Greens Mystic – Mesmer | Google Deez – Ranger
Dragonbrand since day 1
I’ve been on DB since day 1 of purchasing the game. Day 2 I entered wvw since it’s what I had so patiently been waiting to see. I’m one of those kinds of people that doesn’t read directions and says “hey, let’s see what this does” while pushing buttons, ect. I ran with some zergs to see what all the commanders and other players were doing. Learning through observation is what I call it. Then I decided to go out on my own and see how well I could do roaming solo. Turns out my mesmer was quite good at holding it’s own, so I mostly ran solo while we were dropping like a rock down the tiers. Even though we have more people on the server now, I can always find something to do solo or with some random small groups of 3-10 people and there’s always a place for them, regardless of the time. I have played at all hours of the day and night and it never matters, there’s always a place for small groups. If there’s large forces of DB zergs where you’re trying to play, change to a different borderland. I’ve learned to read the maps and without even being on that BL, I can pretty much tell you if there’s a zerg on it or not just by capped forts, keeps, ect. You cannot, however, predict the presence of an enemy zerg or when you’ll run across them if there’s no intel being relayed in map chat. Zergs, I’m afraid, are going to be here for quite some time. I don’t see that changing. There’s simply too much defense available at keeps and forts for small groups to take over quickly and before reinforcements arrive. Like I said, there’s always something for small groups to do here, you just have to know where and when to go. I think you should stay because I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed once you do move then you have no choice after the free transfers are gone, unless you want to pay to move again.
I am from DB too so I am pretty sure OP is not from DB but a DB hater.
Last night 7pm-12am, DB has outman buff in 3 maps except DB BL. The only possible place you might meet 20+ men zerg is at DB BL but you will see 2x numbers from both FA and CD. I wish we could have 1x 20+ men zerg then we won’t lose EB overlook to FA’s 40 men zerg plus CD’s 30 men ninja army.
Oh no, I assure you, I am (and have been since launch) on Dragonbrand.
It is not just our zergs that I am talking about. It is all zergs. Ours, theirs, it doesn’t matter. Even at 3 in the morning FA and CD have zergs freaking everywhere. I don’t like it.
I will say that I’ve had more fun the last two to three weeks then I have had in a while in WvW. This is due in part of the rebuilding that has started on Darkhaven. We have stopped the bleeding of guilds and have formed a great alliance that is making progress everyday. There seems to be zergs on every server, however, we prefer a lot of small battles as we are normally outnumbered once we leave our home BL. It’s making us better at strategy and more importantly communication server wide. These are exciting times for Darkhaven as we were in the fight last week right up to the end and are currently leading this weeks battle.
Check out Darkhaven.
Awwa, Crystal Desert might have zergs but not every guild does zergs. My guild does decoy missions, supply drains, escorts, and circle capping. You’re going to find a zerg everywhere.
But—if you want to see a server that works together for strategies, check us out. Even though you’re currently beating us ~_~
Crystal Desert
Woah wait, I thought that http://crystal-desert.com was CD’s server site? Do you guys have two, or am I just lost?

We are a very popular server, therefore it takes two websites to contain all of the awesomeness that is CD. We tried using just one, but it exploded.
You must have the unfortunate luck to be at the wrong place at the wrong time a lot. I have played, like I said, at all hours of the day and night and I roam solo, undetected a LOT. No, I do not play a thief, usually a mesmer or ranger. I’m sure there’s been many a thief that tried to gank me that wished he had decided to pass me up for easier prey, but I enjoy those little skirmishes. Nine times out of ten they run away and a mesmer’s mobility skills are not going to catch a thief if he decides to run. I often run into others that are running solo and party with them on occasion. If we have 3-4 then we can cap supply camps fairly quickly and easily. If you want less zergs then you should probably look at the two lowest tiers, but even then, there’s no guarantee. At any given time, any server can get an influx of guilds and players and start moving up. Maybe overall, wvw is not for you due to the fluctuating possibilities with zergs. You might enjoy Spvp more.
Seems like the OP wants to join

