Hello folks,
I played GW2 a while back. 100% spvp. I am not maxed out, just got burnt out from only pvping.
I just got back into the game. A lot has changed. I read on these forums that Isle of Janthir is not a very good WvW server. I noticed that this server is ranked almost near the bottom. Like tier 7 or something, as of June 17, 2015. I don’t understand how this all works, the rankings and all.
I am looking for an active server, realm, world, or whatever that has competitive WvW teams playing at prime time for my time zone.
I am not looking for OP, hand holding. I just want to find an active server/guild that is competitive and likes to do WvW and actually wins sometimes in their tier.
Like I said, I vaguely understand how this ranking, tier thing works.
Any advice, pointers, ideas, leads, clues? I would appreciate anything. thanks in advance.

At the moment I think there is only room on the Tarnished Coast for T1. Doesn’t have the queues like other servers.

The higher you go the more zergy it gets. Tier 4 has been getting some pretty unbalanced match ups lately. I prefer T5-6, you can get map queues during prime time but the roaming is still pretty solid. AR is a fun server if you join a guild or like to solo roam. Not the best if you need a pug tag to follow.

Ok, I don’t have a full grasp of the tiers yet. It seems simple, but do all T1 play ONLY other T1 servers? Like I said, I think Isle of Janthir is like T7? but I also read that of the 3 servers in that tier, 2 of the 3 are getting wrecked by one server and the 2 that are losing refuse to group up. The main thing I am looking for is just active players that play WvW. Guilds that actually have players who want to group up and take down other players or keeps or w/e. Sorry if I sound so ignorant. I only did pvp and I wanted to try something else.

Thanks Puck, that was a great link. I did noticed, after looking at the history, that my server was 3rd almost every time. lol. It looks like it’s some round robin match up. what do you recommend? Those are a lot of numbers. What does it mean to “pug tag” I know pug is pick up group, but what do you mean by tag? so Anvil Rock is pretty solid?

If you only played sPvP, then think of WvW like a giant sPvP match where one team starts with someone who dc’d or quit for some reason so that they are always fighting outnumbered. Doesn’t make for a true competitive match, does it?

The rankings listed at the link given to you above are merely a measure of which teams have more players on during a 24/7 time period.

So the first question to ask is what timezone do you play in? The second question is what kind of WvW experience are you looking for, i.e. large zerg fights, small-man roaming fights, good mixture of both, etc.?

Pug tag means a commander that leads the random people that haven’t found a regular group to run with.

AR has a ton of small roaming/havok groups running most of the day. During North American prime time a lot of the guilds like to do their own runs and they don’t put up a commander tag because they don’t want random people following them.

We almost never have more than 1 person tagged up for the pugs but if you join one of the bigger guilds you shouldn’t have a problem finding people to run with.

LGN, LXG, TM, ALS all open recruit and will help you learn the ropes. Once you find your footing you can check out some of our smaller roaming guilds. If you come to AR make sure you have team speak and a thick skin because we love to kitten with each other over TS. It weirds me out when I listen to other servers TS and how polite and boring they are.

Well, Tier 1 probably has the greatest parity in NA right now, but part of the reason that matches are so even-sided is that many guilds now have accounts on at least 2 of the Tier 1 servers, so if 1 server has a very low score, whole guilds can just log in on that server instead of their “Home Server”, to fight against the people they usually would fight alongside for a week. If you don’t have at least 2 accounts, it’s becoming harder and harder to recommend T1 NA atm. Things are weird here…

What all the hoola boils down to is the following:

Pick
Tarnished Coast, Blackgate, Jade Quarry, Fort Aspenwood, Sea of Sorrows, Yak’s Bend and you’ll be fine and have a good time.

If you enjoy running mostly huge battles pick the 1st 3. Otherwise the 2nd 3.

Pick any other server and you will just screw yourself once you learn what all those guys that posted above are talking about and once it hits you in the game. You will end up either transferring or quitting altogether.

Well, you wanted info, here it is, plain and simple as day and night. Now make your choice.

Pick any of the 1 through 15 servers and you will have fun. At the end of the day it is just a numbers game and 24×7 coverage that separates them. It isn’t skill so don’t let the rankings fool you. Seriously.

There are things people pointed out that are critical like queues but other than that any of the 15 are fine. Few of them are falling due to transfers but that gets back to my numbers and wall clock coverage – not because their player base sucks. Just drama and age

You could look at the current rankings then ask yourself a few questions:

Do you have a easy time talking to, or meeting new people?
Do you mind queues?
How competitive are you?
Do you follow or lead?
Are you shy?
Do you have a ego?

May sound like dumb questions but every server has clicks. Some are not as friendly to new players until they get to know them due to transfers, etc. I guess what I’m trying to say it isn’t just the server or ranking but more of how you play and what may make you comfortable.

Even the servers on the bottom side of the list still have fun. WvW is what you make of it and that of the player base. Best of luck.

You must also look at server status… Some said t1 or t2, yet 5 of those 6 are full whenever I look….. If it’s full, you can’t go there.

you have to watch, hope, and pray that it goes high for a brief period of time in off hours……

Sea of Sorrows is your best choice yb and fa are okey but they full of hate, sos is the friendliest server of them all
