Guild Wars 2

Well this may come as a surprise to some people, but I want to transfer out of TC. It is a fun server, great community and I even have guildies I enjoy playing with.

The problem is, WvW has gotten boring as my computer can no longer handle the server load. Since we’ve moved to Tier 1 and our server has begun to grow, it is sometimes not just WvW that is rendered “immersion breaking laggy”. I can have some fun, but it all feels ruined when suddenly I can barely control my character until we change zone and hope the zergs don’t follow. Either way, it breaks my immersion, which is why I play these games.

I’m looking for a lower population server to transfer to that will still offer an active environment in WvW. (I’m a former refuge of DH, which seemed empty 4-5 months ago) I like small scale skirmishes of about 1v1 to 8v8, although sometimes just running with a small zerg (~20-30) and capping towers like they were properties in monopoly can be relaxing and fun. I hope to find a nice guild who likes to get out there and kill some people, play the game to have fun, but still try to win and improve ourselves.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and further thanks to those who take the time to respond. I don’t get a lot of time to play, so I value my time in-game, and don’t want to spend an hour waiting for the lag to stop. (I think the most my computer can handle in a zone on lowest graphics is about 60 players total, none of these 40 3 way battles)

Also if anyone is wondering, I play a thief, but I’m wanting to move to Ele, and I spend most of my time in either pvp or wvw.

try t3 or t4 from SBI to IoJ

Any t3 or t4 you can personally recommend? I loved that video of ehmry bay (I think) of these all charging people as a stampede of dolyaks. XD People who know how to have some fun and let loose are my cup of tea. Its why I crackle still when I see people spending hours in divinity’s reach playing music for money. Makes the game feel alive.

Someone recommended Sorrow’s Furnace to me, it looks interesting. I was just a little worried of its current population dying down like Darkhaven did.

Crystal Desert has good zerg drivers and some roamers, but we’re lacking coverage. There are usually good fights to be found though.

I was on SF a while back, it is/was the unofficial ‘spanish speaking’ servers, so you might want to double check that if you want to go there.

FC if you like small man theres a billion guilds here who run 1-8 only

I wish there was at least one t3-6 server (although I don’t know how empty t6 is nowadays) that stood out in the way TC does. The people are so nice on this server, I’ve never met anyone I didn’t like who wasn’t an enemy. In fact, our enemies seem even more ruthless than my old server DH, where I could probably sip some tea with most people I bumped into in WvW. I don’t mind evil bad guys, but I want my team to feel like were fighting the good fight XD. With a sprinkle of what the hell did that guy just do. And rarely do we feel completely powerless, except to the Anet servers themselves.

Thanks so far for all the feedback, I will be toughing it out on TC for now anyway, so more feedback is very welcome. I’m also enjoying all the threads that try to label servers…some of them are great, some I’d feel ashamed…as much as you can in a video game. XD

Dont leave T1. I am in t3 and faced some t2 servers and is pretty empty the WvW.

I was on server of bottom tiers and is the dead… you have to walk a lot for a fight if you roam or stick to the only current zerg around doing PvD.

And will be worst in the next months. Dont leave t1.

IoJ is a good option in the middle tiers. They’re currently rank 12.
The server is stable (going up in ranks as servers above have internal fallouts)

and has relatively good coverage for a server in the middle of the tier range. If T1 is bothering your processor then you’ll probably do well anywhere from server rank 10-15.

Only issue I see, because the servers are losing people, you will be pushed up to face dragonbrand. We all know NNK rather face doors then players.

You can always come back to Dh. It really depends on your view of “empty”. Pretty much every map will always have 1-2 roaming parties in it from Dh, as well as 1-2 round the clock pug zergs (1 in eb, and often 1 in a bl). Dh has very well rounded coverage compared to other servers in our area, so if you’re looking for a server lower down I’d definitely choose Dh (biased but I think the reasons are solid regardless).

T4 is good to avoid zergs, but if you play during north American primetime, you need to go all the way down to t5 to avoid the zerg, even borlis pass ques eternal most nights in primetime.

In my opinion, T2 is the place to be. We don’t get the lag of T1 or the inactivity of the lower tiers, it is a nice balance here. I would either pick FA or Mags, that way we can compete with the coverage and population of SoS, which are heading in the direction of T1.5 like as you know TC was for months. I would also recommend DB, they are fun to fight and are on the rise again. Also if you like server stability, FA is the place to be, from memory I do not recall us ever being a bandwagon or tanking server. We have been in T2 it seems like forever. Overall I think T2 with FA, Mags and SoS is the best tier to be in for balanced game play and fun.

What would you consider the “great desolation”? I’ve been on Dh since the start, playing off and on though. I mean 1-2 roaming parties from Dh, probably 1-2 from each other server as well (depending on the servers). But yeah, low tier there will be times where you don’t find fights. If you’re playing prime time and roaming, there is no shortage of quality small scale engagements.

I was mostly trying to be funny with the “great desolation”, but I know along with my guild many big ones left, and for weeks our server was so disorganized, I dropped WvW. Which led me to TC.

