Lower the Rank Requirement for Armor
Tbh the rank requirement is just a lazy work. Why cant they cost more ticket, and make fun achievements? Like kill 50 players with treb for 2 tickets, kill 20 ppl in 10 seconds for another, 15 keeps for another 1-2, Kill lord without anyone in the squad getting downed etc – these are just random ideas i came up with in seconds.
Every 5th or 10th rank chest gives another 1-2. Making ranks matter, but not a requirement
Also, better daily achievements. capture 10 towers for 1 ticket etc. It would reward active playing without relying on the stupid afk-able participation system (which should be reworked either way) and active wvw players would still earn it sooner, because they play more wvw.
Then, after 6-12 months, just change the armors a bit, give their effect a recolor and reintroduce it as t4-t5 etc (smth like it was in wow with the pvp gears), every new sets requires the pervious tier to craft, also give them titles, in case some ppl doesnt like the look but want to show off their dedication. I dont think it would require more than a few developers, just like raids (prolly even fewer)
I know its not gonna happen, but its a lazy work as it is right now. They probably wont touch it for 2 years, thats why the high rank requirement.
Sorry for my english.
I agree, if they don’t lower the rank req (which I hope they do) it’s an indication that they aren’t going to touch wvw for a long time, and the game is transitioning into a long term grindy mmo, due to lack of development of new content.

I think rank req is fine. But it doesn’t feel like after all these years your rewarded for keeping wvw alive for the dedicated player. Its like you’ve been a loyal wvw player and now you get something nice but oh wait take the next year and keep playing to earn all 3 armors and a backpack. But its there desire to force wvw population back up for gear grind. With the amount grind (with current 175 tickets per week) tier 3 armor should be legendary class.
2000 is very reasonable compared to all other game modes. Well done Anet!
Compared to other game modes; no it certainly is not.
It most certainly is.
Your wall of text was all guess work and conjecture. As you said, crude math which is meaningless math.
Your premise that because legendary takes X long, therefore T3 wvw ascended should be Y long is pulled out of thin air. There is nothing that anet has ever said where these things should be equivalent.
As for insults from wvw people. Calling snowflake arguments a snowflake argument isn’t insulting, its an observation.
Again, well done Anet.
And what argument do you provide to support your opinion on 2k rank requirement being fair? Is it because that’s the rank requirement that Anet set?
Newsflash: Anet has and does make poor decisions from time to time. There isn’t a completely free flow of inter-team communication so it’s happened before that one aspect of the game seems well designed whereas an analogous aspect in a different game mode does not.
I gurantee you that had June 6th rolled around, and the rank requirement been originally set at 1k or 1.5k, the few of you praising the 2k rank requirement wouldn’t have lifted a single finger to argue that it should be higher.

This is completely true. I don’t understand why wvwers defend r 2000 so blindly with no real reasoning that can’t be completely contradicted.

Life isnt fair. you CHOSE not to play WvW when leveling was easier. Likewise i CHOSE not to invest into PvE and learning how to play fractals.
CHOICES HAS CONSEQUENCES
And FYI, my WvW level is below 750. I dont expect to hit 2k anytime soon given how little i play. But i am not going to cry-bully my way to making it easier.
WvW never gets anything nice. Our achievements takes YEARS to complete due to the ridiculous amount of kills/escorts/flips you need. And we get rewarded with nearly nothing. So when WvW finally gets a good reward for the countless hours it takes to get where we are, then you have no right to come here and cry bully your way to make it easy.
Your whole post is infact a giant “middle finger” to all WvW players, past and present.
The issues with your argument: You’re acting as if you need to be able to start a lvl 100 Fractal to obtain the Fractal Backpack. You don’t. You don’t have to earn a single level in Fractals.. You can start the collection off without ever having set foot in there before.
The only thing that will in any way gate you is Agony resistance. You know how to get this? Buy 3072 +1 Agony Infusions go trade them in for 12 +8 Agony Infusions and 6 +9 Agony Infusions at the INFUZ-5959 golem inside the Mistlock Observatory. It’ll cost you ~63g 50s. Apply Infusions to armor and trinkets. Done. You can now complete all Backpack related achievements.
You compare that to grinding rank 2000 in WvW? Please allow me to snicker a bit.
There is a false equivalency being used here. People are trying to equate how long it takes to get armor X and assuming armor Y should be similar in length. Anet made no such claim and using as a fact is disingenuous.
The armor requirements are fine. Sure some people want things easy and will make up whatever arguments they can concoct to justify their position. But none of it is based on any published statements from Anet.
I gurantee you that had June 6th rolled around, and the rank requirement been originally set at 1k or 1.5k, the few of you praising the 2k rank requirement wouldn’t have lifted a single finger to argue that it should be higher.

