ET has took a heavy loss over the months and by being out manned every match-up it has brought our community closer together.
We have several excellent commanders who know the battlefield & our community very well and they wont “Bark” orders or QQ at you for solo roaming (as said, solo roaming can make a huge difference).
Our PvE on our server is good, not all the zones are empty, we have a regular PvE population and it isn’t hard to find dungeons (we also have very little elitists who wont kick you for not knowing what to do or dying).
We at ET would love for you and your friend to join and help us out, within time we will get more players into WvW and start winning match ups, but for now losing and putting up one heck of a fight is the most fun i have had in a game to date.
Winning isn’t everything, having fun is everything.

Any of the three servers in the GoM/HoD/DN match-up would probably suit you. Currently, Darkhaven is the ‘zergiest’ of the three in that match-up but only during certain hours and they still maintain many small roamers as well. I’d say GoM is the most disorganized of the three on the large scale, but all three servers seem to have a good community and skilled skirmishers.
Also, as to population, I know that on GoM we consistently have overflow in LA, so there is still a healthy population.
Hi Ski, I’m a representative from Henge of Denravi, and will answer any of your questions should you have any.
As mentioned, even though we took a long fall for a while, we’ve finally stabilized at tier 7. Small team tactical play is rampant at this tier, and at times the WvW maps are relatively peaceful – which is a good time for map chat, or trying the jump puzzle. Other times, it can be pretty nail biting, because of how balanced we are with the other servers in this tier, so one can never tell who’s going to win till the end of the week, and every member’s effort counts – even to the simple sentry flipping, or dolyak killing.
Will have to say GoM and DH has larger zergs than ours, though they tend to come in spurts. HoD, on the other hand, is possibly the most spread out in timezones out of the three. We’ve got a decent NA early evening and late night crew, as well as Oceanics, Asians and Euros, all working hand in hand over the span of the day. We also have a server mumble that gets used on a daily basis, and server-wide WvW lessons.