If you really dislike zergs, you need to go to a zerver that does not have them. But you my friend nee to go to the bottom of the bottom, T7+ will not work for you because they have zergs as well. So GL, HF. On a side not, Ferg’s do pride theirselves on their fighting skill.
We don’t like zergs either, but the problem we found in T3 and below is that it is feast or famine. Especially in T3 the zergs were really, really bad. By that I mean there were NO small groups, almost ever. In T2 and T1 there are massive zergs, yes, but there are also a lot more smaller groups. Also, the action doesn’t stop 24/7. In T3 and below there are times when there is absolutely no one online!
For me, T2/T1 is the only place to WvW, regardless of your play style.
I hope the people who have a great dislike for zergs go to a t8-t7 server where they belong. One person thinking their making any noticeable difference soloing a Sentry point guard does not belong in higher tiers IMO. I know a lot of people (including my guildies) will troll me for this reply, but in my honest opinion; If you are not organized I just assume you are soloing moa birds your a part of the problem, part of the problem why I can not get two rams up. Or part of the problem why your server mates were wiped due to being outmanned due to those people who complain like a child “I dont like zergs” well, explain that to your server mates who just got wiped.
I’m only going to say a little on the subject.
Being from Dragonbrand as well, and wanting to see good things keep happening for the server, I feel compelled to at least defend the idea of not leaving one time.
For one thing, if Kaineng is really as much of a force as everybody has been saying it is, Dragonbrand will probably balance out in tier 4 after paid transfers kick in. FA is the biggest problem for zergs right now, and they’ll likely be moving up to tier 2 and not matched against us for the near future.
I run small groups in wvw quite frequently (More than I zerg), as well as solo roaming. Yes, I agree that it’s been more difficult to do so effectively this week, but that is mostly due to FA’s numbers and, calling back to my previous paragraph, will not be our problem for much longer.
Another thing to consider is that Dragonbrand has received a fair amount of transfers recently.
It will take some time for new guilds to find their place, and learn how to work with each other without zerging everywhere. When you enter a new community and don’t know the kind of playing they do on their end, the simplest impulse is to resort to a zerg.
I would suggest remaining with Dragonbrand for now, I’ve been watching the server morale/population/etc since launch, and we are in a better place now than we have ever been, and our community is better than that of some other servers I’ve seen.
Worst case scenario is that wvw never balances out enough to satisfy you here and you pay to transfer off. Likely where you would be transfering to would be a lower population server (Since you want a lower population wvw), and should not be too expensive in either gold or dollars to buy gems for.
I haven’t seen any Northern Shiverpeaks love (sorry if I missed it). Does NSP have zergs? Sure, but they are easy to avoid if you want to play your own game. My friends and I usually form small commando squads and go cause trouble away from the main fights. Great tactic to help relieve pressure from our own BL.
I think there are some exciting days to come in wvw with a lot of interesting matches ahead because of all of these last minute server transfers. Honestly, any of the “lower tiers” will probably offer the same play style but it sounds like you play the same time we do so think about NSP. Hit me up in game if you like.
HOD, IOJ and FC would all be good fits for you, but may I suggest NSP! We have one of the closest marchups in tier with 1st and 3rd being separated by less than 10k points! We have a very fun and friendly community and we enjoy new players. We haveany guilds that also like slaughtering your despised zergs! Good luck with your choice wish their were more players like you who liked small scale stuf
Thanks for the words, Kerithlan. For now we are leaning HoD, but the research continues.
Ski, if you guys are still leaning toward HoD, you would be very welcome here – and would find it fun and challenging. HoD is a great place to call home.
If you have any specific questions, feel free to whisper me in game – Blaeys.3102.
I urge you to read this post, started by a valued member of our community if you are interested in Henge of Denravi.
We LOVE getting new people, and actually, from what you described as your ideal server, I think Henge would be a great fit for you. We don’t have queues in our WvW maps. But, at the same time, we always have a fair amount of people on in all of the Borderlands as well as EB.
We’re currently in a nailbiting T7 match with GoM and Darkhaven, with only a few thousand points seperating 3rd from 1st, after edging out Henge of Denravi’s first victory in more weeks than I can count during the 1/11-1/18 match up!
I’m sure GoM or DH would also be excellent choices, but I can only speak on behalf of my home @ HoD, and from my understanding, both servers have recently had a formidable number of transfers (might be incorrect) while our population stayed somewhat similar.
I also urge you to stop by our community website @ www.hengeofdenravi.com and check out the vibe around the forums!
Good luck on wherever you decide, but feel free to send me a PM or a whisper in-game if you have any questions. -Braddock.5430
From what I saw tonight, its looks like we will be joining you DH for some WvW. Numbers are good, not zergy and looks balanced.

