Guild Wars 2

So I have always really been a healer/support in every MMO, however it seems GW 2 does not cater to these roles as much as most MMOs (not a bad thing). But I was wondering if there was a profession I could roll with a lot of support/buff group qualities that would make me valuable to a team while still allowing me to avoid a lot of “in the thick of things” moments.

Well if you want healer/support, you got the option of Guardian or Elementalist. Some classes can output some considerable heals (Mesmer mantras or Necromancer DS healer) but they sort of distract from their main purpose in WvW. For Guardian it comes naturally with more tanky frontline builds and Elementalist dont even need to build for it since they use AoE fields other blast in. Try them out, see what you like.

Elementalist with a staff sounds like a good fit for you. Good support/healing with plenty of options for damage.

For healer: I’d look at Elementalist or Guardian (as suggested above)
For support: Take a peak at Mesmer

If you have HoT, Reventant looks like exactly what you’re asking. I’d also add Tempest(Elementalist) to Support, and Druid(Ranger) is likely to go into that category as well.

I used to only roll healers in MMOs.

Then I tried GW2’s mesmer — haven’t looked back since. (Not even remotely a healer, but GW2 isn’t remotely similar mechanically to other games out there, too).

This. I recommend you make all 3. Elementalist, Guardian and mesmer. Guardians are simplest to play extremely survivable and healy, elementalists are great at everything, but can be tough to keep yourself up until you really learn how to play it. Mesmer has a bit weaker support, but most interesting by far to play, different then any profession in any other MMORPG you have played, and I think most flexible because of stealth, so you can enjoy it for a wider variety of purposes.

Just a side note: A basic support Mesmer can be run by just using Signet of Inspiration and Prismatic Understanding. They both give you a random boon every few seconds (one while in stealth) and you can use Staff to create even more boons onto yourself and those around you while remaining in stealth. Then activate the Signet to give ALL of those boons to 5 people around you. If there’s anyone else around tossing out a few boons, it becomes VERY entertaining… so much stability!

Also, Mass Invisibility, Portal, and Veil are amazing WvW tools.

Just wanted to clarify that a Support Mesmer is not a typical support class, nor a healer, but does what it does well. And is fun.
