Losing coin playing WvW
Do not upgrade all the kitten by yourself. Let other people take some duty as well. Although I don’t understand why Anet made us to spend money to upgrade those stuff, where PvE players don’t have to upgrade those portals and npcs to save the towns.
Well yeah it would be good if they scrap the costs of upgrading and solely used supplies, maybe spend Karma upgrading
Im not sure about others but im losing coins from playing WvW due to upgrading and buying blueprints. The coin rewards for doing events don’t seem high enough, what motive would I have into upgrading a keep when all ill do it lose 37 silvers and not get enough back although i play it a good few hours a day.
it’s the price we pay..
repairs drains my coin but mostly because i’d kamikaze in there with no fear of dying if it means downing an enemy siege
imo.. gotta balance it, some pve, some wuvwuv
imo.. gotta balance it, some pve, some wuvwuvcan’t stay in wuvwuv all the time you’ll get drained.. repairs alone are..

I am under the assumption those gold costs were put in there for one reason. To sell gems. They probably thought people were going to buy gems to convert them into coin to pay for their WvW. But at the current exchange rate nobody is going to.
Gold costs have no business in WvW. The guy with more gold to burn should not have any advantage.
I think everything in WvW shoudl cost Badges of Honor and Supplies. Thats it. It would make upgrading a lot more hard then it is now and it would make keeps not so invincible.

WvW is a gold sink. Simple. The game is new so gold is hard to come by, as the game ages later however – it will become almost necessary to help the economy, especially if gear stays so cheap.
People will complain about the price now, but if they wait and put up the price later, it will give older players more of an advantage and create the ever feared divide between newcomers and older characters, which will not only create more complaints but also discourage newbies from playing.
It’s also good in the sense that (… mostly.) it stops spamming of siege equipment to the point where there is no hope for the offensive (losing) team (even moreso than now with weekly match ups)
I can spam crap tons of seige with using my badges of honor.
How about this. Keeps/Garrisons and Towers/Supply camps require only badges/karma/supplies to upgrade where as seige’s require only gold.

I think ANet is looking WvW as a gold sink. Otherwise I think everything in WvW should be freed from gold, just like PvE.
Actually using gold gained from PvE on WvW just doesn’t seem right.
They should just make a separate currency that is for WvW only. They made Glory for sPvP. Why not make Glory for WvW. You then buy siege, repairs & upgrades in WvW with Glory.
I am sure they can make it so we attain Glory at a balanced rate so it will not be incredibly easy to buy a bunch of siege or upgrades.
Seems like a kitten simple solution to me. Remove badges, implement Glory and have gold mean nothing in WvW just like sPvP.
I don’t mind the costs for upgrading but it should be an investment.
Have the upgrade pay back in full over the span of a period of time.
Perhaps 50c per 15 minutes? That’s 2s per hour.
If an upgrade costs 10s, it’d take 5 hours of occupancy to return the initial investment. After that, one starts making money. This also provides incentives to defending.
I would love to see possible upgrades with influence since guilds claim the keeps and towers after all
spending badges of honor for upgrading keeps doesn’t seem fair since those are a personal reward. Also increasing the amount of gold that you get for WvW is not a solution because most people would just use it to farm instead of actually helping their server with it.
I’d like to point out that, in an indirect way, you DO get a return on coin you invest into towers.
Let’s start first with taking a tower. When you successfully assault a tower every player who participated gets an event medal, that’s every player earning a few silver. Even just a group of twenty or so generates 50 silver total or more as a reward. Subtract the cost of siege, and you have some initial profit to invest in upgrades.
Then comes defence. An upgraded tower is easier to defend, and while defending you get a medal every three minutes. That means every three minutes coin is being generated that can be further invested either now or in the future in upgrades, armour repair, and siege.
Sure, the return is split into small increments among many players, but those small rewards for each players adds up over time.
I cant agree on it being a return over time, you dont sit in the fort all game and move about, even then any event rewards you get i see is like 2. something silvers, if your upgrading something 20x’s the silver your making you’d have to play all day and not upgrade anything else. Theres already a sink hole for gold in the game, you should be able to make gold in WvW just as PvE, otherwise how else can one get legendary weapons if no gold is being made.
And another point, the loot sucks! havnt got any items above blue yet it would be nice if there were better drops.
I hear numerous people say they WvW less, or not at all because of repair costs.
@ Slyther.1297, Why make another currency for WvW? We have one already. Its earned from WvW and its called Badges of Honor.

Unfortunately badge drop is both nerfed and broken, since as a loot item it seems to be affected the the loot cap/diminishing returns system, so the more you WvW, the less badges you get.
As far as spending money on upgrades goes, the cost should at least be lower. I’m on Emhry, fairly low-pop, and we’ve been getting pretty well stomped in our most recent matchup with TC and Maguuma. There was a period when I was literally the only one on the map buying upgrades. Spent 6g, as a solo player. Basically, if your side is losing badly, nobody wants to put money into a keep that in all likelihood won’t last much longer than the upgrade time. Since nobody wants to put money into upgrades, you’ve got a bunch of completely naked keeps, towers, and supply camps, and get rolled almost immediately when the enemy decides to push. Same goes for siege. Nobody wants to spend money putting up defensive siege in a keep you’ll in all likelihood lose regardless, and it just keeps snowballing like that.
One solution would be to put in a Karma/Gold/Exp reward for the “Defend the Workers Upgrading the Keep” event that pops up if you put in money. Another good thing would be the option to put in a percentage of the coin for the upgrade. That way, you wouldn’t have one person dropping 1.5g on the final keep wall upgrade, which is almost enough to buy a piece of exotic armor or a weapon you can actually use.
I’ve tried asking for donations towards upgrades when I’m tapped out, like “If we all put in 10s we can get the waypoint up at x keep,” but GW being what it is right now 90% of players just assume you’re trying to scam them, and of the other 10% maybe one or two will send you something which barely puts in a dent.
I said nothing about a new currency NoizeMaker, please reread my post.
And I wouldn’t call being 5k points behind Maguuma getting “stomped”. It’s a pretty even match-up, TC only pulled ahead as far as they did because they’re good at holding their map and get some point advantage during the night.
I have gotten event medals for protecting the workers, though it seems to be random… I haven’t figured out how to trigger contribution for that yet, perhaps defending the location if it comes under attack while it’s upgrading?
And I don’t think WvW suffers from the anti-farm code as far as I can tell, I earned a good 100 badges yesterday.
Sly, it usually doesn’t kick in from normal play, but I’ve noticed the drop behavior following the pattern in long sieges, especially when operating AoE siege weapons like arrow carts and cannons. Was defending the Bay keep from constant attack for about an hour and was getting roughly one badge per 5 kills at the beginning, but around the end I was barely getting a loot sack for every 10. Basically in normal WvW you’re killing a lot less players than you are mobs in PvE, but the mechanic does kick in when you’re racking up kills in specific situations. Not game-breaking but still incredibly annoying.
Far as getting stomped goes, I was mostly playing our Borderland and, in that area at least, we were getting flat-out crushed as soon as primetime rolled around every day =p
Well apparently I cant edit my post. Anyways I ment that post to “Mog” not you Slyther. Simply my eyes made me copy the wrong name.

I would have to agree with some things costing to much. My pet hate has to be the armour repair costs. Playing as a warrior your expected to get up close and personal but the main thing that stops me from doing this is a hefty repair bill every time I get knocked down which is inevitable playing as such close quarters…