This is from another post about a guild from Stormbluff Isle that sounds like they are looking for the same thing you are.

I would say no one really loves or ‘likes’ zergs so much as tolerates them as a necessary evil in the current game design of WvW. Zergs take much of the what WvW ‘could be’ out of the game. Mind you it’s not the fault of the players at all. Zergs are simply the most effective way to WvW and the greater the population the more effective it is. It really will be on Anet to somehow come up with solutions to make zergs less necessary in the capture and control or WvW.
However as you move down the tiers, other non-zerg strategies do seem to be somewhat effective. No one is saying soloing in WvW is effective.
I’m going to try to speak for some of FC when i say this, I know we’re tier 8, but we love it down here. Call it ignorance is bliss or whatever but it’s awesome. The WvW is competitive and solid PvE (obviously..we are tier 8 ). I’ve never really had trouble finding a dungeon or world PvE event when i decided to lean that way.
As for WvW,you’ll find guilds down here that thrive on it. The only times you really find zerg vs zerg fighting (and i say that as a zerg down here is considered to be 15-30 people…if that) are at peak times, which i think is what you’re trying to get away from. And the competition since SF came into our WvW is awesome. All 3 servers in tier 8 love the fact that if you want there are chances to run around in 5 man teams are less and take camps, fight defenders, etc.
I will say though, we do take pride in our fighting abilities since we were rolled by Kaining and Devonas (congratz to them btw for ranking up so much) before SF and had to rely on small group tactics/skill vs the oncoming zerg. Anyway, heres a link from a WZ guildie who’s trying to cover recruitment to FC and i think he sums most of it up pretty well.

Good luck to you and your guild though. Hope wherever you choose turns out to be a good fit.
I think you just need to get better at avoiding zergs, build your characters around it.
Sure lower tier servers will have smaller and less zergs, but they also have a lot less population which means you spend all your time looking for a fight.
I play either solo or a small group and to me T3/T4 is ideal, anything lower and it gets boring. DB seems like a fairly stable server, I would just stay there.
Thanks (almost) everyone for the kind words. We have decided on Henge of Denravi and will be transferring there in the near future. I really appreciate the time everyone took to give me their perspective on things. The thoughts and opinions posted in this thread were quite helpful!
Catch you all on the flip side….

Hooray! All of HoD welcomes you with cheers and confetti
Well there are lots to do other then Zerg I’ve run small tactal teams in all upper tiers while lots of zergs are going on you his have to group with like minded people. Saying that I have to say you should come to FA we do run lots of small teams around as well as large ones. To be honest though I think you will find the lower servers suit you best from what I read though….

Glad to hear it — have fun down there!
With the impending termination of free server transfers, I am looking to move to a new server. All I am concerned with is enjoying my WvW. I am currently on Dragonbrand and it is just not working for me.
Zergs.
Oh, holy hell, the zergs. There are zergs everywhere. You can’t run anywhere without running into a group of 20+. I don’t like it. It is mindless and just a bunch of lemmings face-rolling everything. I want to go to a server that has balanced-ish WvW maps without giant zergs sotrming all over the place. I like small skirmishes and tactics, not battles of numbers. I care about who brought the more talented sword, not about who brought more swords. I don’t like loading into a WVW BG to see 12 different sets of crossed swords all over the place.
So. Who out there is on a server with the situation I am looking for? For me, smaller numbers per fight are important. I play for the fun of the WvW fights, not to “win” and try and move up in tiers. Winning does nothing for a server, or for me as a player. Moving up in tiers takes wins, and wins take zergs. It’s not for me.
P.S. With all of that said, I’d also rather not go to a server that is completely dead either. =)
Well, NSP is in tier 6, and yes there are zergs at times, but I know that personally, my guild sets up camp flipping groups and other servers have them as well and we get a good lot of small scale pvp in this tier without being too destitute.
We have an alliance, a running server forum, and most of all, we are fun.
We set up fight clubs with other servers and have a good lot of pvp fun every week.
It’s a happy medium to be in. not too zerg and not too bare, it’s just right. Wouldn’t give nsp up for anything!
Ah, nvm, you already decided. good luck!
Hi everyone,
Hoping the best for you on your new server. As the discussion for this thread has run its course, we are closing it.
Thanks to everyone