Because they already slashed the requirements necessary for most of the wvw achievements with the release of HOT. Many r2000 and above players likely got those achievements or close to under the old system. Lowering this new T3 reward requirement to make it available to rank 1000 people, who could very well be people that came in with the Hot reduced achievements would be a double slap to anyone who played through it all.
[HaHa] Hazardous Hallucination
No other game mode has a system which tracks for 4 years that goes to rank 10k.
achievement points
that’s game wide, wvw has them too
If you started from 0 Achievement points. Only did WvW, you’d spend 3 years to get to 10k achievement points. Assuming you did all the WvW dailies and got ALL the WvW achievements.
you can get 10k achivement points in PvE in just 5-6 months if you have all the Living story stuff unlocked.
So cut it out with your strawman arguments.
achievement points are not game mode specific, my argument was game mode specific
Achievement points are not. The efficient acquisition IS.
But hey, if you keep making strawman arguments, you’ll have enough scarecrows to protect a texan ranch

I made 18 gold last week. Most of which was from 2g daily completion.

You are technically correct. This is Anet’s game and they have indeed never made any sort of statement that rewards should be equivocal nor have they implied it.
It’s a reasonably valid comparison though: it’s ascended armor to (essentially) ascended armor. The assumption is that the end goal is to achieve ascended armor of some sort by spending time in a particular game mode so now we have the most important variables set constant and can examine/compare one variable between game modes, which is the time it takes to achieve that armor.
While some people want the T3 armor easy, others like myself do not. If I wanted it easy, I’d be complaining about the skirmish ticket acquisition rate because honestly that’s more a of a limiting factor given how close I am to rank 2000.
I take issue with the rank requirement because after 2.5 years of playing a game mode, I’m being told that I’m not eligible to earn a piece of gear related to that game mode which is not reasonable. No other piece of gear in the entire game is that harsh in terms of time commitment. I’m also not alone in this sentiment as there are plenty of other players in the same boat; wvw veterans who have been playing the game mode as intended for 1 or more years but do not yet have rank 2000 because they don’t K-train or command. Everyone (about 12-15 players now from my server) I have talked to that isn’t a tag has given me the same stats: about 1 rank per hour of gameplay and about 1000 ranks earned per year playing the game. Perhaps these are only as reliable as anecdotes or case studies but it’s more evidence than you’re providing that rank 2000 is reasonable.
Because people are then going to reach an agreement to kill each other on turns to get those tickets. WvW has witnessed such abuse before when tournaments were first introduced. Players on opposing servers were gathering in camps and took turns in capping them without attacking each other. Towers, even keeps were traded this way between servers. And all that when rewards were about getting achievements for the meta achievement. Imagine what kind of abuse would happen if tickets were involved.
I think it would be fairer, both the veterans and the new ones, that T3 should be Legendary Armor, the veterans doubt that they no longer have full ascendent for what char they have, so it has no long-term motivation, to keep them even more, and New is a great incentive. Example is my case (low rank in WvW)
Game at 1 year and 10 months, only WvW, nor full open map I have, average 2.3 hours per day, during the week, a little more weekend, I’m already full ascendent in my main character. Rank 755 in WvW, for min is a continuation of playing, because I can mount another ascendent set for another character that I choose or wait to set up a legendary set or wing.
For the veterans, I see no reason (except for the love of WvW) to continue with the same enthusiasm, since this must already be full Ascendent, majority has PvP Legendary Wing. Nothing expressive to say that is from WvW. So now that there is something for WvW you tell those veterans over 4 that they need to play for another 2 years or more to get something Legendary from WvW. It’s disheartening.

