Low end servers are dying

People would rather have a sure thing than a challenge.
There’s no reason not to be doing this because the free transfers, once those stop it’s going to be hard to move an entire guild. Right now there’s really no excuse, especially for the 100+ member guilds that could genuinely make a difference on their own.
Hell ya, a big guild could pull that server up throught some ranks in no time and breather a bit of life back into it.

Things will settle down eventually, but it will likely take a couple of months for this to happen. It’s still early days, we’re only into the third matchup of week longs. Give people time to establish ties to their servers. I personally wouldn’t want success based on the efforts of people who don’t actually want to be on my server, but have no choice. It creates a lot of bad blood which I would hate to see on TC, which has for the most part a great WvW community. Let the server hoppers go where they will. Concentrate on your server’s core community, and generate whatever successes you can with them.
Low end server might never win but WvW on one is a lot more fun if you have a small 5 man team to run with.
Also little to no queue time on a low end server.
Untill it moves up the ranks.

I agree. This past week WvW is almost completely empty. There are probably 100 players total across all 4 maps on my world. Before, we could fill up the player limit and hold a 100 player queue for hours.
My world is definitely not what it used to be. And I think the design flaws in WvW are really demoralizing the player base on the losing end, and encouraging band-wagon jumping.
People would rather have a sure thing than a challenge.
This is really the long and short of it. The culture isn’t of server pride or identification but of a craving to win. Which, really, when you look at it, while it has boons and benefits, fighting an assured victory is boring. It lacks challenge and is generally vapid. But for some people the end is less important than the struggle. The bragging rights more important than the good fight.
Until Anet does something about the trasfers the lower end servers are going to take huge hit after hit. As someone said above, people do not want to fight for anything, they just want the easy lootz handed to them. This is how the problem started. EB started off very strong with a huge win over its first 2 servers. After the past 2 week long matches, of getting our kitten kicked in, the WvW map is empty. This is because all of the People who moved to us the first week moved on to the server that won the past two weeks.
Until they fix the orb buff, and the free mass transfers nothing is going to change, and you will see the bottom servers ghosts towns, with the other servers having mass Que times.
To be honest, I’m not sure how welcome a big guild would be on our server especially if it comes along thinking it’s going to take the place over and ‘make it competitive’. We’ve had a few people scout out our server for their guild and they’ve told us we should be doing this and should be doing that without realising that those things are already happening simply because people take it upon themselves to get those things done without being ordered to.
The smaller servers’ biggest problem is numbers and getting rolled during off-peak hours, both of which hurt morale, but having some guild from one of the easy mode servers try and take over without taking the time to know how the server runs, or which people are reliable and worth listening to, or where the strengths and weaknesses lie is just going to create bad blood and undo a lot of the work that the “natives” have done over the weeks.
All are welcome to Whiteside, especially those who are able to play during the EU night, but please don’t come here like Hitler into Poland. You’d be doing more harm than good.

Low end servers aren’t dying, low end servers is where the fun is to have.
I like how there was a new transfer guild that came over to my server talking about strategizing and coordination while ‘we’ were painting half of the borderlands our color.
Sadly, our prime time is about… 4-6 hours. And even then, the outmanned buff can still happen during that time.
In the lowest ranking match, the best server usually holds 100% of the map, has twice to three times the PvE rewards than the servers in the top WvW matches. Players can freely explore WvW and earn tons of badges doing so. Then create another character and do it all over.
I predict that in the lowest tier WvW matches, this trend will continue. Two servers will be populated by the unknowing and one server will dominate them, having ots of players who user server changes to game the system.
This is the inevitable result of the emergent meta, and Anet says “working as designed.” There’s no incentive to stay, much less go to, a low pop server if you are a WvWer, and huge incentives to go to a high pop server.
Maybe people tired of huge queues will come down to your servers? You can hope.
A big guild coming to save a smaller server that already has a tight community may see the welcome mat pulled out from under their feet.
This would especially be the case if the large guild tries to mold the server instead of attempting to fit in.
“Did you see that? Tell me you saw that!”
A big guild cant save a small pop server. Becuase a big guild cant give it 24/7 coverage. Unless the guild is insulated from frustration it cant carry the server by itself.
Why? If you are a WvW guild, you want organised opposition, you do not want to farm PUGs of disorganised randoms. This you will never get on a small pop server as it will never rise in the rankings to reach the matchups that offers a good fight.
Stop free transfers to leave alliances and guilds stranded on low pop servers? Then you will have people getting frustrated with and quitting the game instead.
So no respectable guild or alliance DARES moving to a low pop server because ArenaNet might disable free transfers tomorrow stranding them there.

Whiteside Ridge are desperate for my WvW people at the moment, currently we have around 30 people in eternal and 20 in one other borderland, other 2 are empty because they are overrun.

Absolutely this. That’s why it won’t happen.

Yeah no realm pride… nothing, this is why I think you should be able to see names and gear dye. Otherwise your just an anonymous player loosing on a kitteny server. Also why bother sticking around, when you can transfer to somewhere were you win all the time.

“The last data I saw had an overwhelming majority of transfers from servers with long queu times (generally from winning servers), to servers with short queu times (generally to losing servers). There are some people going to the winning servers, but the simple truth is the vast majority are not.”
— Colin Johansen, game director.
I definitely believe that quote if it was in the first week of long queue times.
Had they done what I suggested in a rollup thread, this post probably wouldn’t be here, instead, we all transferred off all of the low pop servers, and more transfer each day! yay!
Here’s a tip, many medium ranked servers have absolutely no queue anymore… and plenty of people.

He made that quote last night.