Only thing that really worries me about tier 2 is the possibility of moving to tier 1. If I’m going to go through the trouble of deleting my 80 (don’t want to spend money on transfer) and starting over, I want to be sure I’ll get at least a good year from it. Although, I suppose a t3 server could theoretically drop to t6 over a few months if things go bad with match-ups and guilds want to leave.

I think from what I’ve heard, I don’t want to drop below t5. (but I’ll check out DH again, as I have some fond memories there) I like getting on during prime time, or during a reset, but I play more often during the off-hours. (9pm-2am est) *obviously not in a row XD

If I get the guts to delete my 80, I’ll prob create a bunch of characters on all the promising servers. Which for now it is still quite a long list, only ones I’ve eliminated between rank 8-18 are SbI, BP and Yak’s Bend. (Some just because I don’t like the names XD)

Also I just want to mention how awesome it is to get so many responses, and I’m even getting Pms; makes me realize how nice our community is here on gw2 compared to many other games.

Edit: I think the first servers I’ll check are IoJ, HoD, CD, NSP, DH, SF, FC, and DB. They all seem to offer something cool, although 7 servers will take me a while. I should be able to get a feel for the lag, and community by playing and asking around in-game.

Good thing to point out, but DB offers great opportunities to zergbust for IoJ guilds. They do have superior OCX coverage compared to us. (we’re normally considered to have good ocx coverage)

DB being rank 8, their community and coverage is just in an entirely different place from where we are, in the same way that IoJ’s WvW community and coverage is in a different place from DH (currently rank 16)

Ioj would have fun fighting db, IOj wouldn’t be completely dominated during oceanic like most of the other sub t2 servers are.

Yeah, TC is the new SoR and currently the strongest server in WvW. They climbed the ranks and when SoR couldn’t keep up with BG and JQ in the PPT game, they transferred to TC (understandable move but it really messes up the balance when you move 100+ dedicated WvW players to one server). I would suggest what others have and move to IoJ, DB, or SoS. I would try to stay away from T3 if you enjoy constant WvW action though.

The community’s leaders, founders, and members are committed towards rebuilding its WvW reputation and population such that it’ll be more welcoming and inviting for both Hardcore and Casual players. It will likely stabilize towards the bottom of NA servers. It’s hard to say where it will land for now.

I ended up rolling onto FA first. I spoke to the people online, and it seems fun. I’ll try it tonight, and if all goes bad, I’ll just wait until next week to try a new server on a lower tier. Thanks for all the help here. Also, if FA ever made it to tier 1, I may have made enough gold for the gems to transfer by then. Wish me luck, and anyone from tier 2, I look forward to playing with you and against you.

Yes, it’s a lil’ known fact but you can transfer to any server. Just when it’s not a tier 1 server there’s a slight fee.

Don’t go to EBay, CD, YB, or DB. They’re filled with siege humping and intense mediocrity, as well as a misplaced desire to PPT in a tier where nothing matters. Mag hasn’t rolled much lower than T4 in aeons, but BP had some fairly good guilds who were interested in improving and liked open-field. That said Mag has had a few pubmanders xfer from BP/SBI to Mag for various reasons, so I no longer know if that’s the case.

I don’t know a lot about the servers lower than T4, but here’s where I wouldn’t xfer:

YB: filled with bad pubs, bad commanders, and bad guilds. Siege monkeys galore.

DB: NA essentially sits on siege and hides in structures/PvEs during non-SEA/OCX hours. NNK and TFV spend 6h throwing themselves at doors to artificially inflate DB’s score.

EBay: I’ve heard that several guilds have left the server because it’s dying/is a cesspool. When we fought EBay they spent all night siege-creeping and building open-field siege or running to towers/keeps because god forbid you fight open-field.

Rall: Who knows. They’ve been in free-fall for a few weeks now, and TW leaving has only accelerated that process. I’d avoid it until they settle somewhere.

Welcome to FA! Don’t worry about FA going to tier 1. This won’t happen for the foreseeable future. If you are playing during NA prime, I would suggest joining a wvw guild. Unless you want to mostly roam, you won’t always find a commander tag on map.

It hasn’t changed, it’s improved a bit if anything.

IoJ doesn’t really post a lot of recruitment messages, I’m not sure the exact reason for that. I guess in general people aren’t interested in moving up the ladder any more; they’re happy with the scale of the fights, or would even prefer to see us drop a bit for smaller fights.

We’ve been slowly moving up simply due to servers around us losing guilds and IoJ staying roughly the same size. We’ve remained fairly stable for the last 6-ish months. One downside of this though is there’s an outside chance in the near future of facing DB/SBI more regularly, depending on where SBI/SoR settle after recent events. I don’t think there’s anyone on the server interested in T3-sized fights.

The server has a broad range of players. In general, there’s definitely a PPT emphasis, but there are a number of guilds who prefer to look for fights instead of PPT, and there’s maybe 2 guilds left who GvG.

Like every server, there’s a healthy number of fairweathers, but there’s a good core of people who are going to show up regardless, and not ragequit when things get too lopsided. The better part of the people who suffered at the bottom of Silver through Season 1 have pretty much seen the worst of it and are still around. Many people have been on the server since launch and so I’ve seen the same names most days.