Because most people who WvW frequently have this rank without grinding. We have suffered through the least updated game mode in the history of this game and there needs to be SOMETHING that PvE people can’t just walk in, cry about, and get with no work. This is fair. Don’t like it? Earn some rank.

Requiring only rank 1000 would not be something anyone could walk in and do. I have played since Beta and I am almost at 600 with some concerted effort this last week, and I would not have a problem with needing another 400 levels, but needing 1400 more is just ridiculous.

Have you played WvW since beta?
I really wouldn’t mind of they lower the rank requirement. I am currently rank 7000. I am a roamer and a zerger. I have also done all the pve stuff. I get the arguments both ways. At the end of the day I think it should be a high rank req but maybe 2k is a bit much. On the same token it is also a great way for them to sell boosters. Which are currently available in BL Chests I think. I also have done very few EOTM achieves outside of running around that map while waiting on a queued EB or BL. You can literally run rings around EB or a BL and tag guards, sentrys, random players, gates, walls, AC’s, build, repair and throughout the time you remain on that map you will randomly be awarded WxP when your zerg or havocs or roamers flip, cap, take whatever it was you hit.
I am “That” guy you have all heard about.

How sure are you that people won’t argue for 500 rank then?
Oh one can never be sure but I think a rank req of at least 1000 is a better requirement because:
- It’s a rank milestone, you unlock every possible wvw rank “mastery” at rank 1000.
- It is not a simple task; someone can not come in and grind for a month or two and hit rank 1000.
- It would be more inclusive of the core of majority of players that regularly play wvwand have kept the game mode alive since so many of them are close to or above rank 1000.
So essentially rank 1000 req does everything the rank 2000 req does. It prevents new or casual players from receiving handouts while also expanding the amount of people to include more players who deserve the reward. Unfortunately roamers/havoc still get stiffed but there really isn’t much that can be done at that point since lowering the req to 500 may be too low.

Obviously, I have only put on a dozen or so levels over the last week. I have been doing a little most nights, but I certainly don’t live there. It can get old pretty quick, and I am afraid I am going to burn out long before I even get to 1000. The bar is just way to high.
I don’t think the T3 ascended skins were ever intended to entice new or casual players, but to reward dedicated, high-ranked veterans. During a recent Guild Chat, McKenna herself said that “it was supposed to be the prestige reward for WvW” for players with “crazy high ranks.”
I think some people in this thread just need to accept that these rewards are not meant for them and were never designed with them in mind. For everyone else, the T1 and T2 skins are easily obtainable with minimal long-term investment.
Don’t listen to the whining, ANet! The 2k requirement is reasonable and reflects the commitment of those who stuck with WvW during its bleakest years. Most of us are happy to have a prestigious, long-term goal to aim for finally!

Pursuing the shinies is most of what motivates me to play the game. I am not a big fan of raids, but I want the armor so I have worked my way most of the way through that. That’s why I have a problem with this level requirement, it’s seemingly unreachable for most of the population.

While I agree with your statement in general, I do hope that you can also appreciate that not everyone’s circumstances led to earning similar ranks for similar amounts of time invested. During one of the bleakest times that you mentioned, a few months after HOT was released and before the server linkings, activity on the least populated servers, thanks to people transferring up to T1/T2 servers, led to very little ranks gained for those of us still left on those low tier servers. Were we still single handedly protecting SMC from a zerg of 5 enemies? You bet! But we will not see any reward from Anet for those really sparse times even though we had more dedication than those that joined the T1 k-trains.

That is not answering the question. That statement is made on the presumption that people have prior knowledge that it was 2k and thus using 2k as reference to demand it to lower to 1k. Then, using alternative timeline to argue that if it is 1k, people will not complain. Anyway, using alternative timeline for argument is silly in the first place. To use alternative timeline to argue things is also good to say that one already run out of sensible arguments.

I gurantee you that had June 6th rolled around, and the rank requirement been originally set at 1k or 1.5k, the few of you praising the 2k rank requirement wouldn’t have lifted a single finger to argue that it should be higher.
Oh we’re doing mind reading now huh, let me give it a try.
I guarentee you that had June 6th rolled around and the rank requirement was 1k, you lot would still complain that it was to high and demand it lowered.
Your assuming that everyone on here wants the armor for free. When I first logged in and saw the armor I got excited and was looking forward to wvwing to get it. When I saw it was 2K I felt deflated because that’s a ridiculous amount of time to spend in a game mode, up to 3X the amount of any other comparable reward in game. I instantly though that 1K for tons of reasons above was still a lot but was reasonable and attainable in a realistic time frame (1 year for r 1000 as opposed to 2 years for r 2000).

You forget hat while WvW had no rewards, everyother gamemode did hell Players wanting legendary armor had almost 2 years to prepare for getting legendary armor as soon as it was released… you had more than 2 years time to get rank 2000 before T3 armor was released to get it when it was released.

Your realize that by full clearing raids each week you could craft 3 full sets of legendary armor faster then you could go from rank 0-2000 with no boosters.
The only people that seem to have a problem with this are the pvers, becuse they want it now so they can leave and go back to pve. Well, newsflash pvers: This isnt a reward for YOU! This is a reward for the dedicated WvW players. You have plenty of crap already in PvE that you can mindlessly grind with no effort to your hearts content. You wont die without this stuff. If you want it that badly, put in the same work that all the dedicated wvw players have. This is OUR reward that we deserve after so many years of neglect from Anet. I personally hope they increase the requirement for it. Or possibly add a requirement where you need a certain amount of kills while outmanned so you actually have to roam in small groups and learn how to win fights against larger groups.

This sounds very entitled, you are excluding new players from obtaining this, because the grind is unreasonable and unrealistic. There is no reward in this game that is “not for someone” the point of the rewards is to encourage players to pursue a game mode not be put off by the daunting grind which dissuades most players. Saying its your reward over others is selfish. Saying that others need to learn how to play is insulting and has nothing to do with the sheer amount of grind involved in getting r 2000. The only reason u don’t care is because you happen to have r 2000 already and you already admit that you don’t care about whether or not this is an egregious grind for others starting out because you already have it.
Shrugging off r 1000 and acting like its nothing is ridiculous, it takes a whole year to reach this rank. If that’s not commitment to wvw then what is? What imaginary number do you suggest? Why not just make it r10000 and have it take years? At what point is it ridiculous?

For anyone that plays wvw exclusively it is not at all too much, its in fact very low. I’m in favor of upping it to 4k even though im only at 2k. so my rank has nothing to do with it, i still think its easy to get. If i actually zerged, i probably would be at 4k by now, but i just roam and flip camps. You pvers want an easier way to get wvw rewards? Fine lets make an easy way for wvw players that dont want to do pve to get legendary armor. The huge requirement is unfair for players that are new to pve, we shouldn’t have to grind for that long in pve to get legendary armor. Those of us that have only played wvw for the past 5 years have no way of ever getting legendary armor as it is now, lower the requirement for that. Put in a reward track in wvw so we can get legendary insights just from playing wvw. Do that, THEN and only then can you talk about lowering requirements for a WVW exclusive reward to make it easier for pvers. Have to make it fair both ways, you pvers want easier wvw rewards, we deserve easier pve rewards.

Your saying that you can’t get legendary armor, just go do raids. You’ll be greeted with a gentle grind of only 4-6 hrs a week and 3-6 months and you’ll have a full set. In comparison wvw r 2000 takes 2 years – 4 hrs a day every day.
It’s not my fault that wvw doesn’t add legendary armor, that is a separate issue, one which I agree with you on. If they are going to leave t3 armor at rank 2000 it’s insulting that it’s not legendary.
A simple solution to this would be to lower the rank req of t3 armor to r 1000 and then add in t4 armor at r 2000. T4 armor should require t3 armor, more materials, be legendary, and look the same as t3.
Either that or give all wvwers an exclusive 1 time item/s for having r 2000 right now and be done with it. Then lower t3 to r 1000 to make the grind more reasonable. That way wvwers get something unique and others don’t have to pursue an unreasonable grind to the point at which they become disuaded.

Just go do raids he says. Yeh, find a group that’s willing to take someone thats barely ever set foot in pve before then have to do incredibly boring pve content with said group on whatever their schedule is, Not to mention the fact i’ll have to grind in pve a ton more before that to get armor for a build that pvers use. Compared to being able to just go into wvw by yourself, run around and flip a few camps. With boosters on you can get 10+ ranks per night. You’re lying saying it would take 2 years. I dont know where you pvers came up with this number, it will most certainly not take 2 years if i can run around solo getting 10 ranks in a few hours with a booster on. If you ran in a group, i’m sure you could get alot more than that. The wvw rewards are infinitely more accessible to pvers than pve rewards are to wvw players. When this thing started, I was only around rank 2200. Im rank 2750 now just from solo roaming flipping camps now that im actually trying. So this 2 years to rank up is pure absolute BS and a complete lie fabricated by people that dont want to put in the work and want it handed to them.

This topic is unfortunate. Truly. Imo, it has run it’s course because it fails to get anywhere. ._.
All that has happened is constant bickering to continually (and I suspect intentionally in some regards) to be effectively bumped.
If we just go by ticket cost (an already time gate material), and pretend everyone caps each week at 175 (which they don,‘t lol). It will take 2 months to get a single set of T2 Skirmish Armor. Then another 4 months to get a single set of T3 Skirmish Armor (the one OP wants). So, half a year to get it. That’s ignoring the 2000 rank requirement. IS THAT REASONABLE TO EVERYONE? Idk, seems fine to me assuming the above happens (which it might not to newer players).
Let me clarify. WvW wants/needs new people. The real problem is this:
How do we make WvW feel like it’s not a grind? Well, gee, we’d have to pay attention to game play at that point!
Lowering rank requirements is a band aid solution, but I don’t care at this point. It will still take half a year or more for new players to even get if the requirement is removed. THAT IS ONLY IF TICKET ACQUISITION ISN’T CHANGED (E.g. weekly timegates, pips, and pip bonuses).
If I had to choose a band-aid solution. I’d propose doubling PIP’s so it doesn’t take a part time job to cap tickets each week (similar to raids for Magnetite shards…). This reduces the feeling of “the grind.” Still will take half a year to accumulate tickets, so the next barrier is the “rank requirement.” Just drop it, again, still takes half a year or more regardless due to the ticket time gate I keep repeating here.
MASSIVE CAVEAT IS MASSIVE If it was legendary armor then keep it at 2000 as people somewhat agree on that.
Bitter blabbing:
Overall the system is a needless mess in regards to PIPs. It still functions as the reward track...that they could have just introduced tickets to with the same weekly cap. So great...we have two reward tracks on top of each other for even more UI clutter? Super. So a lot of time was wasted on rewards when it could have been spent on game play changes? Or am I being too harsh? Idk. Anal retention is a real thing.

rewards are not the reason that wvw was hemorrhaging players. Rewards only bring in pvers that get in the way, complain, and rally enemies until they get their rewards then go back to pve. WvW was losing players because of terrible balance. Handing out rewards to pvers isnt going to maintain numbers in wvw, it will just make it more unpleasant for those of us that play because we enjoy the mode. The way to get and maintain true wvw players is by separating balance from pve and finally nerfing all the broken cancerous crap that has made combat less and less fun since hot came out. Remove dire, trailblazer, perplexity runes. Revert stab and condi changes for wvw only. Nerf all the passive carry traits in the elite specs. Do that and you can guarantee most of the wvw players that left would come back in droves.

Fun fact you don’t need to spend any tickets what so ever to get T1 you get those for free……. so all that tickets are needed for are T2 and T3.
And I believe the T3 should stay at 2k and I only have 336 WvW rank, I ain’t even mad

Thanks bebe, it was a clerical error. Everything I was discussing referred to T2 and T3.

The avg rank gain per hour with no boosters is around 1 rank per hour (most players don’t have boosters), your looking at standing around, scouting, losing zerg vs zerg, building siege to cap something only be driven off by defenders, all of these are time consuming and result in no wxp gain and yet all are extremely common events in wvw. Sometimes I play for 1 1/2 hours and don’t gain a single rank.
If you play 4 hrs a day everyday for a year you’ll be about 1 1/2 the way to rank 2000. Compound that with days u don’t play (remember u have to play everyday) or days u don’t play 4 hrs. Your looking at about 1 1/2 to 2 years for rank 2000.
Now compare that to any other reward in game in relation to time spent and you can begin to see why most think it’s unreasonable.
